In situ XRF and gamma ray spectrometer for Mars sample return mission
A combined in situ X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and passive gamma ray spectrometer instrument is proposed for the chemical elemental analysis of various Martian surfaces and samples. The combined instrument can be carried on board a rover. The passive gamma ray or the neutron excited gamma ray system would be used to determine the elemental composition of the Martian surface while the rover is in motion. The XRF system would be used to perform analysis either on the Martian surface or on collected samples when the rover is stationary. The latter function is important both in cataloging the collected samples and in the selection of samples to be returned to earth. For both systems, data accumulation time would be on the order of 30 minutes. No sample preparation would be necessary
Analysis of OdorâCausing VOCs and SemiâVOCs Associated with Particulate Matter in Swine Barns Using SPMEâGCâMSâOlfactometry
Swine operations can affect air quality by emissions of odor, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other gases, and particulate matter (PM). Particulate matter has been proposed to be an important pathway for carrying odor. However, little is known about the odorâVOCsâPM interactions. In this research, continuous PM sampling was conducted simultaneously with three collocated TEOM analyzers inside a 1000âhead swine finish barn located in central Iowa. Each TEOM (tapered element oscillating microbalance) was fitted with total suspended particulate (TSP), PMâ10, PMâ2.5 and PMâ1 preseparators. Used filters were stored in 40 mL vials and transported to the laboratory. VOCs adsorbedâabsorbed to dust were allowed to equilibrate with vial headspace. Solidâphase microextraction (SPME) Carboxenâpolydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) 85âÎŒm fibers were used to extract VOCs. Simultaneous chemical and olfactometry analyses of VOCs and odor associated with swine PM were completed using a gas chromatographyâmassâolfactometry (GCâMSâO) system. Fifty VOCs categorized into nine chemical function groups were identified and confirmed with standards. Five of them are classified as hazardous air pollutants. VOCs were characterized with a wide range of molecular weight, boiling points, vapor pressures, water solubilities, odor detection thresholds, and atmospheric reactivities. All characteristic swine VOCs and odorants were present in PM and their abundance was proportional to PM size. However, the majority of VOCs and characteristic swine odorants were preferentially bound to smallerâsize PM. The findings indicate that a significant fraction of swine odor can be carried by PM. Research of the effects of PM control on swine odor mitigation is warranted

Common misdiagnosis of a common neurological disorder : how are we misdiagnosing essential tremor?
Background: As a common neurological disorder, the diagnosis of essential tremor (ET) is considered routine. Despite this, previous work suggests that misdiagnoses may be common. Among other things, these misdiagnoses can lead to treatment errors. Objectives: To estimate how often other tremor disorders are misdiagnosed as ET and to identify factors that increase the odds of misdiagnosing ET and to precisely quantify the extent to which they do so. Design: Seventy-one consecutive patients underwent an evaluation at the Neurological Institute of New York, New York, between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2005; these patients had a preevaluation diagnosis of ET. The criteria for ET were adapted from the consensus statement of the Movement Disorder Society. Results: Twenty-six patients (37%) were misdiagnosed as having ET ("false ET"). Their true diagnoses were Parkinson disease (11 patients [15%]), dystonia (6 patients [8%]), Parkinson disease with ET (5 patients [7%]), and other disorders (4 patients [6%]). Factors associated with misdiagnosed ET included unilateral arm tremor (odds ratio, 10.5; 95% confidence interval, 1.2-95.4; P=.02), spooning of the hands and other dystonic postures (odds ratio, 16.3; 95% confidence interval, 4.0-66.4; P<.001), and other unusual features (isolated thumb tremor, isolated leg tremor, and nonrhythmic tremor) (odds ratio, 49.4; 95% confidence interval, 2.7-895.0; P<.001). Conclusions: About 1 in 3 patients with tremor was misdiagnosed as having ET, with the most frequent false diagnoses being Parkinson disease and dystonia. Several factors that increased the odds of misdiagnosing ET were identified. These factors could be incorporated into improved diagnostic algorithms
Characterization of Volatile Organic Compounds and Odorants Associated with Swine Barn Particulate Matter Using Solid-Phase Microextraction and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry-Olfactometry

Radiation-associated angiosarcoma after autologous breast reconstruction: report of two cases in a plastic surgery unit
Radiation-associated breast angiosarcoma is a rare diagnosis but is commonly reported. Angiosarcoma occurring in non-breast tissue in breasts that have been reconstructed with autologous tissue following mastectomy is extremely rare. In our unit, we have managed two patients with angiosarcoma arising in non-breast tissue autologous reconstructions. Our report emphasises that any tissue treated with radiotherapyâthat is, the residual mastectomy skin flaps or non-breast tissue autologous reconstructionsâare at a risk of secondary angiosarcoma. We also discuss recommended surgical management, surveillance and genetic testing.

Financial rogue waves
The financial rogue waves are reported analytically in the nonlinear option
pricing model due to Ivancevic, which is nonlinear wave alternative of the
Black-Scholes model. These solutions may be used to describe the possible
physical mechanisms for rogue wave phenomenon in financial markets and related
fields.Comment: 4 papges, 2 figures, Final version accepted in Commun. Theor. Phys.,
