Meson Screening Mass in a Strongly Coupled Pion Superfluid
We calculate the meson screening mass in a pion superfluid in the framework
of Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The minimum of the attractive quark potential is
always located at the phase boundary of pion superfluid. Different from the
temperature and baryon density effect, the potential at finite isospin density
can not be efficiently suppressed and the matter is always in a strongly
coupled phase due to the Goldstone mode in the pion superfluid.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures(Accepted by European Physical Journal C
Charmed Exotics in Heavy Ion Collisions
Based on the color-spin interaction in diquarks, we argue that charmed
multiquark hadrons are likely to exist. Because of the appreciable number of
charm quarks produced in central nucleus-nucleus collisions at
ultrarelativistic energies, production of charmed multiquark hadrons is
expected to be enhanced in these collisions. Using both the quark coalescence
model and the statistical hadronization model, we estimate the yield of charmed
tetraquark meson and pentaquark baryon in heavy ion
collisions at RHIC and LHC. We further discuss the decay modes of these charmed
exotic hadrons in order to facilitate their detections in experiments
Gas Analysis and Monitoring Systems for the RPC Detector of CMS at LHC
The Resistive Plate Chambers (RPC) detector of the CMS experiment at the LHC
proton collider (CERN, Switzerland) will employ an online gas analysis and
monitoring system of the freon-based gas mixture used. We give an overview of
the CMS RPC gas system, describe the project parameters and first results on
gas-chromatograph analysis. Finally, we report on preliminary results for a set

Cumulant to Factorial Moment Ratio and Multiplicity Data
The ratio of cumulant to factorial moments of experimental multiplicity
distributions has been calculated for and interactions in a
wide range of energies. As a function of the rank it exhibits an initial steep
decrease and a series of oscillations around zero. Those features cannot be
reproduced by the Negative Binomial Distribution. A comparable behaviour is
instead predicted in high-energy perturbative QCD. The presence of a
qualitatively similar behaviour for different processes and in wide energy
intervals suggests speaking of an approximate scaling of the cumulant to

Quark Potential in a Quark-Meson Plasma
We investigate quark potential by considering meson exchanges in the two
flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model at finite temperature and density. There are
two kinds of oscillations in the chiral restoration phase, one is the Friedel
oscillation due to the sharp quark Fermi surface at high density, and the other
is the Yukawa oscillation driven by the complex meson poles at high
temperature. The quark-meson plasma is strongly coupled in the temperature
region with being the critical temperature of
chiral phase transition. The maximum coupling in this region is located at the

Shear viscosity of the Quark-Gluon Plasma from a virial expansion
We calculate the shear viscosity in the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) phase
within a virial expansion approach with particular interest in the ratio of
to the entropy density , i.e. . The virial expansion approach
allows us to include the interactions between the partons in the deconfined
phase and to evaluate the corrections to a single-particle partition function.
In the latter approach we start with an effective interaction with parameters
fixed to reproduce thermodynamical quantities of QCD such as energy and/or
entropy density. We also directly extract the effective coupling \ga_{\rm V}
for the determination of . Our numerical results give a ratio
at the critical temperature , which is very
close to the theoretical bound of . Furthermore, for temperatures
the ratio is in the range of the present
experimental estimates at RHIC. When combining our results for
in the deconfined phase with those from chiral perturbation theory or
the resonance gas model in the confined phase we observe a pronounced minimum

A new approach in modeling the response of RPC detectors
The response of RPC detectors is highly sensitive to environmental variables.
A novel approach is presented to model the response of RPC detectors in a
variety of experimental conditions. The algorithm, based on Artificial Neural
Networks, has been developed and tested on the CMS RPC gas gain monitoring
system during commissioning
Search for and Using Genetic Programming Event Selection
We apply a genetic programming technique to search for the double Cabibbo
suppressed decays and .
We normalize these decays to their Cabibbo favored partners and find
\Lambda_c^+ \to p K^+ \pi^-\Lambda_c^+ \to p K^-
\pi^+ and D_s^+ \to K^+ K^+
\pi^-D_s^+ \to K^+ K^- \pi^+ where
the first errors are statistical and the second are systematic. Expressed as
90% confidence levels (CL), we find and respectively.
This is the first successful use of genetic programming in a high energy

Measurement of the D+ and Ds+ decays into K+K-K+
We present the first clear observation of the doubly Cabibbo suppressed decay
D+ --> K-K+K+ and the first observation of the singly Cabibbo suppressed decay
Ds+ --> K-K+K+. These signals have been obtained by analyzing the high
statistics sample of photoproduced charm particles of the FOCUS(E831)
experiment at Fermilab. We measure the following relative branching ratios:
Gamma(D+ --> K-K+K+)/Gamma(D+ --> K-pi+pi+) = (9.49 +/- 2.17(statistical) +/-
0.22(systematic))x10^-4 and Gamma(Ds+ --> K-K+K+)/Gamma(Ds+ --> K-K+pi+) =
(8.95 +/- 2.12(statistical) +2.24(syst.) -2.31(syst.))x10^-3.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figure
A Non-parametric Approach to the D+ to K*0bar mu+ nu Form Factors
Using a large sample of D+ -> K- pi+ mu+ nu decays collected by the FOCUS
photoproduction experiment at Fermilab, we present the first measurements of
the helicity basis form factors free from the assumption of spectroscopic pole
dominance. We also present the first information on the form factor that
controls the s-wave interference discussed in a previous paper by the FOCUS
collaboration. We find reasonable agreement with the usual assumption of
