Within each policy chart there are goals, policies, and implementation strategies that can help achieve communities of opportunity. These policies have yielded such outcomes as: support for Native artists in reservation-based cultural economies, the creation of a citywide cultural plan, engaging low-income youth of color in using digital media, and efforts to address redevelopment, employment, food access, and environmental justice

Abstract:This essay will explore pedagogic engagement in a Dutch sustainability site, De Ceuvel. Self-labelled as the “clean-tech playground”, De Ceuvel is a publically accessible site which houses scientists, creatives and a cafĂ©, and whose ambitions focus on the transition towards a sustainable future, given the context of the current ecological crisis. Drawing upon a two-month research internship, I suggest that sensory and aesthetic engagements are fundamental to the site’s function, allowing pedagogic transmission. I introduce the concept ‘soft activism’ throughout my discussion.   Key words: sustainability, ‘soft activism’, pedagogy, aesthetics, senses

Milly Arciniegas, founder of the Hartford Parent University, works in the community to help empower parents and encourage them to take control over their children’s education. Her involvement in the city of Hartford also brings her into contact with residency issues within and outside the Hartford district, where she feels that district lines should not dictate a child’s future in his or her early education. Milly recognizes a significant difference between the quality of schools in some districts versus others. She believes that a lack of adequate funding is largely to blame for these inequalities. Milly plans to continue being involved with residency issues and is optimistic about changes that could happen in the near future
