Codazzi Tensors with Two Eigenvalue Functions

This paper addresses a gap in the classifcation of Codazzi tensors with exactly two eigenfunctions on a Riemannian manifold of dimension three or higher. Derdzinski proved that if the trace of such a tensor is constant and the dimension of one of the the eigenspaces is n1n-1, then the metric is a warped product where the base is an open interval- a conclusion we will show to be true under a milder trace condition. Furthermore, we construct examples of Codazzi tensors having two eigenvalue functions, one of which has eigenspace dimension n1n-1, where the metric is not a warped product with interval base, refuting a remark in \cite{Besse} that the warped product conclusion holds without any restriction on the trace

The City University of New York Law School: An Insider\u27s Report

The Law School of the City University of New York ( CUNY ) is an experiment in whether it is possible for lawyers to integrate their lives. It is not, primarily, an institution with a somewhat novel, somewhat derivative, approach to legal education (although it is that). It is a place where lawyers try to bridge the gap between love and work, those so often dichotomized constituents of life. At CUNY we are trying simultaneously to equip students for survival in the current legal system and to burden them with a critical perspective on that system; to do and think, to practice and teach, to function and feel

The control network of Mars: October 1986

    Get PDF
The control network of Mars is composed of Mariner 9 frames which essentially give full coverage of the planet at low resolution. Superimposed on and tied to this network are strips of Viking mapping frames (resolution 100 to 250 m per pixel) which encircle the equator and 60 deg north latitude and multiple longitude ties between these latitude strips. There are multiple ties between these strips and the Viking 1 lander site. In the future another strip will be established at 60 deg south latitude. Because the Viking 1 lander site has been accurately located, the coordinates of points in its vicinity can be determined with an error of less than 100 m relative to an inertial coordinate system

    Perpetual American options within CTRW's

Continuous-time random walks are a well suited tool for the description of market behaviour at the smallest scale: the tick-to-tick evolution. We will apply this kind of market model to the valuation of perpetual American options: derivatives with no maturity that can be exercised at any time. Our approach leads to option prices that fulfil financial formulas when canonical assumptions on the dynamics governing the process are made, but it is still suitable for more exotic market conditions.Comment: elsart, 12 pages, 2 figures, presented at APFA 6 conference; Revised and condensed version: 8 page
