Kodaira-Spencer deformation of complex structures and Lagrangian field theory

In complete analogy with the Beltrami parametrization of complex structures on a (compact) Riemann surface, we use in this paper the Kodaira-Spencer deformation theory of complex structures on a (compact) complex manifold of higher dimension. According to the Newlander-Nirenberg theorem, a smooth change of local complex coordinates can be implemented with respect to an integrable complex structure parametrized by a Beltrami differential. The question of constructing a local field theory on a complex compact manifold is addressed and the action of smooth diffeomorphisms is studied in the BRS algebraic approach. The BRS cohomology for the diffeomorphisms gives rise to generalized Gel'fand-Fuchs cocycles provided that the Kodaira-Spencer integrability condition is satisfied. The diffeomorphism anomaly is computed and turns out to be holomorphically split as in the bidimensional Lagrangian conformal models. Moreover, its algebraic structure is much more complicated than the one proposed in a quite recent paper hep-th/9606082 (Nucl. Phys. B484 (1997) 196).Comment: LaTeX, 30 pages, no figure. Non Commutative Coordinates on Riemann Surfaces

Partly supported by the Region PACA and INFN. To be published in Nucl. Phys. BWe show that the definition of a projective coordinate frame within a Laguerre-Forsyth scheme, leads to the extension of the factorized diffeomorphism algebra. The quantum improvement of this symmetry can be performed only if these coordinates switch, at the quantum level, into a non-commutative regime

Assessing the impacts and feasibility of emissions reduction scenarios in the Po Valley

This study is focused on a pivotal objective: enhancing air quality and attaining pollutant concentrations in accordance with WHO guidelines. The study extensively evaluates the feasibility of reducing emissions, specifically targeting an 80% decrease in SOX, NOX, PM, NH3, and NMVOC emissions within a limited timeframe. Despite notable emission curtailments of 50% and 80%, the research reveals that recommended pollutant levels are unlikely to be met across most areas of the Po Valley region. Even when implementing the finest available technologies across various sectors, particularly within the Lombardia region, this goal remains unattainable without simultaneous reductions in activity levels. This involves diminishing factors like vehicle miles traveled, energy consumption for heating, and industrial, agricultural, and livestock production. Overall, achieving improved conforming to the new AQG limits is a multifaceted endeavor involving numerous stakeholders and diverse strategies. Successful adherence to Air Quality limits mandates the implementation of Source-Specific emissions standards at the EU level, alignment of the National Emission Reduction Directive with limits specified in the Air Quality Directive, and the formulation of comprehensive Air Quality Plans at national, regional, and local tiers

Risk stratification of patients with SARS-CoV-2 by tissue factor expression in circulating extracellular vesicles

Inflammatory response following SARS-CoV-2 infection results in substantial increase of amounts of intravascular pro-coagulant extracellular vesicles (EVs) expressing tissue factor (CD142) on their surface. CD142-EV turned out to be useful as diagnostic biomarker in COVID-19 patients. Here we aimed at studying the prognostic capacity of CD142-EV in SARS-CoV-2 infection. Expression of CD142-EV was evaluated in 261 subjects admitted to hospital for pneumonia and with a positive molecular test for SARS-CoV-2. The study population consisted of a discovery cohort of selected patients (n = 60) and an independent validation cohort including unselected consecutive enrolled patients (n = 201). CD142-EV levels were correlated with post-hospitalization course of the disease and compared to the clinically available 4C Mortality Score as referral. CD142-EV showed a reliable performance to predict patient prognosis in the discovery cohort (AUC = 0.906) with an accuracy of 81.7%, that was confirmed in the validation cohort (AUC = 0.736). Kaplan-Meier curves highlighted a high discrimination power in unselected subjects with CD142-EV being able to stratify the majority of patients according to their prognosis. We obtained a comparable accuracy, being not inferior in terms of prediction of patients' prognosis and risk of mortality, with 4C Mortality Score. The expression of surface vesicular CD142 and its reliability as prognostic marker was technically validated using different immunocapture strategies and assays. The detection of CD142 on EV surface gains considerable interest as risk stratification tool to support clinical decision making in COVID-19
