Jenayah Rogol Di Negeri Kedah : Satu Kajian Kes Ke Atas Penjenayah/Banduan Di Penjara Alor Setar

The emphasis of the study are upon Rape Crime. The respondents of the study are carried on eight convicted rape crime prisoners whom are now serving jail sentences at the Alor Setar Prison Center. The interview / questionnaire done upon the selected respondents were chosen at random in order to identify the profile, alighment/trend, causes of involvement, cases relatives and the push factors which ancourages rape cases. On the other hand, the emphasis upon self behaviour, background and socio-economic factor whether there are relations with the rape events that occur. The findings of the study shows that every incidents have the motives as follows i.e. there are relations between the rapist and the victim because in most cases indicated such existence and the act was consented by the victim, some rapist take advantage upon underaged victims especially to their own daughters, neighbours daughters, girlfriend, in other words, the rapist comes from all walks of life. There are instances that the rapist might have the intention to commit other crimes such as robbery before committing rape. Besides that, some rapist might be influenced with the sex act from viewing phonographic videos/pictures etc and there are rapist which had a high sex desire which could not be control and as a result commit rape. Various ways and methods have been utilise including strengtheing the existing laws. However the implementation does not prevail. In contrast more rape cases and other social ills increase and cannot be curb by the Government. Selected demographic variables and community policing participation among citizens in Nigeria: a pilot study

In consideration of increase in crime rate and societal ills, Nigeria must improve upon its security architecture and policies to ensure security of live and property in the country. Effective community policing through increases citizens’ participation is of paramount importance.This paper is a pilot research study of the upcoming main study which intends to investigate community policing participation intention among Nigerian citizens. Thus, the paper examines small sample of data on the impact of ethnicity, religion, trust in the police, and attitudes toward the police on intention to participate in community policing program in Nigeria.The study utilizes survey questionnaire to obtain data. The survey questionnaire was at the beginning subjected to content validation.The reviewed version of the survey was distributed to the pilot sample.The returned survey was scrutinized for reliability using SPSS version 16.0. The results indicate that the instrument attained the thresh hold, therefore valid and reliable.Additionally, the data shows evidence of practical consistency

Ethno-religious identity and the quest for community policing participation in Nigeria

Community policing is an awe-inspiring mechanism for managing crime and social problems. However, ethnic and religious identity and conflicts have lean towards to affect the efficacy and viability of the community policing program in Nigeria. With a strong commitment and plans by the government in addressing crime and other social ills, through community policing, almost no outcomes appear to be imminent because Nigeria is continuously overloaded by ethnic and religious sentiments. This paper investigates the impact of ethnic and religious identity and conflict on Nigerian’s community policing program.The paper contends that ethno-religious identity and conflict not only undermines the viability and efficacy of community policing to foster security, additionally debilitates the unity and stability of the country.The fundamental argument is that unrestrained competition among the various ethnic and religious groups have affected public relations, and endanger the citizens’ participation in community policing program negatively. The paper concludes that, enlightenment campaign, especially among youth on ethno-religious tolerance, citizens’ participation in collective security, inter-religious and ethnic tolerance and harmony, police officers’ effective interaction with the citizens would restore public confidence, thereby enhances citizens’ participation in community policing program

Decision-making model at local government level: a new proposed for Majlis Perbandaran Kuantan

The subject-matter of the decision-making process is far wider than the traditional coverage of the study of local government.Internal and external factors and the complexity of the processes at various levels are recognized as significant contributors to the process of policy-making. This study attempted to understand this process, based on the conceptual and theoretical framework, and the formulation of a set of decision-guidelines under the new proposed model by interviewing a group of Councillors from Kuantan Municipality Council.Specifically, it attempts to understand the role of Councillors in the local government system and factors influence them in making the right decision.The new factors that developed from this study would contribute to the formulation of a new framework of decision-making.The findings presented are derived from those meeting and support by input from other parties such as politicians, planners and academicians. The interpretation of Councillor’s respond to certain questions was descriptively analysed. One striking conclusion that can be derived from the findings is that Councillors have no clear guidelines in order to assist them making a right decision on the council’s matter.By using the new process that based on the 13 factors as decision-guidelines, they believed and agreed that will make their decisions fundamentally more accurate and focused. In future research, improvements that could be applied by Councillors in ensuring the current process of decision-making at the local government level more inclusive and effective by enhancing the role of Councillors and strengthening strategic partnerships by collaborating with other focus groups

Regional development policies practiced in the rural development approach in Malaysia: A case study in Seberang Perai

The characteristics and the needs of the developing countries based on agriculture is rely on one of the integrated approaches known as the Traditional Village Development Approach is stressed for the regional development in Malaysia. This scenario occurs due to the failure of the previous regional development policies, particularly the limited spillover effects, has encouraged a more integrated approach.The objective of this approach is to lessen the disproportionate gap between the urban and rural areas, and at the same time upgrade the villagers’ standard of living.This strategy includes agricultural improvement through ownership changes and small farm consolidation into plantations, the development of non-economic activities and the changes in settlement structure and the establishment of the growth centers.The findings of the study showed that there is still some space for action that needs to be taken in order to develop the standard of living of the rural population, particularly in identifying the priorities for the development and the overall development strategy.The most important thing is to ensure that the returns and a more optimum benefit are given to the population through a more comprehensive and collective participation

POLA ASUH ORANG TUA PENGGUNA NARKOBA (STUDI TERHADAP REMAJA DALAM KONTEKS ACEH)

Abstract: This study aims to determine the relationship between parenting and drug abuse among adolescents. The study used a cross sectional survey, which involved 181 adolescent drug users who underwent rehabilitation programs at rehabilitation centers in Aceh. Their ages ranged from 12 to 22 years. The instrument used in this study was the Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ) from Buri (1991) which was used to measure parenting patterns from adolescents' perceptions. The data collected was analyzed using the computer application program Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23.0. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between parenting and drug abuse behavior. Authoritative parenting has a significant negative effect on drug abuse, while authoritarian and permissive parenting has a significant positive effect on drug abuse. This study generally informs that parenting patterns can influence the behavior of adolescents involved in drug abuse. Therefore, this research has implications for families and educational institutions.Keywords: Parenting Style; Drug Users; Adolescence.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara pola asuh orang tua dengan penyalahgunaan narkoba dalam kalangan remaja. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan survei cross sectional, yang melibatkan 181 orang remaja pengguna narkoba yang menjalani program rehabilitasi pada pusat-pusat rehabilitasi narkoba di Aceh. Usia mereka berkisar antara 12 sampai dengan 22 tahun. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Parental Authority Questionnaire (PAQ) dari Buri (1991) yang digunakan untuk mengukur pola asuh orang tua dari persepsi remaja. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis menggunakan bantuan aplikasi komputer program Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) versi 23.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada hubungan yang signifikan antara pola asuh orang tua dengan perilaku penyalahgunaan narkoba. Pola asuh demokratis mempunyai pengaruh negatif yang signifikan terhadap penyalahgunaan narkoba, sementara pola asuh otoriter dan permisif mempunyai pengruh positif yang signifikan terhadap penyalahgunaan narkoba. Penelitian ini secara umum menginformasikan bahwa pola asuh orang tua dapat mempengaruhi perilaku remaja terlibat dalam penyalahgunaan narkoba. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini memberikan implikasi bagi keluarga dan lembaga-lembaga pendidikan serta pusat rehabilitasi narkoba.Kata Kunci: Pola Asuh Orang Tua; Pengguna Narkoba; Remaja
