Importance of the Public Service in Achieving the UN SDGs

    Get PDF
Public service is the engine of effective governance delivery in the world economy; governments across the world cannot function well without the enabling structures of public administration to deliver on their mandate as set out mostly in (political) manifestos, while also making sure the core mandate for meeting citizens’ basic welfare needs are made available through an efficient market system. The operation of such a market system must enable entities or agents to act in the best interest of delivering high services, which would have already been set as dictated through regulation of the legal system – this should also facilitate the presence of information symmetry for agents to operate (Jackson and Jabbie, 2019; Winston, 2006; Weiner and Vining, 2004)

The rank reversal problem in multi-criteria decision making : a literature review

    Get PDF
Despite the importance of multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques for constructing effective decision models, there are many criticisms due to the occurrence of a problem called rank reversal. Nevertheless, there is a lack of a systematic literature review on this important subject which involves different methods. This study reviews the pertinent literature on rank reversal, based on 130 related articles published from 1980 to 2015 in international journals, which were gathered and analyzed according to the following perspectives: multicriteria technique, year and journal in which the papers were published, co-authorship network, rank reversal types, and research goal. Thus our survey provides recommendations for future research, besides useful information and knowledge regarding rank reversal in the MCDM field

An analytic evaluation of microcomputer educational OR/MS Software

This paper evaluates, using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), six recent OR/MS software for microcomputers. Two methods were used to aggregate the individual responses and close agreement was found between individual ratings, as well as between methods. The overall ranking of the six software packages was not practically affected by changes in the importance assigned to the various criteria. Guidelines are provided to select the appropriate software, depending upon specific requirements of the user.software evaluation microcomputers OR/MS education Analytic Hierarchy Process

Transportation Management and Decision Support Systems within the Supply Chain Management Framework

    No full text
International audienceWith technology and globalization, supply chain expanded and therefore supporting software is required in order to ensure prompt decisions are appropriately made. The emphasis of this paper is on the transportation management system (TPS) that supports the decision making process within the supply chain management framework. Our hypothesis focuses on the routing and mapping module within TPS. To support the hypothesis, questionnaires were distributed to the managers of small scale businesses in Al-Shuwaikh commercial district in Kuwait and the results obtained helped rank the importance of four carefully selected modules embraced by transportation management systems. A methodical regression analysis approach was used to substantiate the findings as elucidated in the study presented here
