The results of experimental research into dry sliding friction of Hadfield steel single crystals involving registration of acoustic emission are presented in the paper. The images of friction surfaces of Hadfield steel single crystals and wear grooves of the counterbody surface made after completion of three serial experiments conducted under similar conditions and friction regimes are given. The relation of the acoustic emission waveform envelope to the changing friction factor is revealed. Amplitude-frequency characteristics of acoustic emission signal frames are determined on the base of Fast Fourier Transform and Short Time Fourier Transform during the run-in stage of tribounits and in the process of stable friction

Friction-induced slip band relief of -Hadfield steel single crystal oriented for multiple slip deformation

    No full text
Hadfield steel is characterized both by high wear-resistance and ability to strain hardening. Due to these properties Hadfield steel is widely used in various industrial applications. The present investigation is aimed at analyzing the deformational behavior of Hadfield steel single crystals with [10 7 1] and [34Μ…2Μ…] compression and friction axis orientations, respectively. Consecutive experiments under constant loading conditions have demonstrated the deformation-induced relief development stages as well as succession of slip system activation in the process. Both slip band step height and inter-band space increased due to the development of the maximum stress concentration zone and distortions of the near-end zone. The sequence and direction of the shear in the analyzed systems are ascertained by analyzing the shear stress value and the deformation relief

Dry sliding of Hadfield steel single crystal oriented to deformation by slip and twinning: Deformation, wear, and acoustic emission characterization

    No full text
This paper studies Hadfield steel single crystals with the orientation of the normal load axis and friction axis . The chosen orientation implies that deformation develops by slip and twinning. Analysis of the crystallographic orientation and acting stresses has revealed stages of shear deformation development in slip systems. Consecutive tests of the same duration were conducted to study the evolution of the deformation relief. Using the fast Fourier transform, the median frequency and energy of acoustic emission signals generated at different stages of friction are analyzed. A correlation is established between changes in the acoustic emission parameters and wear of single crystals
