    Get PDF
Resilience plays an important role in entrepreneurship; however, an in-depth study of the factors that affect the resilience of Asnaf entrepreneurs is unknown. This paper aims to fill this knowledge gap by delving deeper into the challenges that affect the resilience of asnaf entrepreneurs thus hindering their business expansion. The study also observed the ability of asnaf entrepreneurs to deal with economic shocks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In-depth interviews conducted with 2 executive officers of the entrepreneur development sector and 10 LZS enforcers who supervise 901 asnaf entrepreneurs throughout Selangor present an overview of the impediments that hinder the business progress of asnaf entrepreneurs. From 901 asnaf entrepreneurs, a total of 25 asnaf entrepreneurs were selected based on the criteria that have been outlined, namely those who run food-based businesses and have undergone the LZS micro-entrepreneurship program for more than 6 months. Constraints experienced are analyzed. Three essential themes that enlighten challenges in fostering entrepreneurial resilience emerged, namely; the role of family members, non-tech savvy and fear of failure. These themes are discussed based on the methodology used and the findings of previous studies. The findings provide an insight that is useful for LZS in designing entrepreneur development instruments and organizing periodic entrepreneurship modules

Online system for automatic tropical wood recognition

    Get PDF
There are more than 3000 wood species in tropical rainforests, each with their own unique wood anatomy that can be observed using naked eyes aided with a hand glass magnifier for species identification process. However, the number of certified personnel that have this acquired skills are limited due to lenghty training time. To overcome this problem, Center for Artificial Intelligence & Robotics (CAIRO) has developed an automatic wood recognition system known as KenalKayu that can recognize tropical wood species in less than a second, eliminating laborious manual human inspection which is exposed to human error and biasedness. KenalKayu integrates image acquisition, feature extraction, classifier and machine vision hardware such as camera, interfaces, PC and lighting. Grey level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) is used for feature extraction. The features are trained in a back-propagation neural network (BPNN) for classification. This paper focusses more on the database development and the online testing of the wood recognition system. The accuracy of the online system is tested on different image quality such as image taken in low light condition, medium light condition or high light condition

Grief & personal growth: reflection from Quran, hadith and modern medicine

    Get PDF
Grief has been defined as the reaction towards loss with typical symptoms including sadness, anger, guilt, yearning, regret, loneliness, numbness and positive feelings related to individual’s personal experience. Grief has been postulated to occur when a safe and secure bond has been threatened. This loss can be an opportunity for personal growth. It is growth that emerges from difficult life events. It may occur during or after the process of grieving. We reviewed three cases related to grief and personal growth. Three cases were described where grief and personal growth were observed. Each case occurred in different situations. These different situations were; an adult child and caregiver of patient with dementia, a widow who loss her husband from drowning, and a cancer survivor who experienced psychological and spiritual growth from the loss and adverse life event. As a comparison three stories taken from the Quran and Hadith were analyzed to reflect on the three case discussions. The Quran and Hadith have mentioned stories of personal growth emerging from difficulties. The completeness of Islamic creed has never neglected the spiritual component in treating medical, physical and psychological illnesses. Islamic spirituality facilitates and enhances personal growth in the aftermath of any physical and psychological tribulations. It is important to merge the spiritual aspects of grief from Islamic perspective, as to aid those suffering from grief to attain personal and spiritual growth

Grief is defined as ‘the internal experience of a person to the loss of something loved and valued’. It is a normal and expected reaction to loss. While anticipatory grief is defined as ‘an emotional response that is experienced before a true loss’, a concept focusing on that a person might experience grief when the loss of a close loved one was anticipated, but had not yet occurred. The history of Abu Bakr r.a. was reviewed especially from the period of a few months before and recently after the death of the prophet s.a.w. It was noted that he appeared strong while others were down grieving upon the news of the prophet s.a.w.’s death. It was also noted that Abu Bakr r.a. has been grieving when he anticipated that the prophet was going to die. Literatures on anticipatory grief were reviewed. Evidence are conflicting on the role of anticipatory grief. Factors that lead to these differences will be reviewed. The protective factors in Abu Bakr r.a. that helped maintain his composure after the death of prophet Muhammad s.a.w. and later led him to be pledged as the first caliph of the Muslim nation will be discussed

Background Obesity has become a great public health concern and prevent!ive measures need to be done. Objective The objective of this research is to determine the prevalence ofobesity and their knowledge, attitude and practices (KAP) towards a healthy lifestyle among the residents in Kampung Banyok, Kampung Kerto and Kampung Langup. Methods A cross-sectional study was done among 126 randomly selected villagers aged 18 years and above from the three selected villages. They were interviewed based on a questionnaire and their body mass index (BMI) was calculated. Results It was found that more than half of the respondents are obese. Among the respondents, for the healthy lifestyle component, the level of good KAP is 69.2%, 46.8% and 60.3% respectively. As for obesity component, the level of good KAP is 60.3%, 54% and 54.8% respectively. Among the obese respondents, the level of knowledge and attitude on healthy lifestyle and obesity is better. Obese respondents have better obesity preventive practice while the non-obese respondents have better practice on healthy lifestyle. The only significant correlation noted was between knowledge and practice on obesity albeit a negative one. Conclusion The level of knowledge and attitude and practice on healthy lifestyle among the obese respondents are encouraged but more effort in the preventive practice ofobesity shou1d be done to reduce the prevalence.

An automated tropical wood species recognition system known as KenalKayu has been developed by the Centre for Artificial Intelligence & Robotics (CAIRO) to identify the tropical wood species. The system works very well in offline mode with an accuracy rate of up to 98%. But when it comes to real-time testing, the accuracy rate dropped by about 62%, partly due to low image quality. The system was trained by using ideal quality of wood images that are stored in the database. However, during real-time testing, the quality of wood image captured might be degraded due to motion blur, out of focus and illumination. Therefore, it is challenging to perform accurate recognition via real-time approach. This research proposed an improved KenalKayu prototype by using You Only Look Once version 3 (YOLOv3) algorithm to detect and classify tropical wood species via real-time approach. 60 images from 10 tropical wood species have been trained while another 60 images have been captured and tested during real-time testing. The preliminary test shows promising results where the system is now able to classify tropical wood species in real-time mode with accuracy rate for both training set and testing set are 100%. The average accuracy rate for output probability generated by YOLOv3 is 95.63%
