The floriculture industry in Malta
The floriculture industry in Malta is relatively small when compared to that
of other European countries. However, despite several constraints, a number of
growers deal exclusively with the production of floriculture products for local use.
In the early 1970s, a locally based company was much involved in the export of
floricultural products to the United Kingdom. This year (2002), four local growers
initiated the growing and export of gladioli flowers to Italy.peer-reviewe
Radio Spectrum Allocation and Management in Central American Countries and their Impact on the Development of the Mobile Telecommunications Services Sector
Spanish version available in IDRC Digital Library: Asignación y Administración del
Espectro Radioeléctrico en Países de
Centroamérica y su Impacto en el
Desarrollo del Sector de Servicios de
Telecomunicación MóvilResearch findings from this study help to make inferences about the significance of spectrum allocation in the reduction of prices of mobile services provided in telecommunications in Central American countries. Spectrum allocation policy is an effective instrument in promoting greater competition in the telecommunications sector and consequently, the provision of lower-cost services in the region. Policy recommendations are made regarding the allocation and use of radio spectrum/broadband
The Needs and Opportunities for Agricultural Research from the Perspective of Latin America and the Caribbean
Document summarizing the research challenges faced by the Latin America and Caribbean Region prepared on behalf of the Regional Forum for Agricultural Research in Latin America and the Caribbean. It is based on the full action plan for that region, which is also included in the record. The shorter document was prepared for the first meeting of the Global Forum on Agricultural Research held during CGIAR International Centers Week, October-November 1996.The paper described research priorities, and the status of national research, taking Mexico as an example. It discussed ways of increasing the effectiveness and impact of agricultural research in Latin America through more effective partnerships between regional, subregional, and national actors, as well as through their participation in global agricultural research. These two documents were circulated as inputs to GFAR discussions leading to the Declaration and Action Plan for Global Partnerships in Agricultural Research

Evaluation and use of surveillance system data toward the identification of high-risk areas for potential cholera vaccination: a case study from Niger.
In 2008, Africa accounted for 94% of the cholera cases reported worldwide. Although the World Health Organization currently recommends the oral cholera vaccine in endemic areas for high-risk populations, its use in Sub-Saharan Africa has been limited. Here, we provide the principal results of an evaluation of the cholera surveillance system in the region of Maradi in Niger and an analysis of its data towards identifying high-risk areas for cholera

SIntegraM: a transformative journey
The presentation focused on the contributions afforded to regional development, where the authors, through the SIntegraM project created a collaborative framework for all thematic entities that include such results as bringing together local and regional administrations through spatial data as used for decision-making processes. It also covered the enhanced development planning, transport and utilities’ baseline data thus informing spatial plan formulation, removed redundancies and duplication costs, enabled entities such as Land Registry and the cadastre, enabled social entities such as Housing Authority and NGOs, helped enforcement agencies to enact regulations, gave the public access to information and online tools. The process enabled the data-information-knowledge-action process.peer-reviewe
