    Get PDF
The theoretical part of the paper presents some basics of the laser cutting technology and principles. The characteristics of the CO2 laser beam and the parameters entering the laser cutting process are described. The conventionally used material – S235JR steel, method of its laser cutting and the effect of process technological parameters on the cut area characteristics are presented as well. Experimental investigations were performed on samples made of the S235JR steel, with application of different laser cutting technological parameters, while observing the surface roughness Rz and Ra. Roughness results are displayed as images of the scanned cutting surface geometry and graphically for each sample, with comparison between the individual test samples. Effects of the position of the laser beam focus point, the cutting speed and assist gas pressure on the cut surface roughness are analyzed. It was concluded that the laser cutting parameters impose significant influence on the cut surface quality

The article describes and characterizes the technology and principle of laser cutting PMMA material. Experimental samples with thickness t = 3 mm of PMMA were made with a constant optimized technological parameters of laser cutting. In the experimental part are compared values of hardness of cutted surface, tensile strength of different colour variations and impact on selected mechanical properties by change of technological procedures of selected material processing - tempering of plastics

Finite element simulation of laser cutting process of steel sheet

Lasers are widely used in industry as cutting tools due to ultra flexibility of the cutting conditions, obtaining high quality end product, quick set up, non-mechanical contact between the workpiece and the tool, and small size of the heat affected zone. In the present study, laser gas assisted cutting process is examined. The laser cutting sheet solution is practically always very convenient compared to conventional technologies and brings the greatest cost savings in the manufacturing process

Residual stress simulation of circumferential welded joints

Residual stresses are an important consideration in the component integrity and life assessment of welded structure. The welding process is very complex time dependent physical phenomenon with material nonlinearity. The welding is a thermal process with convection between fluid flow and welding body, between welding body and environment. Next type of boundary conditions is radiation and thermo-mechanical contact on the outer surface of gas pipe in the near of weld. The temperature variation so obtained is utilised to find the distribution of the stress field. In this paper, a brief review of weld simulation and residual stress modelling using the finite element method (FEM) by commercial software ANSYS is presented. Thermo-elastic-plastic formulations using a von Mises yield criterion with nonlinear kinematics hardening has been employed. Residual axial and hoop stresses obtained from the analysis have been shown. The commercial FEM code ANSYS was used for coupled thermalmechanical analysis

Tribological characteristics of Al/SiC/Gr hybrid composites

    No full text
Metal matrix composites (MMCs) are considered as important engineering materials due to their excellent mechanical, as well as tribological properties. When the metal (or alloy) matrix is reinforced with two or more reinforcements, those composites are the so-called hybrid composites. The aluminum metal matrix composites, reinforced with silicon carbide (SiC) and graphite (Gr), are extensively used due to their high strength and wear resistance. The tribological characteristics of such materials are superior to characteristics of the matrix. This research is presenting influence of the load and the graphite and silicon carbide contents the composites’ wear rate and the friction coefficient
