    Get PDF
This project is sensitivity study of environmental forces on two jacket offshore structure. The main objective of the study is to study the sensitivity of the offshore platforms due to variations in wave, wind, current, earthquake and etc. As a result, several researches have been initiated. This final year project (Thesis) aims to investigate the sensitivity of jacket structures to environmental loadings. In order to perform the research, a real-life jacket structure will be selected and modelled using SACS software package. The sensitivity of jacket structure to variation in design loads will be investigated by performing analysis on main members of this model. For the first semester, sensitivity studies of wave, wind and current have been carried out. Meanwhile, sensitivity studies of earthquake due to the jacket structure can be analyzed. Toward verifying the analysis outcomes and better understanding of the way in which offshore structures react to environmental forces, the sensitivity study of the whole TPDP-A (TOPAZ) platform has been analysed and discussed. Therefore, three (3) different arrangements have been modelled in order to compare with each other arrangements. For this project, environmental forces such as wave played a major influenced in modelling and designing the platform. Designing of the platform should consider the cost and reliability of the model platform. Herewith, capital cost (CAPEX) estimate can be decreased by designing the most suitable jacket platform. Therefore, environmental forces can affect the design of the offshore platform and the author hope that this sensitivity study report of environmental loadings will be a good guideline as compared to the other researchers

This study evaluates the drag reduction strategy of suction and blowing on idealize automotive vehicle,Ahmed Body. Optimization approach is adapted in order to analyse the effect of slot location, momentumcoefficient and slot angle on the vehicle which experiencing drag. Despite all the efforts that have been done toreduce the Ahmed body drag using various active flow control system, most of the drag reduction were only lessthan 15%. A 25° Ahmed body with build in co-flow jet is modelled using a CAD software. The flow around theAhmed body is simulated at Reynolds number based on length Re = 4.29 × 10 6 . The governing equation were solveusing an open source software package, which has been validated against experimental data. Pressure Implicit withSplitting of Operator (PISO) algorithm is applied to solve the equation. The outcome of the simulation are variesdepending on the variables. Some show a decrease in drag while there are also that actually increase the drag of thesystem. This are caused by the suction and blowing slots that effect the surrounding air flow whether it is reducingor increasing the wake size downstream of the body. The result shows the momentum coefficient and location ofboth suction and blowing jet played an important role of manipulating the flow around the body and reducing thedrag. The velocity contours indicated that the key to drag reduction is by using 40 m/s jet velocity, placement ofsuction and blowing away from each other. &nbsp

Education in Malaysia is on-going efforts towards further developing the potential of individuals in a holistic and integrated manner, so as to produce individuals who are intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physically balanced and harmonic, based on a firm belief in and devotion to God. Such an effort is designed to produce Malaysian citizens who are knowledgeable and competent, who possess high moral standards and who are responsible and capable of achieving high level of personal well-being as well as being able to contribute to the harmony and betterment of the family, the society and the nation at large. Effective teachers are repeatedly listed as fair, democratic, respectful, caring, consistent and good listeners. They are stimulating, creative and confident. They know the students both academically and personally. They have knowledge of what they teach and model strategies of good instruction. However, the quality of teachers in our country is being questioned. The requirements to be a teacher are not standardized. Moreover, there are some of the remark made with regards to our teachers are not very flattering, they have included being "very poor in communication, disinterested in teaching and look down to their peers as well as being of poor quality because the new recruits are that of graduates who were not able to seek employment elsewhere." Over the last 5-8 years, many colleagues have been converted to universities in the country in a bid to improve the "quality of education" and increase the number of degree graduates. What the conversion has managed to do is to successfully increase the number of degree graduates but without being able to significantly improve the quality of education. Hence we are getting diploma graduates masked as degree holders

Teaching is one of the most challenging and one of the most important jobs in our society. Teachers play the role of producing knowledgeable students with good personality. Quality of a teacher is the most important school-related factor influencing student achievement. In order to solve the problems of shortage of teachers, government had recruited many teachers with different qualification. Government should make sure that the teachers meet the minimum requirement before letting them to enter the education field. We should not only focus on the quantity and neglect the quality of the teachers. Qualities of teachers should be measured from five categories which had stated in the National Education Philosophy- Physical, emotion, spiritual, intellectual and social. Physically healthy, high emotional intelligence, high spirituality, high intellectual and good social skills are the criteria of a quality teacher. Test should be conducted based on these aspects, such as IQ test for intellectual and EQ test for emotion, to determine the quality of a teacher. Only those who achieve good results in all these aspects are considered as a quality teacher. Better pay as well as promotion should be given to them

This study is done through observation of the teaching and learning process in classrooms involving 183 Primary School Teachers and 241 Rural Secondary School Teachers. The main objectives of the study are to; (1) measure teachers' teaching status in Science and Mathematics subjects, (2) evaluate students potential in mastering the contents or in Science and Mathematics achievement, and to (3) determine the status of Computer Technology usage cum the teaching support materials in Science and Mathematics subjects. A total of 4410 primary school students and 4946 secondary school students are involved in the study by sitting for two types of Standard Tests for the primary schools, i.e. the Science and Mathematics while in the secondary students' case, 5 types of Standard Tests are implemented, i.e. Mixed Science, Modern Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Additional Mathematics. The primary schools are categorized in 7 types of schools, while the secondary schools on the other hand are categorized in 6 types of schools. The results of the study shows that 42.5 percent of primary school teachers and 50.8 percent of secondary school teachers failed in the English Language Proficiency Level Evaluation. This situation is critical as it directly affects the pedagogy and teaching efficiency using English as the teaching medium. The teachers teaching observation status through the researchers shows that the beginning of teacher's teaching is average (min=5.1), interaction between teachers and students are also average (min=5.2), interaction between students and teachers are poor (min=3.8), Computer Technology usage is at average level (min=5.7) and the English Language within teachers are average (min=5.5). Generally, the teachers' teaching status is poor (min=4.9;sp=1.8) and the level of Computer Technology usage as teaching support materials are at average level (min=5.7;sp=1.7). The results of the study shows that the PPSMI teachers possess average competency (min=5.3). The effectiveness in the teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics mainly relies on the teachers' command in the English language. Students in urban schools produced better achievement results compared to the students in rural schools based on 12 tested subjects tested, whereby students in rural schools are left behind in 10 subjects (except in Physics 1 and Chemistry 1) with the average mark difference of between 3.3 to 19.7. Through the whole study, students in secondary schools and primary schools in rural areas are behind in PPSMI

The purpose of this research was to explore a systematic pattern for selecting quality tools and techniques in industrial revolution 4.0 particularly in smart manufacturing context. This study asked, “What are the appropriate tools and techniques concerning circumstances of quality dimensions and smart manufacturing?” To answer this question, this research developed a diagnostic matrix by developing the outcome matrix for selecting appropriate quality tools and techniques. This matrix is intended to help non-expert users and industrial practitioner to select appropriate sets of quality tools and techniques for solving different quality problems. By conducting an analysis, the researcher uncovered homogeneous patterns of enough quality case studies, which ultimately provided the basis for selecting appropriate groups of quality tools and techniques in different circumstances. Multiple case study and in-depth literature review were employed as the research design approach. Two key data collection methods (qualitative methods) were used: Firstly, primary data from face-to-face interview with Toyo Memory Technology and Intel Malaysia and secondly, secondary data from previous study. Accordingly, this review on the previous study allows the researcher to establish the theoretical framework. This review coupled with the case study analysis led to the identification on the real implementation of quality tools and techniques in the industries. Thus, the researcher gained the information on how the industries select the quality tools and techniques to manage quality performance in the organization and the researcher examined the association and prevalence of different quality tools and techniques and the quality dimensions in context of smart manufacturing component. The study developed the clustering-based matrix of quality tools and techniques for smart manufacturing. After developing and verifying the developed matrix, the researcher discussed their strengths and limitations as well as their roles for selecting the appropriate quality tools and techniques in the context of smart manufacturing industries. The finding of this study is a clustering-based matrix for selecting appropriate quality tools and techniques in smart manufacturing that has been successfully developed. The proposed matrix applies quality management dimensions and smart manufacturing component to facilitate waste elimination, defect reduction and improving productivity in smart manufacturing that can be used as a basis for many future investigations in the field of quality management and industrial revolution 4.0

Malaysia is a rapidly growing developing country since independence in 1957, from a rural economy to an export-based manufacturing economy. In 2017, 54% of rivers found polluted due to anthropogenic activities. Pengkalan Chepa River Basin (PCRB) is located in a developing area in Kota Bharu district. This study was to determine the water quality status at PCRB based on Water Quality Index (WQI) and heavy metal concentration in river water. Water samples were collected from 11 stations along the river and analyzed using YSI 556 MPS for in-situ test and laboratories analyzed for ex-situ test. Meanwhile, heavy metal concentrations were analyzed using AAS. Water sampling was carried out starting from November 2018 until Jun 2019, covering wet and dry seasons. The finding shows total median value for water quality parameters; DO (2.72 mg/L), BOD (6.42 mg/L), COD (33.5 mg/L), NH3-N (1.02 mg/L), TSS (27 mg/L) and pH (6.97). According to WQI, PCRB was classified under Class III for both seasons and considered as slightly polluted. Concentration of heavy metals in water followed the order, Fe > Cr > Zn > Cu > Cd. Almost all the heavy metals were found within the permitted level by the National Drinking Water Quality Standard (NDWQS) except for Cd. Kruskal Walis test shows a significant difference between parameters (DO, BOD, COD, NH3-N and pH) and sampling locations (ρ < 0.05). Based on this study, it can be concluded that the water quality of PCRB is polluted based on DO, BOD, COD, NH3-N and Cd aspects
