MIP-soja: uma tecnologia eficiente e sustentável no manejo dos percevejos no atual sistema produtivo da soja.

    Get PDF

Effective degradation of phenacetin in wastewater by (photo)electro-Fenton processes: Investigation of variables, acute toxicity, and intermediates

Electro-Fenton (EF) and solar photoelectro-Fenton (SPEF) processes were employed at different scales to degrade phenacetin (PNT), the first synthetic analgesic. EF experiments were conducted at lab scale, whereas SPEF experiments were performed in an 8 L pre-pilot plant using an electrochemical filter-press cell. Under optimal conditions (25 mg L−1 PNT, 25.3 mg L−1 Fe2+, and current density of 59.5 mA cm−2), EF resulted in degradation and mineralization degrees of 83.9% and 45.2% at 14 and 230 min, respectively. Similarly, PNT was spiked into real wastewater from a municipal secondary treatment plant, resulting in degradation of 68.0% and mineralization of 39.4%, with an energy consumption of 7.0 kWh g−1. The optimal conditions of SPEF (16.8 mg L−1 Fe2+ and current density of 45.9 mA cm−2) led to degradation and mineralization degrees of 55.9% and 37.1% at 36 and 181 min, respectively, with a low energy consumption of 0.142 kWh g−1. Both processes effectively detoxified the solutions, as demonstrated by tests with Artemia salina and Lactuca sativa. Three distinct degradation pathways were proposed based on the identification of eleven reaction intermediates formed upon •OH attack. In conclusion, the low energy cost of the SPEF process underscores its potential for pharmaceutical degradation in wastewater

    On Aharonov-Casher bound states

In this work bound states for the Aharonov-Casher problem are considered. According to Hagen's work on the exact equivalence between spin-1/2 Aharonov-Bohm and Aharonov-Casher effects, is known that the ∇⋅E\boldsymbol{\nabla}\cdot\mathbf{E} term cannot be neglected in the Hamiltonian if the spin of particle is considered. This term leads to the existence of a singular potential at the origin. By modeling the problem by boundary conditions at the origin which arises by the self-adjoint extension of the Hamiltonian, we derive for the first time an expression for the bound state energy of the Aharonov-Casher problem. As an application, we consider the Aharonov-Casher plus a two-dimensional harmonic oscillator. We derive the expression for the harmonic oscillator energies and compare it with the expression obtained in the case without singularity. At the end, an approach for determination of the self-adjoint extension parameter is given. In our approach, the parameter is obtained essentially in terms of physics of the problem.Comment: 11 pages, matches published versio

Effective treatment of a case of pregnancy toxemia in sheep - case report

    Get PDF
ABSTRACT Pregnancy toxemia has a high mortality rate and few cases with effective treatment are reported, especially when associated with secondary diseases. Therefore, the present work reports the case of a sheep, which was referred to the veterinary hospital of UFMG, in the last month of pregnancy, presenting apathy, hyporexia and sternal recumbency. After the diagnosis of pregnancy toxemia, the fetuses were removed while still alive, but did not survive. Monitoring was started with blood gas analysis, blood glucose assessments and laboratory tests. The results were consistent with liver damage, which was justified by the condition of lipolysis. Treatment consisted of electrolyte replacement plus 50% glucose and potassium chloride, along with administration of antibiotics (ceftiofur, 5mg/kg/SID/IM/7 days), flunixim meglumine (2.2mg/kg/SID/IM first day and 1.1mg/kg/SID/IM on the second and third days) and omeprazole (4mg/kg/SID/oral). The patient had secondarily clinical laminitis, which was treated with cryotherapy and anti-inflammatory drugs, in addition to mastitis, using a single dose of intramammary antibiotics. The work demonstrated the effectiveness of the treatment of pregnancy toxemia, when performed early and intensively, associated with daily clinical and laboratory monitoring of the animal

Nanometric Particle Size And Phase Controlled Synthesis And Characterization Of γ-fe2o3 Or (α + γ)-fe2o3 By A Modified Sol-gel Method

    Get PDF
Fe2O3 nanoparticles with sizes ranging from 15 to 53 nm were synthesized by a modified sol-gel method. Maghemite particles as well as particles with admixture of maghemite and hematite were obtained and characterized by XRD, FTIR, UV-Vis photoacoustic and Mössbauer spectroscopy, TEM, and magnetic measurements. The size and hematite/maghemite ratio of the nanoparticles were controlled by changing the Fe:PVA (poly (vinyl alcohol)) monomeric unit ratio used in the medium reaction (1:6, 1:12, 1:18, and 1:24). The average size of the nanoparticles decreases, and the maghemite content increases with increasing PVA amount until 1:18 ratio. The maghemite and hematite nanoparticles showed cubic and hexagonal morphology, respectively. Direct band gap energy were 1.77 and 1.91 eV for A6 and A18 samples. Zero-field-cooling-field-cooling curves show that samples present superparamagnetic behavior. Maghemite-hematite phase transition and hematite Néel transition were observed near 700 K and 1015 K, respectively. Magnetization of the particles increases consistently with the increase in the amount of PVA used in the synthesis. Mössbauer spectra were adjusted with a hematite sextet and maghemite distribution for A6, A12, and A24 and with maghemite distribution for A18, in agreement with XRD results. © 2013 AIP Publishing LLC.11410Xu, P., Zeng, G.M., Huang, D.L., Feng, C.L., Hu, S., Zhao, M.H., Lai, C., Liu, Z.F., (2012) Sci.
