Lamb's Circulation Types and British Weather: An Evaluation.
This paper describes H. H. Lamb 's synoptic classification of 'airflow
typ es ' and shows how th is scheme can be utilised to fu rther our understanding of
weather patterns in the British Is les. Sp atial con trasts in precipitation receipt are
rela ted to airflow typ e as well as to local fa ctors, such as exposure at the lo cation
concerned and the length of ocean passage for the airflow involved. Changes in the
frequency of the Lamb classifica tion airflow categories are also considered over a 130-
year period. Declin ing frequencies of westerly airflo ws and increases in cyclonic and
anticyclonic ai1jlows are signalled as well as the consequences for climate which these
frequency changes bring. Limitations of the Lamb classification system are also
highlighted; in particular, the inability of the system to classify complex and
transitional synoptic circulations. Wh en more than one ait:flo w type exists over the
British Isles simultaneously, the adoption of sub-regional classification schemes may be
more appropriate
Geographical Variations in Precipitation Yields and Circulation Types in Britain and Ireland.
The geographical distribution of daily precipitation with each of the Lamb-classification circulation types is examined for 65 locations in Britain and Ireland. Substantial differences in spatial receipt are related to exposure at the location concerned and length of ocean passage for the air mass involved. Airflow contrasts occurring at regional scales are also instrumental in producing geographical variability in receipt. Cyclonic south westerlies are identified as the most prolific precipitation-producing synoptic type for the area as a whole, while anticyclonic northerlies and north easterlies are the driest. Changes in the frequency of the 27 categories identified by Lamb are then examined over 130 years of record. A significant change in the make-up of the synoptic circulation is seen to have occurred in recent decades. Declining westerlies and increasing cyclonic and anticyclonic airflows are suggested as being primarily responsible for recent changes in precipitation geography. Future precipitation will be determined partly by such changes in airflow types
Money & Trust in Digital Society, Bitcoin and Stablecoins in ML enabled Metaverse Telecollaboration
We present a state of the art and positioning book, about Digital society
tools, namely; Web3, Bitcoin, Metaverse, AI/ML, accessibility, safeguarding and
telecollaboration. A high level overview of Web3 technologies leads to a
description of blockchain, and the Bitcoin network is specifically selected for
detailed examination. Suitable components of the extended Bitcoin ecosystem are
described in more depth. Other mechanisms for native digital value transfer are
described, with a focus on `money'. Metaverse technology is over-viewed,
primarily from the perspective of Bitcoin and extended reality. Bitcoin is
selected as the best contender for value transfer in metaverses because of it's
free and open source nature, and network effect. Challenges and risks of this
approach are identified. A cloud deployable virtual machine based technology
stack deployment guide with a focus on cybersecurity best practice can be
downloaded from GitHub to experiment with the technologies. This deployable lab
is designed to inform development of secure value transaction, for small and
medium sized companies
Postharvest Handling of Fresh Vegetables: Proceedings of a workshop held in Beijing, People’s Republic of China, 9–11 May 2001
This proceedings covers papers presented at end of project workshop in Beijing in 2001. The workshop introduced new research challenges that have been proposed in the fields of postharvest handling of melons and in improvements to microbial safety of fresh vegetables. (ISSN 1447-0837
Predictors of responsivity to language intervention : findings from a RCT
Logistic regression analyses were carried out on the pre- and blind-assessed post-intervention language outcome measures for 124 children aged 6-11 years with primary language impairment randomised to language therapy who received three 30-40 minute sessions per week in mainstream schools over fifteen weeks. Only the model for binary gains (made progress/did not make progess) for receptive language was significant, with gender and case status (specific expressive versus mixed receptive-expressive impairment) significant predictors. Non-verbal IQ score was not a significant predictor of responsivity to intervention. Implications for the relationship between non-verbal development and primary language impairment and for intervention are discussed

Imaging of adult ocular and orbital pathology - a pictorial review
Orbital pathology often presents a diagnostic challenge to the reporting radiologist. The aetiology is protean, and clinical input is therefore often necessary to narrow the differential diagnosis. With this manuscript, we provide a pictorial review of adult ocular and orbital pathology.peer-reviewe
