diferencias contextuales y temporales guardan muchos paralelismos.
In this paper the two most important social movements of the Old Regime, i.e., the
Communities of Castile and the English Revolution are analyzed following a
comparative method. The aim is to show that both conflicts can be inserted into a wider
European dynamics and that despite their contextual and temporal differences, many
parallels can be found . The focus is placed on the interpretations that insert both the
Communities of Castile and the English Revolution into modernity by presenting a
range of pioneering features such as national sovereignty or mixed monarchy, that
make indeed them different from the medieval intellectual model. The most recent
interpretations on the Communities of Castile and the English Revolution have been
gathered, showing that advancement has been made in this line of research and that
certain preconceptions, which were believed to be unquestionable, have been
challenged
Micrococcal Nuclease Does Not Substantially Bias Nucleosome Mapping
We have mapped sequence-directed nucleosome positioning on genomic DNA molecules using high-throughput sequencing. Chromatins, prepared by reconstitution with either chicken or frog histones, were separately digested to mononucleosomes using either micrococcal nuclease (MNase) or caspase-activated DNase (CAD). Both enzymes preferentially cleave internucleosomal (linker) DNA, although they do so by markedly different mechanisms. MNase has hitherto been very widely used to map nucleosomes, although concerns have been raised over its potential to introduce bias. Having identified the locations and quantified the strength of both the chicken or frog histone octamer binding sites on each DNA, the results obtained with the two enzymes were compared using a variety of criteria. Both enzymes displayed sequence specificity in their preferred cleavage sites, although the nature of this selectivity was distinct for the two enzymes. In addition, nucleosomes produced by CAD nuclease are 8–10 bp longer than those produced with MNase, with the CAD cleavage sites tending to be 4–5 bp further out from the nucleosomal dyad than the corresponding MNase cleavage sites. Despite these notable differences in cleavage behaviour, the two nucleases identified essentially equivalent patterns of nucleosome positioning sites on each of the DNAs tested, an observation that was independent of the histone type. These results indicate that biases in nucleosome positioning data collected using MNase are, under our conditions, not significant
The water supercooled regime as described by four common water models
The temperature scale of simple water models in general does not coincide
with the natural one. Therefore, in order to make a meaningful evaluation of
different water models a temperature rescaling is necessary. In this paper we
introduce a rescaling using the melting temperature and the temperature
corresponding to the maximum of the heat capacity to evaluate four common water
models (TIP4P-Ew, TIP4P-2005, TIP5P-Ew and Six-Sites) in the supercooled
regime. Although all the models show the same general qualitative behavior, the
TIP5P-Ew appears as the best representation of the supercooled regime when the
rescaled temperature is used. We also analyze, using thermodynamic arguments,
the critical nucleus size for ice growth. Finally, we speculate on the possible
reasons why atomistic models do not usually crystalize while the coarse grained
mW model do crystallize.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figure
Feasibility of subcritical fluid technology to stabilize archaeological copper alloy artifacts.
A PhD involving collaboration between Clemson University
(USA) and Cardiff University (UK) is investigating the potential of
subcritical fluid technology in the treatment of heritage copper
alloys at the Warren Lasch Conservation Center. The work reported
here examines the impact of temperature, pH and time on the
chloride bearing compounds nantokite (CuCl), clinoatacamite1
(Cu2
(OH)3
Cl) and atacamite (Cu2
(OH)3
Cl), of which the latter two
are also referred to as trihydroxychlorides. These compounds were
individually compressed into pellets, using calcium carbonate
(CaCO3
) as a binder where necessary and subjected to continuous
fixed flow of sodium carbonate (Na2
CO3
) 0.01 percent (w/w) (pHÂ 10)
and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3
) 0.00193 percent (w/w) (pH 8)
solutions in subcritical conditions. Differing sample sets were run
at 130°C, 180°C and 230°C for 1 and 5 hours. Eluate was sampled for
chloride content at selected values of time. X-Ray diffraction and
micro-Raman spectroscopy were used to investigate compound
transformations that occurred during treatments. Nantokite and
atacamite released significant amounts of chloride in all treatment
environments. Varying degrees of transformation occurred for both
compounds depending on parameters. Nantokite transformed to
cuprite (Cu2
O) and copper trihydroxychloride (Cu2
(OH)3
Cl) while
atacamite transformed to tenorite (CuO). Significant amounts of
chloride detected in the eluate from clinoatacamite treatments
could be assigned to residual sodium chloride (NaCl) from its
synthesis as no compositional changes were detected, suggesting
differing behavior from its polymorph atacamite. Hydrolysis of
nantokite in high relative humidity produces atacamite and
clinoatacamite, which physically disrupts patinas and alters
the object aesthetics. Conversion to unreactive compounds in
subcritical conditions offers the basis for developing a predictive
evidence-based treatment option for the heritage sector
In this manuscript the figure of Leonardo Torriani is analyzed from a novel perspective. It is intended to relate Torriani and his views of the Canary Islands within a context of spheres and relations of power. The images of cities were conceived as propaganda elements to magnify the power of the monarchs. In this way, it seeks to relate the images of other important artists such as Wyngaerde, Texeira, Hoefnagel and image painters in the Liber Chronicarum with those representations that tended to highlight the magnificence of cities, and that constituted, ultimately, the mirror of the greatness of the monarchs. Leonardo Torriani's images are inserted not only within the limits of topography, but also within the limits of praise, since after all they are reconstructions like the images of America made by conquerors. Considering the bibliography used and the comparative study with other images, we can highlight the images of Leonardo Torriani within the circle of reconstructions that attended to highlight the character of the city community, in short, the civitasMáster en Historia Moderna: MonarquÃa de España, Siglos XVI-XVII
