The Demand for High-skilled Worker and Immigration Policy

This paper provides a descriptive analysis of the demand for high-skilled workers using a new firm data set, the IZA International Employer Survey 2000. Our results suggest that while workers from EU-countries are mainly complements to domestic high-skilled workers, workers from non-EU countries are hired because of a shortage of high-skilled labour. The paper, furthermore, provides a short description of recent German policy initiatives regarding the temporary immigration of high-skilled labour. In view of our descriptive results these temporary immigration policies seem, however, to satisfy only partly the demand of firms interested in recruiting foreign high-skilled workers. Invariant Measures for Hybrid Stochastic Systems

In this paper, we seek to understand the behavior of dynamical systems that are perturbed by a parameter that changes discretely in time. If we impose certain conditions, we can study certain embedded systems within a hybrid system as time-homogeneous Markov processes. In particular, we prove the existence of invariant measures for each embedded system and relate the invariant measures for the various systems through the flow. Atomic position localization via dual measurement

We study localization of atomic position when a three-level atom interacts with a quantized standing-wave field in the Ramsey interferometer setup. Both the field quadrature amplitude and the atomic internal state are measured to obtain the atomic position information. It is found that this dual measurement scheme produces an interference pattern superimposed on a diffraction-like pattern in the atomic position distribution, where the former pattern originates from the state-selective measurement and the latter from the field measurement. The present scheme results in a better resolution in the position localization than the field-alone measurement schemes. We also discuss the measurement-correlated mechanical action of the standing-wave field on the atom in the light of Popper's test.Comment: 6.5 pages and 5 figure

Liquiditätsmodellierung von Kreditzusagen (term facilities and revolver)

This paper discusses the management of loan commitments (Kreditzusagen). First, we elaborate on the necessary steps to efficiently manage liquidity facilities. In particular, the drawdown pattern of single commitments and a portfolio of such commitments have to be modelled. Based on the drawdown model, internal transfer prices for loan commitments can be derived. In the context of an industry project, we describe how to set up and to calibrate drawdown models for several types of commitments in practise. Philosophieren im Unterricht Deutsch als Fremdsprache

Im Kontext des kulturwissenschaftlich orientierten Paradigmenwechsels in Lehre und Forschung des DaF-Landeskundeunterrichts untersucht die Studie das Potenzial der Philosophie bzw. des Philosophierens für den Fachbereich. Als interdisziplinärer Beitrag für die kultur-wissenschaftlich erneuerte Landeskunde wird Philosophieren im DaF-Unterricht theoretisch hergeleitet, didaktisch eingeordnet und in Form eines Unterrichtsvorschlags exemplarisch vorgestellt. Die Untersuchung stellt nicht nur heraus, dass die Philosophie einen hohen Stellenwert für die Kultur der deutschsprachigen Länder aufweist, sondern zeigt auch auf, dass gerade in der aktuellen Theoriediskussion des Faches DaF vielfältige Bezüge zur Philosophie, insbesondere zur Kulturphilosophie, zu finden sind. Einen Schwerpunkt der Studie bildet folgerichtig die Auseinandersetzung mit den Begriffen der Landeskunde, der Kultur und der Diskursivität. Philosophieren in DaF wird einerseits als neues Konzept verstanden, das neben und mit anderen modernen Ansätzen der Landeskunde wie den „Erinnerungsorten“ eingesetzt werden kann, andererseits als Unterrichtsprinzip, das mittels Problemorientierung, Diskursivität, (Selbst)Reflexivität und einer elaborierten Kultur des Fragens zum kulturellen Lernen im DaF-Unterricht beitragen kann. Ausgehend von der durch Studien untermauerten These, dass Philosophieren – in heterogenen Formen und auf unterschiedlichen Stufen – auch und gerade in der Welt von heute zur conditio humana gehört, wird gezeigt, dass und wie sich Philosophieren mit DaF-Lernenden umsetzen lässt. Dabei wird auf die Praxiserprobung mit DaF-Lernenden in unterschiedlichen Lehr- und Lernkontexten eingegangen
