Brain-to-Brain Coupling in the Gamma-Band as a Marker of Shared Intentionality
Cooperation and competition are two ways of social interaction keys to life in society. Recent EEG-based hyperscanning studies reveal that cooperative and competitive interactions induce an increase in interbrain coupling. However, whether this interbrain coupling effect is just a reflection of inter-subject motor coordination or can also signal the type of social interaction is unknown. Here, we show that behavioral coordination and social interaction type can be distinguished according to the frequency of oscillation in which the brains are coupled. We use EEG to simultaneously measure the brain activity of pairs of subjects, while they were performing a visual cue-target task in a cooperative and competitive manner. Behavioral responses were quasi-simultaneous between subject pairs for both competitive and cooperative conditions, with faster average response times for the competitive condition. Concerning brain activity, we found increased interbrain coupling in theta band (3–7 Hz) during cooperation and competition, with stronger coupling during competitive interactions. This increase of interbrain theta coupling correlated with a decrease in reaction times of the dyads. Interestingly, we also found an increase in brain-to-brain coupling in gamma band (38–42 Hz) only during cooperative interactions. Unlike the theta coupling effect, the gamma interbrain coupling did not correlate with dyads’ reaction times. Taken together, these results suggest that theta interbrain coupling could be linked to motor coordination processes common to cooperative and competitive interactions, while gamma brain-to-brain coupling emerges as an electrophysiological marker of shared intentionality during cooperative interactions

Monomial warm inflation revisited
We revisit the idea that the inflaton may have dissipated part of its energy
into a thermal bath during inflation, considering monomial inflationary
potentials and three different forms of dissipation rate. Using a numerical
Fokker-Planck approach to describe the stochastic dynamics of inflationary
fluctuations, we confront this scenario with current bounds on the spectrum of
curvature fluctuations and primordial gravitational waves. We also obtain
analytical approximations that outperform those frequently used in previous
analyses. We show that only our numerical Fokker-Planck method is accurate,
fast and precise enough to test these models against current data. We advocate
its use in future studies of warm inflation. We also apply the stochastic
inflation formalism to this scenario, finding that the resulting spectrum is
the same as the one obtained with standard perturbation theory. We discuss the
origin and convenience of using a commonly implemented large thermal correction
to the primordial spectrum and the implications of such a term for a specific
scenario. Improved bounds on the scalar spectral index will further constrain
warm inflation in the near future.Comment: 66 pages, 16 figures; v3: improved discussion and additional appendi

This Final Degree Project investigates the use of big data in the context of football and its application in decision making related to the scouting and signing of players. It analyses the data warehouse of R.C. Deportivo de La Coruña, which contains a large amount of statistical information on a multitude of players at a global level and variables related to aspects of the game during the 90 minutes of a football match. The study focuses on the application of advanced statistical analysis techniques and data mining to explore the players and evaluate their potential to be signed by the club.
The contamination caused by the leaching from the phosphogypsum stack located at Huelva (SW Spain) is a matter of concern considering that reaches the estuarine environment where this waste is stack-piled. Everything indicates that this contamination will persist even after applying the encapsulation restoration proposed by the responsible industry. The current research is focused on optimizing an alkaline treatment system for these leachates using geochemical modelling with the PHREEQC code. For this purpose, on the one hand, a sample of acid leachate from the phosphogypsum stacks with a pH of 2.12 and high pollutant concentrations was used as starting point. On the other hand, three alkaline reagents were used: calcite (CaCO3; 25.0 g/L), magnesia (77% MgO; 10.1 g/L) and portlandite (Ca(OH)2; 18.5 g/L). The simulations consisted of evaluating the behaviour of anions and cations present in the leachates during the addition of each of the alkaline reagents, with special emphasis on the mineral phases that control the mobility of the pollutants.
The results obtained showed the neutralization of acidity of the leachates and, consequently, the decrease in the solubility of the pollutants, which favours the precipitation of mineral phases that retain these elements. It was found that the highest removal of contamination is associated with the precipitation of phosphates and, to a lesser extent, fluorides. Based on the efficacy of these processes and the cost-effectiveness ratio, portlandite was selected as the best alkaline reagent for its possible application in future treatment systems. With the consumption of 13.1 g/L, it is possible to raise the pH to 9.70. This increase in pH was concomitant with the removal of 100% of phosphates, zinc and iron, 99% of fluorides and aluminium and of the order of 90% of other trace elements (arsenic, chromium, copper and uranium). The results achieved show a high degree of similarity with those that have been obtained in previous laboratory studies, which largely allows the validation of the model used. The geochemical model allows also to calculate, without the need for real experiments, how much reagent to use to avoid reaching extremely alkaline pH values that would lead to a further increase in the solubility of pollutants, which would imply an unnecessary expense and an inadequate treatment. In summary, this research should be highlighted as a good starting point for possible designs for future actions on leachates from the phosphogypsum stack of Huelva
