    Ranking algorithms for XML should reflect the actual combined content and structure constraints of queries, while at the same time producing equal rankings for queries that are semantically equal. Ranking algorithms that produce different rankings for queries that are semantically equal are easily detected by tests on large databases: We call such algorithms not sound. We report the behavior of different approaches to ranking content-and-structure queries on pairs of queries for which we expect equal ranking results from the query semantics. We show that most of these approaches are not sound. Of the remaining approaches, only 3 adhere to the W3C XQuery Full-Text standard

    The Study of the Influence of Formulation and Process Variables on the properties of Simvastatin-Phospholipid Complex

    Objectives: The aim of the present study was to examine the influence of the formulation and process variables on the entrapment efficiency of simvastatin-phospholipid complex (SPC), prepared with a goal of improving the solubility and permeability of simvastatin. Method: The SPC was prepared using a solvent evaporation method. The influence of formulation and process variables on simvastatin entrapment was assessed using a central composite design. An additional SPC was prepared using the optimized variables from the developed quadratic model. This formulation was characterized for its physical-chemical properties. The functional attributes of the optimized SPC formulation were analyzed by apparent aqueous solubility analysis, in-vitro dissolution studies, dissolution efficiency analysis, and ex-vivo permeability studies. Results: The factors studied were found to significantly influence on the entrapment efficiency. The developed model was validated using the optimized levels of formulation and process variables. The physical-chemical characterization confirmed a formation of the complex. The optimized SPC demonstrated over 25-fold higher aqueous solubility of simvastatin, compared to that of pure simvastatin. The optimized SPC exhibited a significantly higher rate and extent of simvastatin dissolution (\u3e98%), compared to that of pure simvastatin (∼16%). The calculated dissolution efficiency was also found to be significantly higher for the SPC (∼54 %), compared to that of pure simvastatin (∼8%). Finally, the optimized SPC exhibited a significantly higher simvastatin permeability (\u3e78%), compared to that of pure simvastatin (∼11%). Implications: The present study shows that simvastatin-phospholipid complex can be a promising strategy for improving the delivery of simvastatin, and similar drugs with low aqueous solubility

    Uneven running: How does trunk-leaning affect the lower-limb joint mechanics and energetics?

    This study aimed to investigate the role of trunk posture in running locomotion. Twelve recreational runners ran in the laboratory across even and uneven ground surface (expected 10 cm drop-step) with three trunk-lean angles from the vertical (self-selected, ∼15°; anterior, ∼25°; posterior, ∼0°) while 3D kinematic and kinetic data were collected using a 3D motion-capture-system and two embedded force-plates. Two-way repeated measures ANOVAs (α = 0.05) compared lower-limb joint mechanics (angles, moments, energy absorption and generation) and ground-reaction-force parameters (braking and propulsive impulse) between Step (level and drop) and Posture conditions. The Step-by-Posture interaction revealed decreased hip energy generation, and greater peak knee extension moment in the drop-step during running with posterior versus anterior trunk-lean. Furthermore, energy absorption across hip and ankle nearly doubled in the drop-step across all running conditions. The Step main effect revealed that the knee and ankle energy absorption, ankle energy generation, ground-reaction-force, and braking impulse significantly increased in the drop-step. The Posture main effect revealed that, compared with a self-selected trunk-lean, the knee's energy absorption/generation, ankle's energy generation and the braking impulse were either retained or attenuated when leaning the trunk anteriorly. The opposite effects occurred with a posterior trunk-lean. In conclusion, while the pronounced mechanical ankle stress in drop-steps is marginally affected by posture, changing the trunk-lean reorganizes the load distribution across the knee and hip joints. Leaning the trunk anteriorly in running shifts loading from the knee to the hip not only in level running but also when coping with ground-level changes.Highlights Changing the trunk-lean when running reorganizes the load distribution across the knee and hip joints.Leaning the trunk anteriorly from a habitual trunk posture during running attenuates the mechanical stress on the knee, while the opposite effect occurs with a posterior trunk-lean, irrespective to the ground surface uniformity.The effect of posture on pronounced mechanical ankle stress in small perturbation height during running is marginal.Leaning the trunk anteriorly shifts loading from the knee to the hip not only in level running but also when coping with small perturbation height

The report reveals spectral analysis of Amravati region. We acquired satellite imagery to perform the classification using maximum like hood classifier. Analysis is performing in ERDAS to determine the spectral reflectance against the no of band. The analytical outcome of paper is representing the soil, water, vegetation index of the region

    Momentum transfer in a standing optical vortex

    A field superposition of singular beams incident on, and then reflected from a mirror has been investigated. It was demonstrated that the standing optical wave, which contains a vortex, possesses an orbital angle momentum where the energy flux circulates only in the azimuth direction of the beam. We show in this paper that the standing light wave containing the optical vortex transfers angular momentum to a substance located in the field of the vortex without moving the substance in the azimuth or radial directions. This property of the standing vortex present an opportunity to form the three-dimensional optical traps, gasdynamic and hydrodynamic vortices, in a localised volume by a direct transfer of the orbital angular momentum from the optical vortex.Comment: English has been corrected; a second address entered; Eq.(13) and (14) corrected. 11 pages, including 1 figur

    Unconventional magnetism in all-carbon nanofoam

    We report production of nanostructured carbon foam by a high-repetition-rate, high-power laser ablation of glassy carbon in Ar atmosphere. A combination of characterization techniques revealed that the system contains both sp2 and sp3 bonded carbon atoms. The material is a novel form of carbon in which graphite-like sheets fill space at very low density due to strong hyperbolic curvature, as proposed for ?schwarzite?. The foam exhibits ferromagnetic-like behaviour up to 90 K, with a narrow hysteresis curve and a high saturation magnetization. Such magnetic properties are very unusual for a carbon allotrope. Detailed analysis excludes impurities as the origin of the magnetic signal. We postulate that localized unpaired spins occur because of topological and bonding defects associated with the sheet curvature, and that these spins are stabilized due to the steric protection offered by the convoluted sheets.Comment: 14 pages, including 2 tables and 7 figs. The screening was limited to in vivo models only. The synthesized compounds were converted to their hydrochloride salts in order to make them water-soluble. These hydrochloride salts were used for the pharmacological testing purpose. The experiments were performed on Swiss albino mice (male) and the route of administration was intra peritoneal

    Under current South African law, in terms of Child Care Act 74 of 1983,1 consent for elective surgery, HIV testing and therapy can only be given by the biological mother, married father or legal guardian of a minor. Where the consent of a parent or legal guardian cannot be obtained, permission for a medical procedure must be sought from the Minister of Social Development if in the opinion of a medical practitioner the procedure is necessary, i.e. consent by proxy. While we can accept that the intention of the law is to protect the welfare of the child, we find that this prejudices those patients requiring consent via the social service department. This procedure has in the past often led to delays and/or cancellations of the intended surgery or institution of appropriate therapy. It is a protracted pathway and at times a frustrating endeavour
