A COMPARISON BETWEEN TLS AND UAV TECHNOLOGIES FOR HISTORICAL INVESTIGATION
Abstract. The architectural and sculptural value of the investigated Cultural Heritage has suggested a variety of possible approaches ranging from the traditional modus operandi to the implementation of innovative technology. The conducted research implemented digital and automatic photogrammetry software using Structure from Motion or SFM. These techniques which involve the convergence of different disciplines, such as Computer Vision and photogrammetry seek to generate 3D models, that is the mathematical representation of the investigated 3D objects. The integration of UAS, photogrammetry and TLS develops 3D models able to provide more detailed information. The main purpose of the present research is to test the potentialities offered by the new survey and 3D processing systems in order to carry out historical analyses and investigations in closed environments and for small scale architecture. Starting from the acquired data, the 3D models of the altars allow a 3D comparison between the works object of study and Pozzo's treatise, also allowing speculation about their possible relations, providing extraordinary outcomes from the point of view of survey integrated methodologies and from the point of view of historical and geometric interpretation.</p
Airway inflammation in nonasthmatic amateur runners
Elite athletes show a high prevalence of symptoms and signs of asthma, but no study has assessed the acute effects of endurance exercise on airway cells in nonasthmatic athletes. We measured exhaled nitric oxide (NO) and collected samples of induced sputum after 3% NaCl aerosol administration for 20 min in nonasthmatic middle-aged amateur runners after the Fourth Palermo International Marathon and 6–9 wk later (habitual training period) at baseline. After the marathon, exhaled NO ( n = 9 subjects) was higher [27 ± 9 parts/billion (ppb)] than at baseline (12 ± 4 ppb; P < 0.0005). Polymorphonuclear neutrophil (PMN) counts in induced sputum were much higher in runners (91.2 ± 3.6% of total cells postmarathon and 78.7 ± 9.1% at baseline) than in sedentary control subjects (9.9 ± 5.9%; P < 0.001). Expression of L-selectin and CD11b/CD18 in sputum PMNs was lower after the race than at baseline and inversely related to the amount of exhaled NO ( r = −0.66 and −0.69, respectively; P < 0.05). Our data indicate that sputum PMNs are increased in nonasthmatic runners both after a marathon and at baseline and suggest that NO may modulate exercise-associated inflammatory airway changes
Asteroseismology of Procyon A with SARG at TNG
We present high precision radial velocity measurements on the F5 IV star
alpha CMi obtained by the SARG spectrograph at TNG (Telescopio Nazionale
Galileo) exploiting the iodine cell technique. The time series of about 950
spectra of Procyon A taken during 6 observation nights are affected by an
individual error of 1.3 m/s. Thanks to the iodine cell technique, the
spectrograph contribution to the Doppler shift measurement error is quite
negligible and our error is dominated by the photon statistics Brown et al
1994. An excess of power between 0.5 and 1.5 mHz, detected also by Martic et
al. 2004 has been found. We determined a large separation frequency Delta nu0 =
56\pm 2 microHz, consistent with both theoretical estimates Chaboyer et al.

Modeling Operator Behavior in the Safety Analysis of Collaborative Robotic Applications
Human-Robot Collaboration is increasingly prominent in peo-
ple's lives and in the industrial domain, for example in manufacturing
applications. The close proximity and frequent physical contacts between
humans and robots in such applications make guaranteeing suitable levels
of safety for human operators of the utmost importance. Formal veri-
cation techniques can help in this regard through the exhaustive explo-
ration of system models, which can identify unwanted situations early in
the development process. This work extends our SAFER-HRC method-
ology with a rich non-deterministic formal model of operator behaviors,
which captures the hazardous situations resulting from human errors.

Speaker-independent emotion recognition exploiting a psychologically-inspired binary cascade classification schema
In this paper, a psychologically-inspired binary cascade classification schema is proposed for speech emotion recognition. Performance is enhanced because commonly confused pairs of emotions are distinguishable from one another. Extracted features are related to statistics of pitch, formants, and energy contours, as well as spectrum, cepstrum, perceptual and temporal features, autocorrelation, MPEG-7 descriptors, Fujisakis model parameters, voice quality, jitter, and shimmer. Selected features are fed as input to K nearest neighborhood classifier and to support vector machines. Two kernels are tested for the latter: Linear and Gaussian radial basis function. The recently proposed speaker-independent experimental protocol is tested on the Berlin emotional speech database for each gender separately. The best emotion recognition accuracy, achieved by support vector machines with linear kernel, equals 87.7%, outperforming state-of-the-art approaches. Statistical analysis is first carried out with respect to the classifiers error rates and then to evaluate the information expressed by the classifiers confusion matrices. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2011
Personalization for unobtrusive service interaction
Increasingly, mobile devices play a key role in the communication between users and the services embedded in their environment. With ever greater number of services added to our surroundings, there is a need to personalize services according to the user needs and environmental context avoiding service behavior from becoming overwhelming. In order to prevent this information overload, we present a method for the development of mobile services that can be personalized in terms of obtrusiveness (the degree in which each service intrudes the user's mind) according to the user needs and preferences. That is, services can be developed to provide their functionality at different obtrusiveness levels depending on the user by minimizing the duplication of efforts. On the one hand, we provide mechanisms for describing the obtrusiveness degree required for a service. On the other hand, we make use of Feature Modeling techniques in order to define the obtrusiveness level adaptation in a declarative manner. Predictors of CD34+ cell mobilization and collection in adult men with germ cell tumors: implications for the salvage treatment strategy
BACKGROUND:
High-dose chemotherapy with tandem or triple carboplatin and etoposide course is currently the first curative choice for relapsing GCT. The collection of an adequate amount of hematopoietic (CD34(+)) stem cells is a priority.
PATIENTS AND METHODS:
We analyzed data of patients who underwent HDCT at 2 referral institutions. Chemotherapy followed by myeloid growth factors was applied in all cases. Uni- and multivariable models were used to evaluate the association between 2 prespecified variables and mobilization parameters. Analyses included only the first mobilizing course of chemotherapy and mobilization failures.
RESULTS:
A total of 116 consecutive patients underwent a mobilization attempt from December 1995 to November 2012. Mobilizing regimens included cyclophosphamide (CTX) 7 gr/m(2) (n = 39), cisplatin, etoposide, and ifosfamide (PEI) (n = 42), paclitaxel, cisplatin, and gemcitabine (TPG) (n = 11), and mixed regimens (n = 24). Thirty-seven percent were treated in first-line, 50% (n = 58) in second-line, 9.5% (n = 11) and 3.4% (n = 4) in third- and fourth-line settings, respectively. Six patients did not undergo HDCT because they were poor mobilizers, 2 in first- and second-line (1.9%), and 4 beyond the second-line (26.7%). In the multivariable model, third-line or later setting was associated with a lower CD34(+) cell peak/μL (P = .028) and a lower total CD34(+)/kg collected (P = .008). The latter was also influenced by the type of mobilizing regimen (P < .001).
CONCLUSION:
A decline in significant mobilization parameters was found, primarily depending on the pretreatment load. Results lend support to the role of CD34(+) cell mobilization in the therapeutic algorithm of relapsing GCT, for whom multiple HDCT courses are still an option, and potentially a cure
