Structure Constant of the Yang-Lee Edge Singularity

This paper studies the Yang-Lee singularity of the 2-dimensional Ising model on the cylinder via transfer matrix and finite-size scaling techniques. These techniques enable a measurement of the 2-point and 3-point correlations and a comparison of a measurement of a corresponding universal amplitude with a prediction for the amplitude from the (A4,A1) minimal conformal field theory.Comment: 1 figur

Monte Carlo simulation of boson lattices

Boson lattices are theoretically well described by the Hubbard model. The basic model and its variants can be effectively simulated using Monte Carlo techniques. We describe two newly developed approaches, the Stochastic Series Expansion (SSE) with directed loop updates and continuous--time Diffusion Monte Carlo (CTDMC). SSE is a formulation of the finite temperature partition function as a stochastic sampling over product terms. Directed loops is a general framework to implement this stochastic sampling in a non--local fashion while maintaining detailed balance. CTDMC is well suited to finding exact ground--state properties, applicable to any lattice model not suffering from the sign problem; for a lattice model the evolution of the wave function can be performed in continuous time without any time discretization error. Both the directed loop algorithm and the CTDMC are important recent advances in development of computational methods. Here we present results for a Hubbard model for anti--ferromagnetic spin--1 bosons in one dimensions, and show evidence for a dimerized ground state in the lowest Mott lobe.Comment: 3 pages, 5 figur

Universal Dynamics of Independent Critical Relaxation Modes

    Get PDF
Scaling behavior is studied of several dominant eigenvalues of spectra of Markov matrices and the associated correlation times governing critical slowing down in models in the universality class of the two-dimensional Ising model. A scheme is developed to optimize variational approximants of progressively rapid, independent relaxation modes. These approximants are used to reduce the variance of results obtained by means of an adaptation of a quantum Monte Carlo method to compute eigenvalues subject to errors predominantly of statistical nature. The resulting spectra and correlation times are found to be universal up to a single, non-universal time scale for each model

Monte Carlo computation of correlation times of independent relaxation modes at criticality

We investigate aspects of universality of Glauber critical dynamics in two dimensions. We compute the critical exponent zz and numerically corroborate its universality for three different models in the static Ising universality class and for five independent relaxation modes. We also present evidence for universality of amplitude ratios, which shows that, as far as dynamic behavior is concerned, each model in a given universality class is characterized by a single non-universal metric factor which determines the overall time scale. This paper also discusses in detail the variational and projection methods that are used to compute relaxation times with high accuracy

Excitation Spectrum at the Yang-Lee Edge Singularity of 2D Ising Model on the Strip

At the Yang-Lee edge singularity, finite-size scaling behavior is used to measure the low-lying excitation spectrum of the Ising quantum spin chain for free boundary conditions. The measured spectrum is used to identify the CFT that describes the Yang-Lee edge singularity of the 2D Ising model for free boundary conditions.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figur

Assessing satellite-derived land product quality for earth system science applications: results from the ceos lpv sub-group

    Get PDF
The value of satellite derived land products for science applications and research is dependent upon the known accuracy of the data. CEOS (Committee on Earth Observation Satellites), the space arm of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), plays a key role in coordinating the land product validation process. The Land Product Validation (LPV) sub-group of the CEOS Working Group on Calibration and Validation (WGCV) aims to address the challenges associated with the validation of global land products. This paper provides an overview of LPV sub-group focus area activities, which cover seven terrestrial Essential Climate Variables (ECVs). The contribution will enhance coordination of the scientific needs of the Earth system communities with global LPV activities

Specific heat of the simple-cubic Ising model

We provide an expression quantitatively describing the specific heat of the Ising model on the simple-cubic lattice in the critical region. This expression is based on finite-size scaling of numerical results obtained by means of a Monte Carlo method. It agrees satisfactorily with series expansions and with a set of experimental results. Our results include a determination of the universal amplitude ratio of the specific-heat divergences at both sides of the critical point.Comment: 20 pages, 3 figure

Critical Excitation Spectrum of Quantum Chain With A Local 3-Spin Coupling

This article reports a measurement of the low-energy excitation spectrum along the critical line for a quantum spin chain having a local interaction between three Ising spins and longitudinal and transverse magnetic fields. The measured excitation spectrum agrees with that predicted by the (D4_4, A4_4) conformal minimal model under a nontrivial correspondence between translations at the critical line and discrete lattice translations. Under this correspondence, the measurements confirm a prediction that the critical line of this quantum spin chain and the critical point of the 2D 3-state Potts model are in the same universality class.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure

Enterprise Strategic Analysis and Transformation ESAT

Organizations operate today in a heightened competitive environment in which change is the only certainty. The adage of when in doubt restructure brought about by reengineering, and the turbulence of mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures, has resulted in organizations with often impenetrable functional silos. The challenges bought forth by globalization, schedule compression, cost constraints, time to market pressures, capability differentials in the supplier base, growing shortages of human capital and pressures from stockholders, requires organizations to take a more holistic approach to transformation. The Enterprise Strategic Analysis and Transformation (ESAT) methodology provides a means for the senior leadership team to understand their enterprise, create an actionable vision for the future, plan the transformation and govern the execution
