    Emotion Recognition from Facial Expression Based on Fiducial Points Detection and using Neural Network

    The importance of emotion recognition lies in the role that emotions play in our everyday lives. Emotions have a strong relationship with our behavior. Thence, automatic emotion recognition, is to equip the machine of this human ability to analyze, and to understand the human emotional state, in order to anticipate his intentions from facial expression. In this paper, a new approach is proposed to enhance accuracy of emotion recognition from facial expression, which is based on input features deducted only from fiducial points. The proposed approach consists firstly on extracting 1176 dynamic features from image sequences that represent the proportions of euclidean distances between facial fiducial points in the first frame, and faicial fiducial points in the last frame. Secondly, a feature selection method is used to select only the most relevant features from them. Finally, the selected features are presented to a Neural Network (NN) classifier to classify facial expression input into emotion. The proposed approach has achieved an emotion recognition accuracy of 99% on the CK+ database, 84.7% on the Oulu-CASIA VIS database, and 93.8% on the JAFFE database

    Extramedullary plasmocytoma relapsing at differents sites: an unusual presentation

    Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) is an uncommon plasma cell neoplasm results from plasma cell proliferation and consists of monoclonal plasmacytic infiltration, without bone marrow involvement and any other systemic characteristics of multiple myeloma. EMP accounts for 3% of all plasma cell neoplasms and approximately 80% to 90% of EMP involve submucosa of the upper aerodigestive, while scrotal, dermis and retroperitoneal infiltration are very rare. There are no consensus guidelines for treatment, but EMP is highly radiosensitive, surgery may be considered for some sites, but 11 at 30% can progress in multiple myeloma. We report here an exceptional case of recurrent EMP in much localization. It's about a man 72 years old with initially testicular plasmocytoma who generalized the plasmacytic infiltration after 16 months in skin and progressively in mediastinal and retroperitoneal plasmacytoma, without any medullar and bone involvement.Pan African Medical Journal 2013; 14:3

    Management of acute myeloid leukemia in Covid 19 era

    The covid 19 pandemic has not spared patients with hematological malignancies. The hematologist community faces unprecedented challenge since the first identification of this new virus .in this study, we aim to describe characteristics and outcome of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) diagnosed with covid 19 infection at different states of the disease.A total of 16 COVID-19-infected patients with AML were included; 4 (25%) patients were male. Median age was 37 years. 7 patients had a favorable, 7 intermediate and 2 high risk AML. we noted no case of hemorrhagic syndrome and only 1 patient developed a deep vein thrombosis. treatment of AML was postponed in 11 patients. 4 patients attracted SARS-COV2 infection undergoing intensive myelosuppressive chemotherapy. 2 patients had severe events and only 1 patient died. Patients with AML may show favorable outcomes of COVID 19 infection even while treated with intensive chemotherapy. Coronavirus disease has change life overnight and impact the management of patients suffering from cancer in general and particularly patients with AML, we need more studies to better understand different aspects of this tiny microorganism and its impact on the management of these patients

    Secondary Thymoma among Adult Treated For Acute Lymphoblastic Lymphoma/Leukemia: Report of a Case and Review of the Literature

    BACKGROUND: Concomitant thymoma and T- lymphoblastic/leukaemia lymphoma is possible. Secondary thymoma after treatment for T-lymphoblastic/leukaemia lymphoma was also occasionally reported, although this is quite rare. CASE REPORT: We report a case of 44-year-old women with secondary thymoma after chemotherapy treatment for T Acute Lymphoblastic leukaemia/lymphoma. Diagnosis of lymphoblastic/leukaemia lymphoma was made in 2015 by morphological and histological study. The patient underwent Moroccan protocol for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (MARALL) from 2015 to 2017 and achieved complete remission. One year later, the patient developed an anterior mediastinal mass, relapse was suspected, but the surgical biopsy was performed and histological, the mass showed thymoma. CONCLUSION: At the time of diagnosis of thymoma for a patient treated for T-lymphoblastic/leukaemia lymphoma it is necessary to eliminate a relapse because the distinction between thymoma and T-lymphoblastic/leukaemia lymphoma is sometimes difficult, and the association is possible

    Pain Management in Children with Cancer: National Surveys of Practices and Perceptions in Morocco

    AIM: The aim of the study was to improve the quality of pain management in Moroccan pediatric oncology units, the Moroccan Society of Paediatric Haematology/Oncology initiated a national quality improvement project in 2014 with the support of the Lalla Salma Foundation for Prevention and Treatment of Cancer. METHODS: To assess the current situation of pain management in Moroccan pediatric oncology patients, two cross-sectional surveys were conducted, involving patient/parental proxies and health-care providers’. RESULTS: The first survey concerned 108 care providers from five institutions. The second survey covered 155 children with cancer from the five Moroccan pediatric oncology units. Among them, 145 reported suffering from pain, which patients/families attributed to the underlying cancer (n = 85), to procedures and treatment (n = 46), or to both the cancer and procedures/treatment (n = 19). Procedural pain was mainly related to lumbar puncture and bone marrow aspirate. The majority of patients/parents reported that pain negatively impacted their emotional, physical, and social functioning. The majority of parents requested further information and communication about pain management. CONCLUSION: Both health-care providers and families of children with cancer in Morocco report need for pain management improvement, including in institutional and educational practices. This current baseline data have informed the development of our ongoing project including continuing education, training, and practice policies development

    Effective yield surface of porous media with random overlapping identical spherical voids

    The present paper concerns a computational study of a three-dimensional (3D) unit cells with identical spherical voids in a von Mises matrix. The objective is to estimate the effective plastic flow surface of 3D microstructures. The work originality is to deal with identical spherical overlapping voids, covering a wide range of stress triaxiality ratios. The effective plastic flow surface is computed for nine distinct loadings on four distinct microstructures. The result indicates that the classical Gurson–Tvergaard–Needleman (GTN) model obtained using the Fritzen et al. [40] parameters, matches with our numerical simulations.     Physico-mechanical characterization of composite cementitious mortars modified by resin containing antifoam

    Nowadays, polymer-modified mortars (PMM) are generally used in the field of building as finishing materials. In general, The properties of the fresh and hardened PMC are affected by several factors that tend to interact each other: the nature of materials used as latex, cement and aggregates; the mix proportions (W/C, polymer/cement ratio, etc.); air content; type and amount of surfactants and anti-foaming; and curing methods. This present experimental work aims to study the influence of the rate of partial substitution of cement by resin containing anti-foaming on the properties of composite mortars in the fresh and hardened state particularly workability, tensile and compressive strengths at different times (3, 7 and 28 days) and module of static elasticity at 28 days. For that purpose, seven mortar combinations were developed from the various substitution percentages (0 to 15% by step of 2.5%). The treatment of the obtained results reveals that this partial replacement of the cement by resin improves, clearly, the workability of mortars and decreases the report W/C at the same time. Besides, the incorporation of resin affects significantly the mechanical strengths, and consequently, the addition by substitution of the polymer-latex improves, slightly, the mechanical behavior in tensile where the rates of increase range from 2.20% to 8.54% for replacement percentages of 2.5% and 15%, respectively. Furthermore, the compressive strengths of cement - resin composite mortars are lower compared to the reference mortar made with the cement Portland (CEM I). The notable decrease in compressive strength of polymer–modified mortars can be justified by the reduction of cementitious part, in hybrid materials, which is an indispensable and responsible part of improving compressive strength

    Pain assessment and management in the Moroccan haemophilia population: a prospective descriptive study

    For people with haemophilia (PwH) who live in developing countries, haemophilia continues to be a condition with serious medical and social consequences. In Morocco, the efforts of patient associations and medical teams have led to the creation of a national programme for haemophilia care since the end of 2012, and the country is no longer solely reliant on World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) donations for access to factor products. There is growing recognition of the impact of the pain experienced by PwH. To continue to improve treatment for PwH in Morocco, it is important to ensure that they are also able to manage haemophilia-related pain
