Bayesian Analysis for Random Coefficient Regression Models Using Noninformative Priors
AbstractWe apply Bayesian approach, through noninformative priors, to analyze a Random Coefficient Regression (RCR) model. The Fisher information matrix, the Jeffreys prior and reference priors are derived for this model. Then, we prove that the corresponding posteriors are proper when the number of full rank design matrices are greater than or equal to twice the number of regression coefficient parameters plus 1 and that the posterior means for all parameters exist if one more additional full rank design matrix is available. A hybrid Markov chain sampling scheme is developed for computing the Bayesian estimators for parameters of interest. A small-scale simulation study is conducted for comparing the performance of different noninformative priors. A real data example is also provided and the data are analyzed by a non-Bayesian method as well as Bayesian methods with noninformative priors
Stable vortex and dipole vector solitons in a saturable nonlinear medium
We study both analytically and numerically the existence, uniqueness, and
stability of vortex and dipole vector solitons in a saturable nonlinear medium
in (2+1) dimensions. We construct perturbation series expansions for the vortex
and dipole vector solitons near the bifurcation point where the vortex and
dipole components are small. We show that both solutions uniquely bifurcate
from the same bifurcation point. We also prove that both vortex and dipole
vector solitons are linearly stable in the neighborhood of the bifurcation
point. Far from the bifurcation point, the family of vortex solitons becomes
linearly unstable via oscillatory instabilities, while the family of dipole
solitons remains stable in the entire domain of existence. In addition, we show
that an unstable vortex soliton breaks up either into a rotating dipole soliton
or into two rotating fundamental solitons.Comment: To appear in Phys. Rev.
A Gravitational Aharonov-Bohm Effect, and its Connection to Parametric Oscillators and Gravitational Radiation
A thought experiment is proposed to demonstrate the existence of a
gravitational, vector Aharonov-Bohm effect. A connection is made between the
gravitational, vector Aharonov-Bohm effect and the principle of local gauge
invariance for nonrelativistic quantum matter interacting with weak
gravitational fields. The compensating vector fields that are necessitated by
this local gauge principle are shown to be incorporated by the DeWitt minimal
coupling rule. The nonrelativistic Hamiltonian for weak, time-independent
fields interacting with quantum matter is then extended to time-dependent
fields, and applied to problem of the interaction of radiation with
macroscopically coherent quantum systems, including the problem of
gravitational radiation interacting with superconductors. But first we examine
the interaction of EM radiation with superconductors in a parametric oscillator
consisting of a superconducting wire placed at the center of a high Q
superconducting cavity driven by pump microwaves. We find that the threshold
for parametric oscillation for EM microwave generation is much lower for the
separated configuration than the unseparated one, which then leads to an
observable dynamical Casimir effect. We speculate that a separated parametric
oscillator for generating coherent GR microwaves could also be built.Comment: 25 pages, 5 figures, YA80 conference (Chapman University, 2012
The Spectra of Heterotic Standard Model Vacua
A formalism for determining the massless spectrum of a class of realistic
heterotic string vacua is presented. These vacua, which consist of SU(5)
holomorphic bundles on torus-fibered Calabi-Yau threefolds with fundamental
group Z_2, lead to low energy theories with standard model gauge group (SU(3)_C
x SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y)/Z_6 and three families of quarks and leptons. A methodology
for determining the sheaf cohomology of these bundles and the representation of
Z_2 on each cohomology group is given. Combining these results with the action
of a Z_2 Wilson line, we compute, tabulate and discuss the massless spectrum.Comment: 41+1pp, 2 fig
Direct Measurements of the Branching Fractions for and and Determinations of the Form Factors and
The absolute branching fractions for the decays and
are determined using singly
tagged sample from the data collected around 3.773 GeV with the
BES-II detector at the BEPC. In the system recoiling against the singly tagged
meson, events for and events for decays are observed. Those yield
the absolute branching fractions to be and . The
vector form factors are determined to be
and . The ratio of the two form
factors is measured to be .Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure
Measurements of the observed cross sections for exclusive light hadrons containing at , 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV
By analyzing the data sets of 17.3, 6.5 and 1.0 pb taken,
respectively, at , 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV with the BES-II
detector at the BEPC collider, we measure the observed cross sections for
, , ,
and at the three energy
points. Based on these cross sections we set the upper limits on the observed
cross sections and the branching fractions for decay into these
final states at 90% C.L..Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure
Partial wave analysis of J/\psi \to \gamma \phi \phi
Using events collected in the BESII detector, the
radiative decay is
studied. The invariant mass distribution exhibits a near-threshold
enhancement that peaks around 2.24 GeV/.
A partial wave analysis shows that the structure is dominated by a
state () with a mass of
GeV/ and a width of GeV/. The
product branching fraction is: .Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures. corrected proof for journa
Search for the Lepton Flavor Violation Processes and
The lepton flavor violation processes and are
searched for using a sample of 5.8 events collected with
the BESII detector. Zero and one candidate events, consistent with the
estimated background, are observed in and
decays, respectively. Upper limits on the branching ratios are determined to be
and at the 90% confidence level (C.L.).Comment: 9 pages, 2 figure

The branching ratios and Angular distributions for J/psi decays to Lambda
Lambdabar and Sigma0 Sigma0bar are measured using BESII 58 million J/psi.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figure
The pole in
Using a sample of 58 million events recorded in the BESII detector,
the decay is studied. There are conspicuous
and signals. At low mass, a large
broad peak due to the is observed, and its pole position is determined
to be - MeV from the mean of six analyses.
The errors are dominated by the systematic errors.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures, submitted to PL
