    Two-particle correlations in azimuthal angle and pseudorapidity in inelastic p + p interactions at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron

    Results on two-particle ΔηΔϕ correlations in inelastic p + p interactions at 20, 31, 40, 80, and 158 GeV/c are presented. The measurements were performed using the large acceptance NA61/SHINE hadron spectrometer at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. The data show structures which can be attributed mainly to effects of resonance decays, momentum conservation, and quantum statistics. The results are compared with the Epos and UrQMD models.ISSN:1434-6044ISSN:1434-605

    Minimal information for studies of extracellular vesicles (MISEV2023): From basic to advanced approaches

    Extracellular vesicles (EVs), through their complex cargo, can reflect the state of their cell of origin and change the functions and phenotypes of other cells. These features indicate strong biomarker and therapeutic potential and have generated broad interest, as evidenced by the steady year-on-year increase in the numbers of scientific publications about EVs. Important advances have been made in EV metrology and in understanding and applying EV biology. However, hurdles remain to realising the potential of EVs in domains ranging from basic biology to clinical applications due to challenges in EV nomenclature, separation from non-vesicular extracellular particles, characterisation and functional studies. To address the challenges and opportunities in this rapidly evolving field, the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV) updates its 'Minimal Information for Studies of Extracellular Vesicles', which was first published in 2014 and then in 2018 as MISEV2014 and MISEV2018, respectively. The goal of the current document, MISEV2023, is to provide researchers with an updated snapshot of available approaches and their advantages and limitations for production, separation and characterisation of EVs from multiple sources, including cell culture, body fluids and solid tissues. In addition to presenting the latest state of the art in basic principles of EV research, this document also covers advanced techniques and approaches that are currently expanding the boundaries of the field. MISEV2023 also includes new sections on EV release and uptake and a brief discussion of in vivo approaches to study EVs. Compiling feedback from ISEV expert task forces and more than 1000 researchers, this document conveys the current state of EV research to facilitate robust scientific discoveries and move the field forward even more rapidly

    An extended perspective of evolution teaching : A study of teachersÂŽ experiences and needs in multicultural schools

    The Swedish society has quite rapidly undergone a change from a more homogenic population to a more multicultural one. This leads to questions about how teachers handle the recent change. This study aims to investigate if upper-secondary school teachers in biology experience challenges when teaching about the evolutionary theory in a multicultural society, and if biology teachers consider teachers resources to be supportive enough to conduct evolutionary education according to the national curriculum. This study uses interviews as the data collection method and the respondents are situated in different contexts in the Swedish school to provide a width to the sample even though few respondents are included. The results of the study show that biology teachers experience challenges connected to multiculturality and evolution teaching. The teachers mentioned three prominent categories where the challenges were most noticeable: misunderstandings, resistance, and lack of previous knowledge. The multicultural aspect occurred in all the categories. The results also showed that teachers believed that the teacher resources covered the needs for planning the content of evolutionary teaching but not how to face the value conflicts that emerge due to a collision between students’ faith and the evolutionary theory. The conclusion of the study is that all respondents experience challenges connected to their teaching of the evolutionary theory in the context of multiculturality, but the occurrence and severity of the problems are unique. The problems are mostly connected to the emotional disruptions that studentsÂŽs experience when their beliefs and the evolutionary theory collides. The challenges result in a request for more resources for teachers to be able to face the students’ internal conflicts and to make the school more welcoming to students with different believes. Examples of resources that teachers might find helpful could be informative seminars and the development of simulations. Sverige har under en relativt kort tidsperiod gĂ„tt frĂ„n ett land med en mer homogen befolkning till en mer multikulturell. Denna studie Ă€mnar undersöka om gymnasielĂ€rare i biologi upplever utmaningar i samband med evolutionsundervisning i ett mĂ„ngkulturellt samhĂ€lle samt om biologilĂ€rarna upplever att det finns nog med lĂ€rarresurser till stöd för att genomföra en evolutionsundervisning enligt de nationella lĂ€roplanerna.     Byggstandarder & Miljöcertifieringar – En fallstudie pĂ„ LKF

    ProblemstĂ€llning: Hur hĂ„llbart bygger LKF? Syfte: Att bidra till framtagandet av en ny, mer hĂ„llbar byggstandard. Metod: Litteraturstudie, intervjuer samt jĂ€mförelse mellan miljöcertifieringar och LKF:s byggstandard genom ett ”standardprojekt”. Slutsatser: HĂ„llbart byggande har för denna rapport definierats som en balans mellan sociala-, ekonomiska-, ekologiska- och tekniska aspekter kopplat till byggprocessen, byggnaden och förvaltningen. HĂ„llbart byggande Ă€r komplext och det finns ingen tydlig grĂ€ns dĂ€r traditionellt byggande gĂ„r över till hĂ„llbart. Miljöcertifieringar och standarder kan vara till hjĂ€lp vid en bedömning men det gĂ€ller att stĂ€ndigt arbeta aktivt med hĂ„llbarhetsfrĂ„gan inom hela organisationen sĂ„vĂ€l som inom varje projekt. En nackdel med hĂ„llbart byggande Ă€r att det uppfattas som dyrare Ă€n traditionellt byggande, trots att studier visar att denna uppfattning saknar grund. Andra svĂ„righeter med hĂ„llbart byggande Ă€r att det krĂ€vs administration, kunskap och resurser. Fördelar Ă€r de olika vinster som erhĂ„lls inom de olika hĂ„llbarhetsaspekterna. LKF:s byggstandard, genom deras standardprojekt Fossilen, uppfyller ingendera av miljöcertifieringarna FEBY12 passivhus, Miljöbyggnad silver eller Svanen. FrĂ€mst uppfylls inte energi- och materialkrav. Detta betyder dock inte nödvĂ€ndigtvis att det kommunala fastighetsbolaget inte bygger hĂ„llbart. HĂ„llbart byggande handlar om balansering och optimering inom omrĂ„dena socialt, ekonomiskt, ekologiskt och tekniskt. Inom samtliga omrĂ„den gör LKF anstrĂ€ngningar för att uppnĂ„ hĂ„llbarhet. LKF anses dock kunna göra mer inom energi- och material utan att inskrĂ€nka pĂ„ hĂ„llbarhetsarbetet i stort. FrĂ„n och med Ă„r 2021 ska samtliga nya byggnader uppfylla krav enligt nĂ€ra-nollenergibyggnader. Detta enligt ett EU-direktiv vilket innebĂ€r att Sverige, som medlemsland, omfattas av kravet. Direktivet torde leda till kraftigt sĂ€nkta energigrĂ€nser i BBR:s krav och sĂ„ledes Ă€ven i miljöcertifieringskrav. Införandet av krav relaterade till sjĂ€lva byggprocessen samt till förvaltningsskedet sker i den nya versionen av Miljöbyggnad som Ă€r under utveckling. Denna trend kan ocksĂ„ komma att ses hos framför allt Svanen, men kanske Ă€ven hos FEBY12.Problem: How sustainable does LKF build? Purpose: To contribute to a new construction standard that is more sustainable than the present one. Method: Litterature study, interviews and comparison of environmental assessments and LKF’s construction standard that is represented by a ’standard project’. Conclusions: Sustainable construction has for this report been defined as a balance between social, economic, biophysical and technical aspects related to the building process, the building and the real estate management. Sustainable construction is complex and there’s no clear line where conventional construction turns into sustainable. Environmental assessments and standards can be helpful when evaluating sustainability but it is necessary to continuously work with sustainability within the whole organization as well as within projects. Sustainable construction has the disadvantage of being perceived as more expensive than conventional construction, even though studies show that this perception is wrong. Other disadvantages related to sustainable construction are that it requires administration, knowledge and resources. The construction standard of LKF, through their standard project ”Fossilen”, doesn’t fulfill any of the environmental assessments ”FEBY12 passivhus”, ”Miljöbyggnad silver” or ”Svanen”. Foremost it’s the energy and material requirements that are not met. This does not however necessarily mean that the municipal real estate concern isn’t implementing sustainable construction. Sustainable construction is about balancing and optimizing the areas social, economic, biophysical and technical. LKF is making efforts within each one of these areas in order to achieve sustainability, although they are considered to be able to make further efforts within energy and material without causing impact on the sustainability as a whole. As of 2021, all new buildings are to be constructed as nearly zero energy buildings. This according to an EU directive, which means that Sweden as a member of EU is affected by the demand. The directive should result in much lower energy demands in Boverket’s Building Regulations – BBR – thus also in environmental assessments. In the new version of ”Miljöbyggnad”, which is under development, demands related to the building process as well as the real estate management are introduced. This trend might also appear in the other environmental assessments, in particular ”Svanen” but perhaps also in ”FEBY12”.Hur hĂ„llbart bygger det kommunala fastighetsbolaget i Lunds kommun, LKF? En jĂ€mförelse mellan LKF:s byggstandard och miljöcertifieringar görs för att ta reda pĂ„ detta. Dessutom tas LKF:s hĂ„llbarhetsarbete i stor hĂ€nsyn till. Resultatet Ă€r tĂ€nkt att bidra till en ny, mer hĂ„llbar byggstandard och i lĂ€ngden till en mer hĂ„llbar bebyggd miljö i Lunds kommun
