    Vitamin C inhibited FasL-induced apoptotic death of mouse dendritic cells through c-FLIP expression

    Vitamin C (VitC) is a potent antioxidant and contributes as an apoptosis inhibitor by preventing death receptor-triggered caspase 8 activity. Fas ligand (FasL) induces the apoptotic cell death via activation of Fas signaling, which is dependent on the expression level of anti-apoptotic molecule c-FLIP (FADD-like IL-1beta-converting enzyme-inhibitory proteins). The present study addressed the effects of VitC on survival of dendritic cells (DCs), a regulator of innate and adaptive immunity. To this end, mouse bone marrow cells were isolated and cultured to attain bone marrow-derived DCs (BMDCs). The cells were treated with FasL in the presence or absence of VitC. Real time RT-PCR, Western blotting and FACS analysis were performed to determine different hallmarks of DC apoptosis. As a result, FasL treatment resulted in activation of caspase 8 and stimulation of cell membrane scrambling, the effects were supressed when VitC was present in the cell culture or the cells were transfected with FLIP siRNA. In conclusion, VitC prevented FasL-triggered DC apoptosis mediated through the expression of c-FLIP

    THE EFFECTIVENESS OF EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING MODELS IN TEACHER TRAINING: A CASE STUDY IN THAI NGUYEN PROVINCE, VIETNAM

    The quality of education may be raised in large part by investing in teacher training. It contributes to the expansion and updating of professional knowledge, teaching abilities, and new and improved methods of approaching students. Teachers can also continue to grow individually via the refresher process, reflect on their teaching methods, and adjust to shifts in the educational landscape and the needs of their students. The purpose of the project is to identify an experiential learning-based teacher training paradigm that is efficient and workable. A pedagogical experiment using this model was conducted with two classes and 35 high school teachers in Thai Nguyen Province, Vietnam. The findings of the research, which used the document research approach together with expert opinion, demonstrate that learning via experience in teacher training has accomplished the desired objective in 5 key stages: (1) (1) Choosing a few standard lessons to organize to teach illustrations; (2) preparing to organize the illustration teaching after the standard lesson has been chosen; (3) practicing demonstration teaching; (4) organizing the discussion after attending the demonstration lesson; and (5) making personal plans to organize the lesson in accordance with the training's content.  Article visualizations

    Our study recorded the presence of Mesocriconema sphaeroce phalum on carrot in Hanoi city and Hai Duong province in Vietnam. This species was identified by morphometric, morphological characterizations, and molecular characterization of D2D3 of 28S rDNA sequence. To our knowledge, this is the first report of M. sphaerocephalum on carrot in Vietnam

    Biosurfactants: Characterization, Microemulsion Formation and Potential Applications

    Biosurfactants, which are produced from microorganisms, have become of interest due to their non-toxic nature, their biodegradability and their production from renewable resources. Research has evaluated the use of biosurfactants in a wide variety of potential applications such as environmental bioremediation, biomedical applications, cosmetics, personal care products and perfume and fragrance industry. However, limited research has evaluated microemulsion formulations using biosurfactants. Microemulsions are thermodynamically stable dispersions of oil and water stabilized by surfactant films. Microemulsions possess ultralow interfacial tension and high solubilization capacity, making them desirable in enhanced oil recovery, drug delivery, cosmetic and pharmaceutical applications. Therefore, in this work we characterized the hydrophobicity/hydrophilicity of biosurfactants, specifically rhamnolipid and sophorolipid biosurfactant, and evaluated their ability to formulate alcohol-free microemulsions with a range of oils (both oil types and oil EACNs). We also demonstrated the feasibility of vegetable oil extraction using diesel-based reverse micellar microemulsion; as a result, blends of diesel and vegetable oil were produced and evaluated for biofuel used in diesel engines. Biocompatible lecithin-based microemulsions using rhamnolipid and sophorolipid biosurfactants formulated with limonene and isopropyl myristate were shown to be insensitive to temperature and salinity changes, making them desirable in cosmetic and drug delivery applications. In addition, this work showed that the hexadecane detergency performance of our biocompatible formulation was better than that of commercial detergency and comparable to formulations reported in the literature

    Efficient Sequential Monte-Carlo Samplers for Bayesian Inference

    In many problems, complex non-Gaussian and/or nonlinear models are required to accurately describe a physical system of interest. In such cases, Monte Carlo algorithms are remarkably flexible and extremely powerful approaches to solve such inference problems. However, in the presence of a high-dimensional and/or multimodal posterior distribution, it is widely documented that standard Monte-Carlo techniques could lead to poor performance. In this paper, the study is focused on a Sequential Monte-Carlo (SMC) sampler framework, a more robust and efficient Monte Carlo algorithm. Although this approach presents many advantages over traditional Monte-Carlo methods, the potential of this emergent technique is however largely underexploited in signal processing. In this work, we aim at proposing some novel strategies that will improve the efficiency and facilitate practical implementation of the SMC sampler specifically for signal processing applications. Firstly, we propose an automatic and adaptive strategy that selects the sequence of distributions within the SMC sampler that minimizes the asymptotic variance of the estimator of the posterior normalization constant. This is critical for performing model selection in modelling applications in Bayesian signal processing. The second original contribution we present improves the global efficiency of the SMC sampler by introducing a novel correction mechanism that allows the use of the particles generated through all the iterations of the algorithm (instead of only particles from the last iteration). This is a significant contribution as it removes the need to discard a large portion of the samples obtained, as is standard in standard SMC methods.     Large displacements of FGSW beams in thermal environment using a finite element formulation

    The large displacements of functionally graded sandwich (FGSW) beams in thermal environment  are studied using a finite element formulation. The beams are composed of three layers, a homogeneous core and two functionally graded face sheets with volume fraction of constituents following a power gradation law. The material properties of the beams are considered to be temperature-dependent.  Based on Antman beam model and the total Lagrange formulation, a two-node nonlinear beam element taking the effect of temperature rise into account  is formulated and employed in the study. The element with explicit expressions for the internal force vector and tangent stiffness matrix is derived using linear interpolations and reduced integration technique to avoid the shear locking. Newton-Raphson based iterative algorithm is employed in combination with the arc-length control method to compute the large displacement response of a cantilever FGSW beam subjected to end forces.  The accuracy of the formulated element is confirmed through a comparison study. The effects of the material inhomogeneity, temperature rise and layer thickness ratio on the large deflection response of the beam are examined and highlighted

    Policies on Inclusive Education for Children with Disabilities in Vietnam

    This article traces the history of inclusive education policy development, laws that have been promulgated, and the dissemination of policy and legal rights and responsibilities through conferences, seminars and university coursework in Vietnam since 1995 when the responsibility for educating children with disabilities shifted from the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to the Ministry of Education and Training. Numerous standards of practice related to roles and responsibilities and recommendations for improvemtns in policy and practice are shared as well as lessons learned from external evaluation efforts that will be valuable for further development and refinement of poilicies to forward inclusive education in Vietnam

    IMPACT OF THE EVFTA AGREEMENT: A STUDY ON VIETNAM'S EXPORTED GOODS

    Abstract The research aims to assess the quantitative impact of the Vietnam-European Union Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) on Vietnam's export growth to the EU market. The study employs quantitative analysis using the SMART model with data on export turnover and scenarios of tariff reduction to 0% when EVFTA takes effect. Based on the export turnover data and necessary parameters, the analysis results show an increase in Vietnam's exports to the EU market when EVFTA becomes effective. As a result, the research proposes some implications to promote Vietnam's export activities to the EU in the future

    Determining the Price of Software Products in Software Manufacturing Firms in Vietnam

    From the early 2000s to the present, Vietnam has made efforts to facilitate the development of information technology industry and to promote the growth of it market in general and software in particular. Many policies and measures to encourage the development of software firms have been issued by the government. However, despite enjoying favorable conditions from the State's support policy, software firms still face many difficulties in product consumption. In addition to illegally copying software and copyrighted software that have been severely damaged, causing great harm to manufacturers, there are also situations where products are not sold with the right value. Currently, in Vietnam there is not yet a method of calculation, as well as a complete unified accounting for the determination of software product price, each firm follows its experience. Based on data collected, both primary and secondary, we synthesize, evaluate, compare and analyze the research topic. The results show that the determination of software product price at software manufacturing firms is not very reasonable; the recognition and allocation of core software value has not been proper. So based on the findings, some recommendations are given for improving the determination of product prices at software manufacturing firms in the context of developing countries like Vietnam.
