    Point-like topological defects in bilayer quantum Hall systems

    Following a suggestion given in Phys. Lett. B 571 (2003) 250, we show how a bilayer Quantum Hall system at fillings nu =m/pm+2 can exhibit a point-like topological defect in its edge state structure. Indeed our CFT theory for such a system, the Twisted Model (TM), gives rise in a natural way to such a feature in the twisted sector. Our results are in agreement with recent experimental findings (cond-mat/0503478) which evidence the presence of a topological defect in the bilayer system.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figure

    Edge excitations and Topological orders in rotating Bose gases

    The edge excitations and related topological orders of correlated states of a fast rotating Bose gas are studied. Using exact diagonalization of small systems, we compute the energies and number of edge excitations, as well as the boson occupancy near the edge for various states. The chiral Luttinger-liquid theory of Wen is found to be a good description of the edges of the bosonic Laughlin and other states identified as members of the principal Jain sequence for bosons. However, we find that in a harmonic trap the edge of the state identified as the Moore-Read (Pfaffian) state shows a number of anomalies.     Signal-to-Noise Ratio in Adsorption-Based Microfluidic Bio/Chemical Sensors

    The noise due to stochastic fluctuations of the number of adsorbed analyte particles, caused by random adsorption-desorption (AD) process coupled with analyte convection and diffusion, is inherent to adsorption-based bio/chemical sensors. It posses the fundamental limit for the detection of analyte. In this study we perform an analysis of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of microfluidic sensors, taking into account their AD noise. We have shown that mass transfer significantly influences the possibility to achieve the acceptable SNR value. It also influences the minimal detectable concentration and also the time necessary to reach the SNR value that ensures reliable real-time detection and quantification of the analyte

    A cross-country examination on the fear of covid-19 and the sense of loneliness during the first wave of covid-19 outbreak

    The aim of the current study is to examine gender, age. and cross-country differences in fear of COVID-19 and sense of loneliness during the lockdown, by comparing people from those countries with a high rate of infections and deaths (e.g., Spain and Italy) and from countries with a mild spread of infection (e.g., Croatia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina). A total of 3876 participants (63% female) completed an online survey on “Everyday life practices in COVID-19 time” in April 2020, including measures of fear of COVID-19 and loneliness. Males and females of all age groups in countries suffering from the powerful impact of the COVID-19 pandemic reported greater fear of COVID-19 and sense of loneliness. In less endangered countries, females and the elderly reported more symptoms than males and the young; in Spanish and Italian samples, the pattern of differences is considerably more complex. Future research should thoroughly examine different age and gender groups. The analysis of emotional well-being in groups at risk of mental health issues may help to lessen the long term social and economic costs due to the COVID-19 outbreak

    By applying the simple and effective method developed to study the the gauge-invariant fermion Green function in 2+1 2+1 dimensional non-compact QED, we study the gauge-invariant Green function in 3+1 3+1 dimensional QED and 2+1 2+1 dimensional non-compact Chern-Simon theory. We also extend our results to the corresponding SU(M) SU(M) non-Abelian gauge theories.     Annealed disorder, rare regions, and local moments: A novel mechanism for metal-insulator transitions

    Local magnetic moments in disordered sytems can be described in terms of annealed magnetic disorder, in addition to the underlying quenched disorder. It is shown that for noninteracting electron systems at zero temperature, the annealed disorder leads to a new mechanism, and a new universality class, for a metal-insulator transition. The transition is driven by a vanishing of the thermodynamic density susceptibility rather than by localization effects. Sci., 20: 1189-1194 expanding supplies of home grown biomass and facilitation of the development and competitiveness of a supply chain in an sustainable manner, presents a core of government's strategy, for energy development in republic of Serbia. Growing agroenergy corps may be one of the solutions according to analysis that were carried out. one of these corps that was found to be especially amenable due to its potentially high productivity and cultivation on degraded terrain is Miscanthus giganteus. The possibility of producing after mentioned plant for the biomass supply chain, at very low cost is the main aim of this study. due to its sterility Miscanthus giganteus can only by propagated by vegetative division. Potential of production of viable rhizome on terrains with different rate of fertility was followed by method of experiments on the field. 6 parameters that were following growth of the rhizome and planting survival rate were monitored. According to the results, main factors that affect production of viable rhizomes are age of mother plants, and biotic effects of weed vegetation. Size of rhizomes and nursery fertilization shoved significantly smaller effect.
