Investigation of Io's Auroral Hiss Emissions Due To Its Motion in Jupiter's Magnetosphere
The left-hand side of the auroral hiss emission observed by Galileo has a
frequency time shaped very similar to the funnel shape observed in the earth's
auroral region. This close similarity indicates that we can use the
whistler-mode propagation near resonance cone to locate the emission source. In
this paper the general characteristic of the whistler mode are discussed. Then
the position of the emission source has been investigated using a geometry
method that takes into account the Galileo's trajectory. Initially it is
assumed the source is a point. Then the possibility of sheet source aligned
along the magnetic field lines which are tangent to the surface of Io is
investigated. Both of two types of sources show that the whistler mode
radiation originates very close to the surface of the Io
Correlation Functions and AdS/LCFT Correspondence
Correlation functions of Logarithmic conformal field theory is investigated
using the ADS/CFT correspondence and a novel method based on nilpotent weights
and 'super fields'. Adding an specific form of interaction, we introduce a
perturbative method to calculate the correlation functions.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure
Regulating the fast-food landscape: Canadian news media representation of the Healthy Menu Choices Act
With the rapid rise of fast food consumption in Canada, Ontario was the first province to legislate menu labelling requirements via the enactment of the Healthy Menu Choice Act (HMCA). As the news media plays a significant role in policy debates and the agenda for policymakers and the public, the purpose of this mixed-methods study was to clarify the manner in which the news media portrayed the strengths and critiques of the Act, and its impact on members of the community, including consumers and stakeholders. Drawing on data from Canadian regional and national news outlets, the major findings highlight that, although the media reported that the HMCA was a positive step forward, this was tempered by critiques concerning the ineffectiveness of using caloric labelling as the sole measure of health, and its predicted low impact on changing consumption patterns on its own. Furthermore, the news media were found to focus accountability for healthier eating choices largely on the individual, with very little consideration of the role of the food industry or the social and structural determinants that affect food choice. A strong conflation of health, weight and calories was apparent, with little acknowledgement of the implications of menu choice for chronic illness. The analysis demonstrates that the complex factors associated with food choice were largely unrecognized by the media, including the limited extent to which social, cultural, political and corporate determinants of unhealthy choices were taken into account as the legislation was developed. Greater recognition of these factors by the media concerning the HMCA may evoke more meaningful and long-term change for health and food choicesYork University Librarie
Calculation of Four Point Correlation Function of Logarithmic Conformal Field Theory Using AdS/CFT Correspondence
We use the correspondence between scalar field theory on AdS and induced
conformal field theory on its boundary to calculate correlation functions of
logarithmic conformal field theory in arbitrary dimensions. Our calculations
utilize the newly proposed method of nilpotent weights. We derive expressions
for the four point function assuming a generic interaction termComment: 7 pages, no figure
Modeling batch annealing process using data mining techniques for cold rolled steel sheets
The annealing process is one of the important operations in production of cold rolled steel sheets, which significantly influences the final product quality of cold rolling mills. In this process, cold rolled coils are heated slowly to a desired temperature and then cooled. Modelling of annealing process (prediction of heating and cooling time and trend prediction of coil core temperature) is a very sophisticated and expensive work. Modelling of annealing process can be done by using of thermal models. In this paper, Modelling of steel annealing process is proposed by using data mining techniques. The main advantages of modelling with data mining techniques are: high speed in data processing, acceptable accuracy in obtained results and simplicity in using of this method. In this paper, after comparison of results of some data mining techniques, feed forward back propagation neural network is applied for annealing process modelling. A good correlation between results of this method and results of thermal models has been obtained
On the AdS/CFT Correspondence and Logarithmic Operator
Logarithmic conformal field theory is investigated using the AdS/CFT
correspondence and a novel method based on nilpotent weights. Using this device
we add ghost fermions and point to a BRST invariance of the theory.Comment: 8 Pages, Typos corrected, references added changes in the content of
