Approximation of the Whole Pareto-Optimal Set for the Vector Optimization Problem

    Get PDF
In multi objective optimization problems several objective functions have to be minimized simultaneously. In this work, we present a new computational method for the numerical solution of the linearly constrained, convex multi objective optimization problem. We propose some technique to find joint decreasing direction for unconstrained and linearly constrained case as well. Based on these results we introduce a method using subdivision technique to approximate the whole Pareto-optimal set of the linearly constrained, convex multi objective optimization problem. Finally, we illustrate computations of our algorithm by solving the Markowitz-model on real data

Statistical education needs and experiences in the Hungarian central statistical office

    Get PDF
The statistical knowledge of official statisticians is very heterogeneous, there is no solid standard basic knowledge in statistics. This paper summarises the needs from statistical education, from the perspective of official statistics, based on experience gathered at the Hungarian Central Statistical Office. There are key areas where official statistics misses general knowledge and cooperation of official statistics and the teachers of statistics is absolutely necessary. Official statisticians need sophisticated thinking in understanding and translating real social and economic phenomena into statistical concepts, a general overview of the statistical business process model, and special knowledge in certain tasks (like sampling, seasonal adjustment) and/or in some subject matter areas. A system of courses is offered, some examples (e.g. EMOS, ESTP) are mentioned in the paper

Digitalization against the shadow economy: evidence on the role of company size

    Get PDF
Online cash registers (OCRs) are important tools for reducing the size of the shadow economy. This paper analyzes the impact on reported turnover and tax liability of introducing OCRs in Hungary using a fixed-effects panel and event study model. We identify strong size-related heterogeneity in the retail and the accommodation and food services sectors: smaller companies increased their reported turnover more than larger ones. Since large companies pay the dominant part of value-added tax, the effects on the payment of this tax were mitigated. We find significant spillover effects in both sectors, which are slightly stronger among larger companies
