Naming the Deity, Naming the City: Rama and Ayodhya

This paper studies the predicates associated with the name of the Hindu god Rama, as they come to inhabit the temple town of Ayodhya. My intention is to show how the name Rama is linked to the topography of Ayodhya, but also to a landscape that is marked by the absence of the Babri Mosque, demolished by members of the Hindu right in 1992. The name Rama imagines Ayodhya to be both a pastoral setting and a site of national regeneration. This is achieved by coupling the architectural spaces of Ayodhya to the many names of Rama, and to his kingdom. I suggest that the Rama deity, installed in the place of the mosque, acquires life in this combination

    Factorial threefolds with Ga-actions

The affine cancellation problem, which asks whether complex affine varieties with isomorphic cylinders are themselves isomorphic, has a positive solution for two dimensional varieties whose coordinate rings are unique factorization domains, in particular for the affine plane, but counterexamples are found within normal surfaces Danielewski surfaces and factorial threefolds of logarithmic Kodaira dimension equal to 1. The latter are therefore remote from the affine three-space, the first unknown case where the base of one cylinder is an affine space. Locally trivial Ga-actions play a significant role in these examples. Threefolds admitting free Ga-actions are discussed, especially a class of varieties with negative logarithmic Kodaira dimension which are total spaces of nonisomorphic Ga-bundles. Some members of the class are shown to be isomorphic as abstract varieties, but it is unknown whether any members of the class constitute counterexamples to cancellation

Background: Rheumatic heart disease remains a considerable cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in developing countries such as India. The aim of the present study was to compare ventricular (LV and RV) function in patients with severe mitral stenosis (MS) undergoing balloon mitral Valvuloplasty (BMV) with those on medical management and also with healthy controls and to assess the burden of ventricular (LV and RV) systolic dysfunction, its determinants, and its reversibility with percutaneous balloon mitral Valvuloplasty using speckle tracking echocardiography in patients with severe MS.Methods: This prospective study was performed in a tertiary care center, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow in patients with severe MS, from September 2014 to September 2015. A total of 60 were divided into three groups. Cases (n=30), patients with severe MS undergoing BMV; case controls (n=20), patients with severe MS who did not give consent for BMV and chose medical management and healthy controls (n=10). Cases who underwent BMV were analyzed pre and post BMV and detailed echocardiographic and speckle-tracking echocardiography (STE) was done at baseline, 24-48 hours after BMV and at post one month after BMV. Appropriate statistical analysis was applied and different parameters were compared. Results: Most of the cases (56.7%) control (65%) and healthy controls (40%) were between 21-30 years of age. Female preponderance was observed in the study. A significant (p=0.01) decrease in the LA size, PASP (p=0.0001), MV PG area (p=0.0001) and significant (p=0.0001) increase in the LVEF, MVA area was observed from baseline to post 24-48 hours and at post one month after BMV among cases. Significant improvement was noticed in longitudinal strain and regional rotation in different LV segments as assessed by STE at post 24-48 hours and post one month after BMV (p value 0.001) among cases. No significant (p>0.05) difference in the 2D echo parameters was seen from baseline to follow-ups among the case controls. No significant improvement was observed in regional rotation, global rotation in different LV and RV segments after one month as assessed by STE among case controls whereas significant improvement was seen in cases. Conclusions: BMV results in marked improvement in LV and RV GLS immediately post BMV with improvement towards normalization at follow up after one month and the same can be easily assessed by Speckle tracking echocardiography

Classical light analogue of the nonlocal Aharonov-Bohm effect

We demonstrate the existence of a non-local geometric phase in the intensity-intensity correlations of classical incoherent light, that is not seen in the lower order correlations. This two-photon Pancharatnam phase was observed and modulated in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Using acousto-optic interaction, independent phase noise was introduced to light in the two arms of the interferometer to create two independent incoherent classical sources from laser light. The experiment is the classical optical analogue of the multi-particle Aharonov-Bohm effect. As the trajectory of light over the Poincare sphere introduces a phase shift observable only in the intensity-intensity correlation, it provides a means of deflecting the two-photon wavefront, while having no effect on single photons.Comment: To appear in Europhys. This paper report discusses a theft prevention system, which can prevent the theft and also can be track the object. This system is capable to tracking the vehicle as well as theft prevention. An R.F. module is use to exchange the information regarding vehicle and owner of the vehicle with police control room or SOS services. The vehicle can be track with the help of R.F. receiver. A DTMF based fuel lock has been attached in this system. A cell phone with SIM card has been attached with DTMF IC. The fuel flow in the vehicle can be controlled by give a call to this cell phone. This system has been controlled by a microcontroller which can make the system cost effective, low power consumption, effective and reliable
