    Fragment isospin distributions and the phase diagram of excited nuclear systems

    Fragment average isospin distributions are investigated within a microcanonical multifragmentation model in different regions of the phase diagram. The results indicate that in the liquid phase versus ZZ is monotonically increasing, in the phase coexistence region it has a rise and fall shape and in the gas phase it is constant. Deviations from this behavior may manifest at low fragment multiplicity as a consequence of mass/charge conservation. Characterization of the "free" and "bound" phases function of fragment charge reconfirms the neutron enrichment of the "free" phase with respect to the "bound" one irrespectively the localization of the multifragmentation event in the phase diagram.Comment: 23 pages, 12 figure

    Surface tension in a compressible liquid-drop model: Effects on nuclear density and neutron skin thickness

    We examine whether or not the surface tension acts to increase the nucleon density in the nuclear interior within a compressible liquid-drop model.     Delay Parameter Selection in Permutation Entropy Using Topological Data Analysis

    Permutation Entropy (PE) is a powerful tool for quantifying the predictability of a sequence which includes measuring the regularity of a time series. Despite its successful application in a variety of scientific domains, PE requires a judicious choice of the delay parameter τ\tau. While another parameter of interest in PE is the motif dimension nn, Typically nn is selected between 44 and 88 with 55 or 66 giving optimal results for the majority of systems. Therefore, in this work we focus solely on choosing the delay parameter. Selecting τ\tau is often accomplished using trial and error guided by the expertise of domain scientists. However, in this paper, we show that persistent homology, the flag ship tool from Topological Data Analysis (TDA) toolset, provides an approach for the automatic selection of τ\tau. We evaluate the successful identification of a suitable τ\tau from our TDA-based approach by comparing our results to a variety of examples in published literature

    An interactive computerized project management software package (RISKNET) is designed to analyze the effect of the risk involved in each specific activity on the results of the total SEASAT-A program. Both the time and the cost of each distinct activity can be modeled with an uncertainty interval so as to provide the project manager with not only the expected time and cost for the completion of the total program, but also with the expected range of costs corresponding to any desired level of significance. The nature of the SEASAT-A program is described. The capabilities of RISKNET and the implementation plan of a RISKNET analysis for the development of SEASAT-A are presented

    By using a suitable set of the surface energy coefficient, nuclear radius, and universal function, the original proximity potential 1977 is modified. The overestimate of the data by 4 % reported in the literature is significantly reduced. The nuclear masses can also be reproduced using a Coulomb radius taking into account the increase of the ratio R_0/A1/3R\_0/A^{1/3} with increasing mass, the fitted surface energy coefficient remaining around 18 MeV
