A diffusion Monte Carlo study of small para-Hydrogen clusters
Ground state energies and chemical potentials of parahydrogen clusters are
calculated from 3 to 40 molecules using the diffusion Monte Carlo technique
with two different pH2-pH2 interactions. This calculation improves a previous
one by the inclusion of three-body correlations in the importance sampling, by
the time step adjustement and by a better estimation of the statistical errors.
Apart from the cluster with 13 molecules, no other magic clusters are
predicted, in contrast with path integral Monte Carlo results
Importance of Compton scattering to radiation spectra of isolated neutron stars
Model atmospheres of isolated neutron stars with low magnetic field are
calculated with Compton scattering taking into account. Models with effective
temperatures 1, 3 and 5 MK, with two values of surface gravity log(g)g = 13.9
and 14.3), and different chemical compositions are calculated. Radiation
spectra computed with Compton scattering are softer than the computed with
Thomson scattering at high energies (E > 5 keV) for hot (T_eff > 1 MK)
atmospheres with hydrogen-helium composition. Compton scattering is more
significant to hydrogen models with low surface gravity. The emergent spectra
of the hottest (T_eff > 3 MK) model atmospheres can be described by diluted
blackbody spectra with hardness factors ~ 1.6 - 1.9. Compton scattering is less

Luminosity Function of High-Mass X-ray Binaries and Anisotropy in the Distribution of Active Galactic Nuclei toward the Large Magellanic Cloud
In 2003-2012, the INTEGRAL observatory has performed long-term observations
of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). At present, this is one of the deepest
hard X-ray (20-60 keV) surveys of extragalactic fields in which more than 20
sources of different natures have been detected. We present the results of a
statistical analysis of the population of high-mass X-ray binaries in the LMC
and active galactic nuclei (AGNs) observed in its direction. The hard X-ray
luminosity function of high-mass X-ray binaries is shown to be described by a
power law with a slope alpha~1.8, that in agreement with the luminosity
function measurements both in the LMC itself, but made in the soft X-ray energy
band, and in other galaxies. At the same time, the number of detected AGNs
toward the LMC turns out to be considerably smaller than the number of AGNs
registered in other directions, in particular, toward the source 3C 273. The
latter confirms the previously made assumption that the distribution of matter

Fast Transition between High-soft and Low-soft States in GRS 1915+105: Evidence for a Critically Viscous Accretion Flow
We present the results of a detailed analysis of RXTE observations of class
which show an unusual state transition between high-soft and low-soft
states in the microquasar GRS 1915+105. Out of about 600 pointed RXTE
observations, the source was found to exhibit such state transition only on 16
occasions. An examination of the RXTE/ASM data in conjunction with the pointed
observations reveals that these events appeared as a series of quasi-regular
dips in two stretches of long duration (about 20 days during each occasions)
when hard X-ray and radio flux were very low. The X-ray light curve and
color-color diagram of the source during these observations are found to be
different from any reported so far. The duration of these dips is found to be
of the order of a few tens of seconds with a repetition time of a few hundred
seconds. The transition between these dips and non-dips which differ in
intensity by a factor of ~ 3.5, is observed to be very fast (~ a few seconds).
It is observed that the low-frequency narrow QPOs are absent in the power
density spectrum (PDS) of the dip and non-dip regions of class and the
PDS is a power law in 0.1 - 10 Hz frequency range. There is a remarkable
similarity in the spectral and timing properties of the source during the dip
and non-dip regions in these set of observations. These properties of the
source are distinctly different from those seen in the observations of other
classes. This indicates that the basic accretion disk structure during both dip
and non-dip regions of class is similar, but differ only in intensity.
To explain these observations, we invoke a model in which the viscosity is very

Quantum Rotation of HCN and DCN in Helium-4
We present calculations of rotational absorption spectra of the molecules HCN
and DCN in superfluid helium-4, using a combination of the Diffusion Monte
Carlo method for ground state properties and an analytic many-body method
(Correlated Basis Function theory) for the excited states. Our results agree
with the experimentally determined effective moment of inertia which has been
obtained from the spectral transition. The correlated basis function
analysis shows that, unlike heavy rotors such as OCS, the J=2 and higher
rotational excitations of HCN and DCN have high enough energy to strongly
couple to rotons, leading to large shifts of the lines and accordingly to
anomalous large spectroscopic distortion constants, to the emergence of
roton-maxon bands, and to secondary peaks in the absorption spectra for J=2 and
