    Efficacy of an alginate versus proton pump inhibitor in the symptomatic relief of gastroesophageal reflux symptoms in pregnant women

    Background: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is frequently seen during pregnancy with prevalence of 80%. Proton pump inhibitors (PPI) are the most effective drugs used in the treatment of reflux symptoms. Alginates are natural polysaccharide polymer which builds a non-systemic barrier against acid and food reflux in the oesophagus. Aims and objectives were to compare the efficacy of alginate versus PPIs in pregnant women, and to determine the time to onset of decrease in the pain intensity of alginate to PPIs. Methods: This is a prospective randomised study conducted in pregnant women with symptoms of heartburn comparing the efficacy of alginates to PPIs in Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences. After subjects have signed the consent, two sachets of 10 ml liquid preparation alginate were given to the alginate group while 40 mg intravenous pantoprazole to the PPI group. Results: Among 40 patients studied, 20 were given alginates and 20 were given PPIs. 7 presented in the 1st trimester and 33 in 2nd trimester. Onset of action is faster with alginates when compared to PPIs, it was 30 min to 1 hour in patients taking alginates and 6-12 hours in patients taking PPIs, duration of action was longer for PPIs than alginates, with alginates it’s observed that it attains 24-hour symptom free interval in shorter time when compared to PPIs. Conclusions: ¬Alginates to be used for rapid symptom relief in patients with acute symptoms as an induction agent, PPIs to be used for longer duration of action as maintenance.

    Neutrino processes in the K0K^0 condensed phase of color flavor locked quark matter

    We study weak interactions involving Goldstone bosons in the neutral kaon condensed phase of color flavor locked quark matter. We calculate the rates for the dominant processes that contribute to the neutrino mean free p ath and to neutrino production. A light K+K^+ state, with a mass m~K+(Δ/μ)(Δ/ms)(mdmu)\tilde{m}_{K^+} \propto (\Delta/\mu) (\Delta/m_s)(m_d-m_u), where μ\mu and Δ\Delta are the quark chemical potential and superconducting gap respectively, is shown to play an important role. We identify unique characteristics of weak interaction rates in this novel phase and discuss how they might influence neutrino emission in core collapse supernova and neutron stars.Comment: 21 pages, 4 figure

    Carrier induced ferromagnetism in concentrated and diluted local-moment systems

    For modeling the magnetic properties of concentrated and diluted magnetic semiconductors, we use the Kondo-lattice model. The magnetic phase diagram is derived by inspecting the static susceptibility of itinerant band electrons, which are exchange coupled to localized magnetic moments. It turns out that rather low band occupations favour a ferromagnetic ordering of the local moment systems due to an indirect coupling mediated by a spin polarization of the itinerant charge carriers. The disorder in diluted systems is treated by adding a CPA-type concept to the theory. For almost all moment concentrations x, ferromagnetism is possible, however, only for carrier concentrations n distinctly smaller than x. The charge carrier compensation in real magnetic semiconductors (in Ga_{1-x}Mn_{x}As by e.g. antisites) seems to be a necessary condition for getting carrier induced ferromagnetism.Comment: 9 pages (REVTeX), 6 figures, to be published in Phys.     The study of work environments is very important because it may differentiate between high and low performers among banks. However, there is large gap in studies on exploring the quality of work life in Andhra Pradesh. This study aims to explore the level of Quality of Work Life in the bank industry situated in the Rayalaseema region, Andhra Pradesh, India. It also examines the relationships between environmental factors and job satisfaction. The result reveals that the level of Quality of Work Life of the population is elevated. The bulk of employees have adequate confidence regarding their skills, their job characteristics, opportunity to participate in decision making and relationships. However, some of them complained about their wage levels. Further, the study finds a significant relationship between environmental factors and job satisfaction. This study contributes to the understanding of quality of work life and job satisfaction in a significant area in India, that is, among bank’s employees in Rayalaseema region, Andhra Prades

    A simple microprocessor-controlled pulsed NQR spectrometer system has been developed with the capability to acquire Zeeman perturbed spin echo envelope modulations (ZSEEM). The CPU of the system is based on the Intel Corporation 8085A microprocessor. The performance of the spectrometer is illustrated with the presentation of ZSEEM spectra of NaCIO₃ and KC1O₃

    Geochronology of Paleoproterozoic Augen Gneisses in the Western Gneiss Region, Norway: Evidence for Sveconorwegian Zircon Neocrystallization and Caledonian Zircon Deformation

    The Western Gneiss Region, Western Norway, consists of Palaeoproterozoic crust of Baltica ancestry (Baltican Basement), partly subducted to high- and ultrahigh-pressure (HP-UHP) conditions during the Scandian Orogeny between 415 and 395 Ma. The dominant felsic gneisses carry little evidence for the HP-UHP history, but were affected by amphibolite-facies reworking during exhumation. LA-ICPMS and SIMS zircon U-Pb data collected in augen gneiss samples constrain the magmatic and metamorphic geochronology in this crust. Five samples from the eclogite-bearing HP-UHP basement near Molde yield intrusion ages ranging from 1644 ±6 to 1594 ±10 Ma. Two samples of the structurally underlying eclogite-free basement yield ages of 1685 ±18 and 1644 ±13 Ma, and a sample from the infolded Middle Allochthon Risberget Nappe yields an equivalent age of 1676 ±18 Ma. Two samples of the eclogite-bearing basement contain low Th/U neocrystallized zircon with an age of 950 ±26 Ma. This zircon provides the northernmost direct evidence for at least amphibolite-facies Sveconorwegian metamorphism in unquestionable Baltica crust, close to the known “Sveconorwegian boundary” in the Western Gneiss Region.The Western Gneiss Region (1686-1594 Ma magmatism), the Eastern Segment of the Sveconorwegian Orogen (1795-1640 Ma magmatism), and the Idefjorden terrane hosting the type Gothian active margin magmatism (1659-1520 Ma) probably represent three distinct Proterozoic growth zones of Baltica into which Sveconorwegian reworking propagated. Samples of the eclogite-bearing basement lack Scandian neocrystallized zircon, but do show partial recrystallization of zircon. Paired CL and EBSD images indicate that zircon crystals underwent crystal-plastic deformation during the Scandian subduction-exhumation cycle. They illustrate a relationship between crystal-plastic deformation by dislocation creep, fading of oscillatory growth zoning and loss of radiogenic lead

    Speech recognition is a rapidly emerging technology in Human Computer Interaction HCI. It has many applications as we use it from search engines to the device control it serves many areas we interact every day from dawn to dusk. Along with the uses we have many limitations in speech processing such as Language barrier, Accent and Noise, so to implement the speech processing we have many challenges. To enable the advantages of this speech processing most of the leading software companies like Apple, Microsoft and Google are continuously evolving their speech enabled applications. The speech processing eases the physically challenged people's interaction with the devices and makes them productive. The Idea of the automatically driven cars is introduced by Google and Audi, but they are not acceptable in most of the cases because of lacking trust in current technology. Thus we here worked on the remote driven vehicle in a more secured method using the Mel Frequency cepstral Coefficient. The secure driving of the vehicle can be ensured by the remote driver. This technique is very rapid and more reliable for the speech detection thus the remote driver can use the MFCC and the video from the vehicle needed to be broadcasted to the remote driver that can be done an IP camera running on a data network. And the instructions can from the remote driver can be sent to the vehicle by an app created with python that connected to a micro controller. To minimize the limitations in the remote drive the vehicle must be enabled with automatic braking when obstacle approaches which can be done by the Ultrasonic sensors that do the distance estimation. The remote drivers usually have a very limited view of road they drive and they must get the precise edges of the road this can be achieved by processing the stream of images to calculate the edge in Matlab
