In this short note, we repeat the calculations the jumps for the specific heat Cσxy_{\sigma_{xy}}, the elastic compliance Sxyxyσxy_{xyxy}^{\sigma_{xy}} and the thermal expansion ασxy\alpha_{\sigma_{xy}} due to a shear stress σxy\sigma_{xy} in the basal plane of Sr2RuO4Sr_2RuO_4. Henceforth we clarify some issues regarding the elastic theoretical framework suitable to explain the sound speed experiments of Lupien et al. (2001,2002), and partially the strain experiments of Hicks et al. (2014), and Steppke et al. (2016) in strontium ruthenate. We continue to propose that the discontinuity in the elastic constant Cxyxy_{xyxy} of this tetragonal crystal gives unambiguous experimental evidence that the superconducting order parameter Ψ\Psi has two components with a broken time-reversal symmetry state, and that the γ\gamma band couples the anisotropic electron-phonon interaction to the [xy][xy] in-plane shear stress according to Walker and collaborators [4] and [3]. Some importants words about the roll of the spin equal to one for the transversal phonons are added in the conclusion following Levine [34].Comment: 11 pages, for section 5: added figure 2 and figure 3 replaced. ObjectiveTo analyze clinical data related to preterm infants and identify risk factors for metabolic bone disease of prematurity (MBDP).MethodsThis study involved 856 newborns with a gestational age of less than 37 weeks or a weight of less than 1,500g at the Second Hospital of Jilin University. Multifactorial analysis was performed using logistic regression models to explore the risk factors for MBDP. Linear regression was used to investigate the factors affecting the time of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) exceedance and the peak value of ALP in the MBDP group.ResultsIn the MBDP group, ALP excesses occurred in preterm infants at an average of 39.33 days after birth, and the mean value of peak ALP was 691.41 IU/L. Parenteral nutrition and the application of assisted ventilation were independent risk factors for MBDP, with ORs of 1.02 and 1.03 respectively. Gestational age was found to be a protective factor for earlier time of onset of ALP exceedance (β = 2.24,) and the increase in the peak value of ALP (β = −16.30).ConclusionParenteral nutrition and the application of assisted ventilation are independent risk factors for MBDP. Gestational age is a major factor influencing the time of onset of ALP exceedance and the peak value of ALP in infants with MBDP

In the title complex, [Ni(NCS)2(C7H9NO)2], the NiII atom is in a distorted octahedral coordination environment defined by two N atoms of the two thiocyanate ions and by the N and O atoms of the two chelating 2-(pyridin-2-yl)ethanol ligands. The complex molecule is located around a crystallographic inversion center. In the crystal, molecules are connected into a two-dimensional polymeric structure parallel to (100) by O—H⋯S hydrogen bonds

Utility-Based Joint Routing, Network Coding, and Power Control for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

    Get PDF
Energy saving and high delivery reliability are two essential metrics in wireless ad hoc networks. In this paper, we propose a joint power control and network coding (PCNC) scheme which regulates the transmission power to reduce the overall energy usage and uses network coding to improve reliability by reducing the number of packet retransmissions. To argue for PCNC scheme, we investigate both unicast and multicast routing scenarios. To evaluate routing optimality, we adopt expected utility as a metric, which integrates energy cost, reliability, and benefit value. Based on the expected utility, we explore the optimality in both unicast and multicast routing. For unicast routing, we propose an optimal algorithm. We show the NP-hardness of multicast routing problem, and also design a heuristic solution. Results from simulations demonstrate that PCNC improves the performance in terms of expected utility compared with existing techniques

Direct Observation of Enhanced Raman Scattering on Nano-Sized ZrO2 Substrate: Charge-Transfer Contribution

    Get PDF
Direct observation of the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of molecules adsorbed on nano-sized zirconia (ZrO2) substrates was first reported without the need for the addition of metal particles. It was found that ZrO2 nanoparticles can exhibit unprecedented Raman signal enhancements on the order of 103 for the probe molecule 4-mercaptobenzoic acid (4-MBA). The dramatic effect of the calcination temperature on the ZrO2 nanoparticles was also investigated. The ZrO2 nanoparticles with the particle diameter of 10.5 nm, which were prepared by calcination at a temperature of 500°C, have the highest SERS activity. A comparison between the experimental and calculation results indicates that charge transfer (CT) effects dominate the surface enhancement. The plentiful surface state of ZrO2 active substrate that is beneficial to CT resonance occurs between molecules and ZrO2 to produce a SERS effect. The CT process depends, to a large extent, on the intrinsic properties of the modifying molecules and the surface properties of the ZrO2. This is a new SERS phenomenon for ZrO2 that will expand the application of ZrO2 to microanalysis and is beneficial for studying the basic properties of both ZrO2 and SERS

    Preparation and In Vitro

For preventing premature drug release in neutral environment and avoiding them being trapped into the endosomal/lysosomal system, we developed a novel iron silicate@liposome hybrid (ILH) formulation, which can be used as a carrier to transport doxorubicin (DOX) in a pH-sensitive manner and to escape from endosomal/lysosomal trapping through “proton-sponge” effect. The high intensity of photoacoustic signal from in vitro photoacoustic imaging (PAI) experiments suggests that it is a promising candidate for PAI agent, providing the potential for simultaneously bioimaging and cancer-targeting drug delivery. Cytotoxicity of our formulation toward tumor cells was remarkably higher than free DOX (48.4±7.7% and 26.2±8.4%, P<0.001). Confocal laser scanning microscopy experiments showed the enhanced transportation and enrichment process of DOX in QSG-7703 cells. Taking together, we developed an easy approach to construct a multifunctional anticancer drug delivery/imaging system with a potency as a PAI agent. The strategy of combining drug carrier and imaging agent is an emerging platform for further construction of nanoparticle and may play a significant role in cancer therapy and diagnosis

Association between Dietary Patterns and Precocious Puberty in Children: A Population-Based Study

Objective. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between dietary patterns and precocious puberty among Shanghai children. Methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted among Shanghai children by multistage stratified cluster random sampling in June 2014. Diet was assessed using a simplified food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Height, weight, and Tanner stages of breast development, pubic hair growth, and testicular volume were carefully measured. Exploratory factor analysis was used to identify dietary patterns, and logistic regression analysis was used to assess the association between dietary patterns and precocious puberty. Results. Three distinct dietary patterns, “traditional diet,” “unhealthy diet,” and “protein diet,” were established. Neither the “traditional diet” pattern nor the “protein diet” pattern showed any association with precocious puberty, taking gender, BMI, and adjustment factors into consideration. The “unhealthy diet” pattern was significantly positively associated with precocious puberty in both boys (OR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.02–1.51) and girls (OR = 1.31, 95% CI = 1.10–1.56). The relationship remained positive only for girls (OR = 1.25, 95% CI = 1.04–1.49) after adjustment for age and BMI but statistically nonsignificant after further adjustment for socioeconomic factors in both boys and girls. Conclusions. Dietary patterns were found to be related to precocious puberty among Shanghai children

Plastid structure and carotenogenic gene expression in red- and white-fleshed loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) fruits

Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.) can be sorted into red- and white-fleshed cultivars. The flesh of Luoyangqing (LYQ, red-fleshed) appears red-orange because of a high content of carotenoids while the flesh of Baisha (BS, white-fleshed) appears ivory white due to a lack of carotenoid accumulation. The carotenoid content in the peel and flesh of LYQ was approximately 68 μg g−1 and 13 μg g−1 fresh weight (FW), respectively, and for BS 19 μg g−1 and 0.27 μg g−1 FW. The mRNA levels of 15 carotenogenesis-related genes were analysed during fruit development and ripening. After the breaker stage (S4), the mRNA levels of phytoene synthase 1 (PSY1) and chromoplast-specific lycopene β-cyclase (CYCB) were higher in the peel, and CYCB and β-carotene hydroxylase (BCH) mRNAs were higher in the flesh of LYQ, compared with BS. Plastid morphogenesis during fruit ripening was also studied. The ultrastructure of plastids in the peel of BS changed less than in LYQ during fruit development. Two different chromoplast shapes were observed in the cells of LYQ peel and flesh at the fully ripe stage. Carotenoids were incorporated in the globules in chromoplasts of LYQ and BS peel but were in a crystalline form in the chromoplasts of LYQ flesh. However, no chromoplast structure was found in the cells of fully ripe BS fruit flesh. The mRNA level of plastid lipid-associated protein (PAP) in the peel and flesh of LYQ was over five times higher than in BS peel and flesh. In conclusion, the lower carotenoid content in BS fruit was associated with the lower mRNA levels of PSY1, CYCB, and BCH; however, the failure to develop normal chromoplasts in BS flesh is the most convincing explanation for the lack of carotenoid accumulation. The expression of PAP was well correlated with chromoplast numbers and carotenoid accumulation, suggesting its possible role in chromoplast biogenesis or interconversion of loquat fruit
