    Tourism innovation policy: Implementation and outcomes

    The paper opens the “black box” of tourism innovation policy implementation through an analysis of the Spanish Programme of Innovative Business Groups that foster innovation through hybrid top-down bottom-up collaboration embedded in clusters. The focus is on three main issues: process of policy implementation, types of innovation that emerged, and the outcomes and barriers. The findings show the contradictions of this hybrid model of implementation with mixed outcomes of successful collaborations and abandoned trajectories. The Programme has stimulated the ‘propensity’ to innovate resulting in different types of innovation but has revealed the existence of mutually-reinforcing barriers. Some suggestions for future improvements of tourism innovation policies are offered including the importance of polycentricity in effective policy formulation and implementation.The research paper has been supported by the Spanish National R&D&I Plan 2008-2011 (CSO2011-26396).     Partitioning Schemes and Non-Integer Box Sizes for the Box-Counting Algorithm in Multifractal Analysis

    We compare different partitioning schemes for the box-counting algorithm in the multifractal analysis by computing the singularity spectrum and the distribution of the box probabilities. As model system we use the Anderson model of localization in two and three dimensions. We show that a partitioning scheme which includes unrestricted values of the box size and an average over all box origins leads to smaller error bounds than the standard method using only integer ratios of the linear system size and the box size which was found by Rodriguez et al. (Eur. Phys. J. B 67, 77-82 (2009)) to yield the most reliable results.Comment: 10 pages, 13 figure

    LkHαα 225 (V1318 Cyg) South in Outburst

This is an open access article distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution License, to view a copy of the license, see: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Magakian et al. called attention to the current bright state of LkHα 225 South, a well-known highly embedded,intermediate-mass young stellar object that over the past two decades has brightened visually from >20m to <13m.We present recent optical photometric monitoring showing colorless, nonsinusoidal, periodic brightnessoscillations occurring every 43 days with amplitude ∌0.7 mag. We also present new flux-calibrated optical andnear-infrared spectroscopy, which we model in terms of a Keplerian accretion disk, and high-dispersion spectrathat demonstrate similarity to some categories of “mixed-temperature” accretion-outburst objects. At bluewavelengths, LkHα 225 South has a pure absorption spectrum and is a good spectral match to the FU Ori starsV1515 Cyg and V1057 Cyg. At red optical and infrared wavelengths, however, the spectrum is more similar toGaia 19ajj, showing emission in TiO, CO, and metals. Sr II absorption indicates a low-surface-gravity atmosphere.There are also signatures of a strong wind/outflow. LkHα 225 South was moderately bright in the early 1950s aswell as in the late 1980s, with evidence for deep fades during intervening epochs. The body of evidence suggeststhat LkHα 225 South is another case of a source with episodically enhanced accretion that causes brightening byorders of magnitude, and development of a hot absorption spectrum and warm wind. It is similar to Gaia 19ajj, butalso reminiscent in its long brightening time and brightness oscillation near peak to the embedded sources L1634IRS7 and ESO Ha 99.Peer reviewe

    A new borosilicate glass with lower loss and permittivity than any commercial glass has been proposed in this contribution as a substrate or interposer for mm-wave and THz integrated electronics. The glass is composed of a microstructure enclosing high-purity boron rich areas and silicon rich areas.     400%/W second harmonic conversion efficiency in 14ÎŒm\mathrm{14 \mu m}-diameter gallium phosphide-on-oxide resonators

    Second harmonic conversion from 1550~nm to 775~nm with an efficiency of 400% W−1^{-1} is demonstrated in a gallium phosphide (GaP) on oxide integrated photonic platform. The platform consists of doubly-resonant, phase-matched ring resonators with quality factors Q∌104Q \sim 10^4, low mode volumes V∌30(λ/n)3V \sim 30 (\lambda/n)^3, and high nonlinear mode overlaps. Measurements and simulations indicate that conversion efficiencies can be increased by a factor of 20 by improving the waveguide-cavity coupling to achieve critical coupling in current devices.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figure
