    The Improvement of Students' Activities and Understanding in Chemistry through Contextual Teaching. This study was conducted in order to improve the students' activities as well as the learning outcomes in the subject of thermochemistry through contextual teaching. The subjects of the study were 21 students of Grade XI IPA 2 of Madrasah Aliyah Alhaerat Palu. Observations as well as reflection were carried out during the treatment process. Questionnaire was distributed after the treatment was given. The study revealed that contextual teaching was successful in improving the students' activities and learning outcomes

    Model Integrated Problem Solving Based Learning Pada Perkuliahan Dasar-dasar Kimia Analitik

    : Integrated Problem Solving Based Learning Model on Foundation of Analytical Chemistry. This study was conducted to know the effects of Integrated Problem Solving Based Learning (IPSBL) model on problem solving skills and cognitive ability of pre-service teachers. The subjects of the study were 41 pre- service teachers, 21 in the experimental group and 20 in the control group. The data were collected through a test on problem solving skills, a test on cognitive ability, and a questionnaire on the students'opinions on the use of IPSBL model. The quantitative data were analyzed using t-test and one-way ANOVA, and the qualitative data were analyzed by counting the percentage. The results of the study show that the implementation of IPSBL model increased the problem solving skills and cognitive ability of the pre-service teachers . The model was also responded positively by the research subjects

    Guava's bark contains tannin compound that can be used as an adsorbent. The purpose of thisstudy was to determine the optimum conditions of the adsorption of iron by the bark and its maximumabsorption capacity. The study was conducted by mass variation of bark for iron metal adsorption.The measurement of iron concentration which was not absorbed by the bark was conducted byatomic absorption spectrophotometer. The results showed that the adsorbent mass of 2.5 grams canabsorb 1.93mg/g with percent absorbance of 48.34%, and the maximum absorption capacity of ironlost at 4.98mg/g

    : Quantitative analysis subjects requires knowledge and problem solving skills of pre-service chemistry teachers. The aims of this study was to develop and to analyze problem solving skills in quantitative analysis of preservice teachers through Problem Solving Based Lecture with Group Investigation (PSBL-GI). The study was quasy experiment conducted to pre-service teachers of year 2010 in semester three of Chemistry Education programs in one of LPTK in Central Sulawesi that is one experiment class (PBPS-IK) and one control class (concept and practice approach). Data were then collected on using a test problem solving skills with a reliability coefficient of 0.84. The collected data were analyzed qualitatively and tested the difference between N-gain of problem solving PSBL-GI class with control class at level of significance is 5%. The results showed PSBL-GI can develop pre-service teachers\u27 problem solving skill with categories medium (0,56).The ability to solve problem of pre-service teacher of PSBL-GI class have is greater than the control class. Problem solving skill of high group is better than medium and low groups. The highest N-gain of indicator of problem solving skill is representation (0.82) and the lowest is identification (0,28) while the highest sub subject of quantitative analysis is neutralization titration (0,67) and the lowest is complexometry titration (0,34)

    The learning method applied on chemistry study nowadays is still one-way; students act as listeners and are not active on learning processes in the classroom. The goal to be achieved on this research was to determine the effect of cooperative leraning model make a match type on compounds and chemical equations naming topic towards the students' learning outcome and to their critical thinking skill of X grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Dampelas consisting of 6 classes. 2 classes were taken as samples by purposive sampling; 28 students of class XE as control class and 28 students of class XF as the experimental class. The research instruments used were tests and observation sheet. Descriptive and inferential statistics analysis methods were used asthe data analysis technique. Statistics analysis of right side t-test was used for testing the research data. The average score of learning outcome achieved as the research result were 78.96 of experimental class and 60.92 of control class and the average score of critical thinking skill were 74.75 for the experimental class and 65.75 for the control class. The research result showed that the use of cooperative learning model make a match type on compounds and chemical equation naming topic made the students' learning outcome and crictical thinking skill better

    The used and storage of cooking oil that has not been done properly can lead to exessive water content in the oil. Thus, this can degrade the quality of the oil and fried foods, and turn to interfere health. The aim of this study was to determine teh quality of used cooking oil after adsorbed by mengkudu or noni (morinda citrifolia L.) powder. The quality of the oil was determined based on the free fatty acids content, peroxide numbers, moisture and dirt content before and after adsorbased by using the titration method in determining the FFA content and peroxide number, while the water content and impurities levels were determined by using a closed oven method. The quality standard of good oil is based on the Indonesian National Standard (SNI), i.e. the maximum free fatty acid content of 0.3%, the maximum peroxide numbers of 2 meq.O2/kg, the maximum water contens of 0.3%, and the impurities level of 1.0%. The result indicated that the quality of used cooking oil before adsorption was not in accordance with the quality standards of oil. The quality of oil improved after adsorption with 5 grams, 10 grams and 15 grams of noni powder of 100 ml waste cooking oil, and the best absorbent numbers, moisture content, and dirt with 15 grams were 0.2%, 2 meq.O2/kg, 0.09%. This is showed that the quality of the used cooking oil to be better after the addition of noni powder served as an adsorbent

    Penggunaan Multimedia pada Materi Klasifikasi Zat di Kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Palu

    This study was conducted to seek the use of instructional media multimedia-based to supportintegrated science learning especially on chemical materials. This instructional media was used to assistteachers in teaching of chemical materials to improve learning outcomes of students in the class VIIat the State Junior High School 1 Palu. The population in this study were 528 students class VII atthe State Junior High School 1 Palu. The sample in this study was 32 students of class VII M as anexperimental class and 33 students of class VII K as the control class. The results of the data analysisobtained an average value (χ1) of experiment class was 84.96 with a standard deviation of 6.21 and theaverage value (χ2)of control class was 82.16 with a standard deviation of 9.69. The results of hypothetictesting was tc = 4.137 and tt = 1.67 with a significance level α = 0.05. Based on the results it can beconcluded that the use of multimedia in the material of substance classification gave positive effect onthe learning outcomes of students in the Class VII at the State Junior High School 1 Palu
