Sokoto Coventry fingerprint dataset
This paper presents the Sokoto Coventry Fingerprint Dataset (SOCOFing), a biometric fingerprint database designed for academic research purposes. SOCOFing is made up of 6,000 fingerprint images from 600 African subjects. SOCOFing contains unique attributes such as labels for gender, hand and finger name as well as synthetically altered versions with three different levels of alteration for obliteration, central rotation, and z-cut. The dataset is freely available for noncommercial research purposes at: https://www.kaggle.com/ruizgara/socofin
Method of reconstruction of complete defects of ala nasalis
The article presents the results of using an original combined method of plasty of total defects of ala nasalis in 12 patients during the years 2009 to
2011.The study included 12 patients with complete tumor infiltration of ala nasalis, limited only to this functional - aesthetics subunit of the face . All
patients in the study are men and in all cases the tumor affected the entire thickness of ala nasalis. Morphological structure of the tumor: eight cases (66.7%) - basal cell carcinoma, 3 cases (25.0%) – squamous cell carcinoma, one case (8.3%) - malignant tumor of skin annexes.Surgical treatment
consisted of tumor excision within security margins. Defect plasty was performed on the same stage, using our method - the nasal vestibule skin and
mucosal defect was closed using a free skin graft, taken from the inner part of the arm and fixed to the internal edges of the defect with separate catgut
sutures. Reconstruction of the external contour of the nose was performed with a nasolabial cutaneoadipous flap, inferior (8 cases) or superior (four
cases) based. The intervention finished with nasal packing to ensure tight adherence of the skin graft to the flap, removal was performed on postoperative day 5-6. Donor areas were closed by primary suture. In all cases we obtained a 100% healing of both the first skin graft, and the nasolabial flap with
no morbidity in donor areas, with a good aesthetic and functional results in all cases. The proposed new method of closure allows rapid postoperative
wound healing and tissue reconstruction not only of the skin of ala nasalis, but also of the vestibular cuteneo-mucous part
Medulloblastoma – an overview
The authors intend to present in this paper the most actual trends and perspectives in the challenging field of medulloblastoma multimodal treatment. The data collected from the medical literature and augmented with personal experience, outline a scientifical and pragmatic conduct of medical thinking and action. The epidemiology, clinical presentation, neuroimaging modalities, pathology and therapy (surgical, XRT and chemotherapy) regardind this medical issue are thoroughly glanced and outlined
