The Bicentennial Celebration of the Vincentians in America: An Exhibition at DePaul University\u27s John T. Richardson LIbrary, 2016

To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Congregation of the Mission\u27s work in the United States, DePaul University Library, with the assistance of DePaulâs Office of Mission and Values, presents The Bicentennial Celebration of the Vincentians in America: An Exhibition at the John T. Richardson Library. The exhibition will run from September 2016 through March 2017, and encompasses two separate installations.
The first, God as Compass, Rudder, and Pilot: the Missionary as a Pioneer, details the journey the Vincentian missionaries took, from its beginnings in Rome in 1815 to the company\u27s eventual settlement at St. Mary\u27s of the Barrens in the Missouri Territory in 1818. Its sister installation is Knowledge and Salvation: the Missionary as a Man of the Enlightenment, which explores books from the library of these first American Vincentians and the influence of the Enlightenment on the missionaries.
The exhibit includes books, correspondence, artifacts, and maps, and acknowledges the religious vocations and motivations of the Vincentian missionaries while contextualizing their place within the larger arena of American history.https://via.library.depaul.edu/vincentian_ebooks/1040/thumbnail.jp
Effectiveness evaluation of STOL transport operations
A short-takeoff and landing (STOL) systems simulation model has been developed and implemented in a computer code (known as STOL OPS) which permits evaluation of the operation of a STOL aircraft and its avionics in a commercial airline operating environment. STOL OPS concentrated on the avionics functions of navigation, guidance, control, communication, hazard aviodance, and systems management. External world factors influencing the operation of the STOL aircraft include each airport and its geometry, air traffic at each airport, air traffic control equipment and procedures, weather (including winds and visibility), and the flight path between each airport served by the route. The development of the STOL OPS program provides NASA a set of computer programs which can be used for detailed analysis of a STOL aircraft and its avionics and permit establishment of system requirements as a function of airline mission performance goals
Breaking the AMSP mould: the increasingly strange case of HETE J1900.1-2455
We present ongoing Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) monitoring observations
of the 377.3 Hz accretion-powered pulsar, HETE J1900.1-2455 Activity continues
in this system more than 3 years after discovery, at a mean luminosity of
4.4e36 erg/s (for d=5 kpc), although pulsations were present only within the
first 70 days. X-ray variability has increased each year, notably with a brief
interval of nondetection in 2007, during which the luminosity dropped to below
1e-3 of the mean level. A deep search of data from the intervals of
nondetection in 2005 revealed evidence for extremely weak pulsations at an
amplitude of 0.29% rms, a factor of ten less than the largest amplitude seen
early in the outburst.
X-ray burst activity continued through 2008, with bursts typically featuring
strong radius expansion. Spectral analysis of the most intense burst detected
by RXTE early in the outburst revealed unusual variations in the inferred
photospheric radius, as well as significant deviations from a blackbody. We

Incidence, outcomes, and risk factors of pleural effusion in patients receiving dasatinib therapy for Philadelphia chromosome-positive leukemia.
Dasatinib, a second-generation BCR-ABL1 tyrosine kinase inhibitor, is approved for the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia and Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia, both as first-line therapy and after imatinib intolerance or resistance. While generally well tolerated, dasatinib has been associated with a higher risk for pleural effusions. Frequency, risk factors, and outcomes associated with pleural effusion were assessed in two phase 3 trials (DASISION and 034/Dose-optimization) and a pooled population of 11 trials that evaluated patients with chronic myeloid leukemia and Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia treated with dasatinib (including DASISION and 034/Dose-optimization). In this largest assessment of patients across the dasatinib clinical trial program (N=2712), pleural effusion developed in 6-9% of patients at risk annually in DASISION, and in 5-15% of patients at risk annually in 034/Dose-optimization. With a minimum follow up of 5 and 7 years, drug-related pleural effusion occurred in 28% of patients in DASISION and in 33% of patients in 034/Dose-optimization, respectively. A significant risk factor identified for developing pleural effusion by a multivariate analysis was age. We found that overall responses to dasatinib, progression-free survival, and overall survival were similar in patients who developed pleural effusion and in patients who did not. clinicaltrials.gov identifier 00481247; 00123474
Age and Age-related Diseases: Role of Inflammation Triggers and Cytokines
Cytokine dysregulation is believed to play a key role in the remodeling of the immune system at older age, with evidence pointing to an inability to fine-control systemic inflammation, which seems to be a marker of unsuccessful aging. This reshaping of cytokine expression pattern, with a progressive tendency toward a pro-inflammatory phenotype has been called âinflamm-aging.â Despite research there is no clear understanding about the causes of âinflamm-agingâ that underpin most major age-related diseases, including atherosclerosis, diabetes, Alzheimerâs disease, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, and aging itself. While inflammation is part of the normal repair response for healing, and essential in keeping us safe from bacterial and viral infections and noxious environmental agents, not all inflammation is good. When inflammation becomes prolonged and persists, it can become damaging and destructive. Several common molecular pathways have been identified that are associated with both aging and low-grade inflammation. The age-related change in redox balance, the increase in age-related senescent cells, the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) and the decline in effective autophagy that can trigger the inflammasome, suggest that it may be possible to delay age-related diseases and aging itself by suppressing pro-inflammatory molecular mechanisms or improving the timely resolution of inflammation. Conversely there may be learning from molecular or genetic pathways from long-lived cohorts who exemplify good quality aging. Here, we will discuss some of the current ideas and highlight molecular pathways that appear to contribute to the immune imbalance and the cytokine dysregulation, which is associated with âinflammageingâ or parainflammation. Evidence of these findings will be drawn from research in cardiovascular disease, cancer, neurological inflammation and rheumatoid arthritis
Spectral line shape of resonant four-wave mixing induced by broad-bandwidth lasers
We present a theoretical and experimental study of the line shape of resonant four-wave mixing induced by broad-bandwidth laser radiation that revises the theory of Meacher, Smith, Ewart, and Cooper (MSEC) [Phys. Rev. A 46, 2718 (1992)]. We adopt the same method as MSEC but correct for an invalid integral used to average over the distribution of atomic velocities. The revised theory predicts a Voigt line shape composed of a homogeneous, Lorentzian component, defined by the collisional rate Î, and an inhomogeneous, Doppler component, which is a squared Gaussian. The width of the inhomogeneous component is reduced by a factor of â2 compared to the simple Doppler width predicted by MSEC. In the limit of dominant Doppler broadening, the width of the homogeneous component is predicted to be 4Î, whereas in the limit of dominant homogeneous broadening, the predicted width is 2Î. An experimental measurement is reported of the line shape of the four-wave-mixing signal using a broad-bandwidth, "modeless", laser resonant with the Q1 (6) line of the A2 ÎŁ - X2 Î (0,0) system of the hydroxyl radical. The measured widths of the Voigt components were found to be consistent with the predictions of the revised theory
