    Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has rapidly spread across the world. Inactivating the virus in saliva and the oral cavity represents a reasonable approach to prevent human-to-human transmission because the virus is easily transmitted through oral routes by dispersed saliva. Persimmon-derived tannin is a condensed type of tannin that has strong antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. In this study, we investigated the antiviral effects of persimmon-derived tannin against SARS-CoV-2 in both in vitro and in vivo models. We found that persimmon-derived tannin suppressed SARS-CoV-2 titers measured by plaque assay in vitro in a dose- and time-dependent manner. We then created a Syrian hamster model by inoculating SARS-CoV-2 into hamsters' mouths. Oral administration of persimmon-derived tannin dissolved in carboxymethyl cellulose before virus inoculation dramatically reduced the severity of pneumonia with lower virus titers compared with a control group inoculated with carboxymethyl cellulose alone. In addition, pre-administration of tannin to uninfected hamsters reduced hamster-to-hamster transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from a cohoused, infected donor cage mate. These data suggest that oral administration of persimmon-derived tannin may help reduce the severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection and transmission of the virus.博士(医学)・甲第817号・令和4年3月15日© 2021.     Computer simulation of coercivity improvement due to microstructural refinement

    The effect of the presence of a non-magnetic phase at multi-junctions of Nd2Fe14B grains on the demagnetization process of Nd-Fe-B magnets was investigated by micromagnetic simulations, while varying the size of the non-magnetic phase and the Nd2Fe14B grains. While the demagnetizing field created by the non-magnetic phase assisted the nucleation of a reverse domain, its effect was only significant when its size exceeded a critical value. This critical size effect can be explained by a change in the spatial distribution of the demagnetizing field. In addition, the calculations indicated that microstructural refinement would also increase the coercivity. This increase in coercivity could also be attributed to a change in the spatial distribution of the demagnetizing field due to the presence of a non-magnetic phase. Changes in the spatial distribution of the demagnetizing field due to such a non-magnetic phase could represent a mechanism by which microstructural refinement leads to increased coercivity

    As for the physically handicapped person due to spastic type cerebral palsy, the difference of detraining period was verified for the impact on the lower extremity muscle strength. The obtained results are as follows. 1.The knee joint muscular strength was significantly enhanced by the detraining of three months. 2.The hip joint muscular strength was not significantly enhanced by the detraining of three months. 3.The muscular strength of the knee joint and the hip joint was weakened by the detraining of six months. From these results, it is suggested that the detraining period may effect on the lower limb muscle strength. It is also suggested that the effect of detraining may depend on muscle contraction style. These findings are not necessarily corresponded to the results of the previous study that were conducted to healthy people as a subject of the research. Therefore, further study is expected

    As targeting the physically handicapped person who can have their own walking, the effect of long−term isokinetic muscle exercise training was verified from the point of view of the aging, and the following results were obtained. 1) In the muscle strength of ankle joint, its value of 50 years old person were significantly higher, compared with the value of 40 years old person. 2) In the muscle strength of knee joint, its value of 40 years old person were significantly higher, compared with the value of 50 years old person. 3) No significant differences were observed in the numerical values between the 40s and 50s old person. From the above result, the following possibility was also shown that the training effect for the handicap improvement is higher than the muscle weakness associated with aging in the person having the cerebral palsy. However, the further verification is needed about the relation between the handicap improvement by the muscle training and the muscle weakness associated with aging

    Coincidence analysis to search for inspiraling compact binaries using TAMA300 and LISM data

    Japanese laser interferometric gravitational wave detectors, TAMA300 and LISM, performed a coincident observation during 2001. We perform a coincidence analysis to search for inspiraling compact binaries. The length of data used for the coincidence analysis is 275 hours when both TAMA300 and LISM detectors are operated simultaneously. TAMA300 and LISM data are analyzed by matched filtering, and candidates for gravitational wave events are obtained. If there is a true gravitational wave signal, it should appear in both data of detectors with consistent waveforms characterized by masses of stars, amplitude of the signal, the coalescence time and so on. We introduce a set of coincidence conditions of the parameters, and search for coincident events. This procedure reduces the number of fake events considerably, by a factor 104\sim 10^{-4} compared with the number of fake events in single detector analysis. We find that the number of events after imposing the coincidence conditions is consistent with the number of accidental coincidences produced purely by noise. We thus find no evidence of gravitational wave signals. We obtain an upper limit of 0.046 /hours (CL =90= 90 %) to the Galactic event rate within 1kpc from the Earth. The method used in this paper can be applied straightforwardly to the case of coincidence observations with more than two detectors with arbitrary arm directions.Comment: 28 pages, 17 figures, Replaced with the version to be published in Physical Review

    Results of the search for inspiraling compact star binaries from TAMA300's observation in 2000-2004

    We analyze the data of TAMA300 detector to search for gravitational waves from inspiraling compact star binaries with masses of the component stars in the range 1-3Msolar. In this analysis, 2705 hours of data, taken during the years 2000-2004, are used for the event search. We combine the results of different observation runs, and obtained a single upper limit on the rate of the coalescence of compact binaries in our Galaxy of 20 per year at a 90% confidence level.     DECi-hertz Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory (DECIGO) is the future Japanese space gravitational wave antenna. DECIGO is expected to open a new window of observation for gravitational wave astronomy especially between 0.1 Hz and 10 Hz, revealing various mysteries of the universe such as dark energy, formation mechanism of supermassive black holes, and inflation of the universe. The pre-conceptual design of DECIGO consists of three drag-free spacecraft, whose relative displacements are measured by a differential Fabry– Perot Michelson interferometer. We plan to launch two missions, DECIGO pathfinder and pre- DECIGO first and finally DECIGO in 2024

    DECIGO pathfinder (DPF) is a milestone satellite mission for DECIGO (DECi-hertz Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory) which is a future space gravitational wave antenna. DECIGO is expected to provide us fruitful insights into the universe, in particular about dark energy, a formation mechanism of supermassive black holes, and the inflation of the universe. Since DECIGO will be an extremely large mission which will formed by three drag-free spacecraft with 1000m separation, it is significant to gain the technical feasibility of DECIGO before its planned launch in 2024. Thus, we are planning to launch two milestone missions: DPF and pre-DECIGO. The conceptual design and current status of the first milestone mission, DPF, are reviewed in this article
