Introduction: Malignant melanoma is a type of cancer that starts in the melanocytes. Due to the continuous increase in melanoma incidence rates public awareness of this problem is of utmost importance. There have been numerous campaigns organised in the media, on the Internet, in the press, on the radio and in dermatological clinics in order to boost overall awareness of the disease.Study objective: The analysis of the state of knowledge about the disease among the students of Bydgoszcz universities.Materials and methods: The study was conducted between the 4th of April 2016 and the 20th of May 2016 among the Bydgoszcz universities’ students of faculties of cosmetology, physiotherapy, medicine, biotechnology, pedagogy and zootechnics. A special survey form was created and used in the study. Results and conclusions:The analysis of the results showed that students of Bydgoszcz universities had good knowledge about melanoma. The study demonstrated that the level of awareness depended on the type of the university they attended. The reason for this is that at the UTP University of Science and Technology (zootechnics), the Kazimierz Wielki University (pedagogy) and the non-public University of Bydgoszcz (pedagogy) information related to medicine is not discussed. In case of most of the questions, the medical university students (Collegium Medicum) were more knowledgeable about melanoma than the students of non-medical universities. The students of cosmetology and medicine were providing most information in the survey. The respondents were able to identify melanoma risk factors and reach a conclusion that using sunbeds can pose a health hazard. Most students use sunscreens with high SPF factors, but are not aware that they need to use them at all times of the day and of the year due to the fact that harmful UV radiation is emitted with varying intensity, but constantly

Abortion - a subject that keeps coming back! Mateusz Łakomski1, Katarzyna Dudzik2, Nataliia Badiuk3 1Chair and Clinic of Geriatrics, Collegium Medicum im. Many esteemed people in our country have confessed to abortion. The changes that had taken place through the amendment of the anti-abortion law [1] contributed to the confession of famous personalities [2]. Most of them show that it was not wrong. Most of the confessions of women who have made abortions come down to one sad conclusion: it is a decision that can not be reversed or changed. This decision imprints not only on the woman who takes her but also on the whole society. Especially since there is a solution for mothers who do not feel good to raise their child. There is even a window of life [28]. They usually work in children's homes, monasteries or hospitals. They allow anonymous leave of a child in a place that is safe for him or her. Children go to adoption and their parents are not sought. In almost all Europe there are "windows of life". The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, appealed for the elimination of "windows of life", the idea of which violates the child's right to identity and is not in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Committee expressed "deep concern over the lack of regulation and the increasing number of baby windows that allow for anonymous abandonment of the baby." Thus, another dilemma arises between the right to identity and the right to life. He recommends "anonymous birth" in hospitals. This is a procedure used inter alia in Germany. During childbirth, the mother remains anonymous, although her data is kept in a designated office. The child is 16 years old, if he wants to know her identity. [29] Keywords: abortion, abortion la

Review of physiotherapeutic methods used in patients with osteoporosis Joanna Chłystek, Julia Pietsch, Anna Golus, Agata Abramczyk, Mateusz Łakomski Department and Clinic of Geriatrics, Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz, University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Torun Abstract This article is a review of current literature about physiotherapeutic methods used in osteoporosis including physical activity and physical therapy. Osteoporosis is a systemic disease classified as a civilization disease, which is significantly associated with gender, age, low body weight, and lifestyle. Most often it concerns older adults and is also characteristic for postmenopausal women. The research presented in this article suggests the positive influence of physiotherapy (i.e. aerobic exercises and resistance training and also physical therapy) on osteogenic processes, bone mineral density, pain and decrease the risk of falls. With age, there is a gradual decrease in muscle mass and strength, and the use of strength training contributes to the slowdown of this process. It is also recommended in older people due to the increase in bone mass. An important element of planning this type of training, including the advancement of the person exercising is their lifestyle and the results obtained in strength tests. Due to the age, remember to exercise caution when doing this type of exercise and monitor the course of the training, e.g. by controlling the exercising heart rate or using the Borg scale. Avoid extreme strength and endurance exhaustion as it results in an increase in blood pressure. Strength training brings a number of benefits, but unpredictably planned and conducted also a number of threats. It is indicated in some disease entities, e.g. obesity

After the application of oncological treatment, it is important to implement physiotherapy, the basic component of which is kinesitherapy. It is not always possible to implement the rehabilitation procedure early enough, so you should take into account the time spent in bed before starting the exercise and assess the physical performance. Research shows that the best benefits are achieved by activity undertaken 5 days a week, lasting a minimum of 30 minutes, with moderate intensity. Physical activity in the advanced stage of cancer can positively affect the physical and mental well-being, the level of fatigue experienced, and even increase the independence of the patient. The aim of using palliative procedures is primarily to control persistent and severe pain, prevent the negative effects of immobilization and provide psychological support for the patient and family members. Numerous studies also indicate that exercise can also help to reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer, and increase the survival time from the moment of diagnosis. Researchers also confirming a favorable correlation between physical effort and the quality of life of patients suffering from cancer

Possibilities of physiotherapy in Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease

COPD is a progressive disease of the respiratory system that, if untreated, decreases the quality of life of patients. The treatment of COPD is mainly based on the use of bronchodilators and the use of appropriate exercise training. Numerous studies show that properly selected physical effort has a beneficial effect on improving exercise tolerance, spirometric indexes and reducing dyspnoea in patients. Treatments such as: postural drainage, inhalations, chest patting and learning an effective cough also contribute to improving the quality of life in patients suffering from COPD. The appearance of special NIV apparatus very effectively facilitates lung ventilation, and most importantly - allows the patient to support treatment at home
