Operational Aspects of Electric Vehicles from Car-Sharing Systems
The article was dedicated to the topic of energy consumption of driving cars equipped with an electric motor. Due to the emerging demands for the excessive use of energy by vehicles (including car-sharing system vehicles), the authors carried out research to determine factors that affect the energy consumption. Due to the occurrence of a research gap related to the lack of reliable scientific information regarding real electricity consumption by vehicles used in car-sharing systems, the authors attempted to determine these values based on the proposed research experiment. The purpose of the research was to identify factors that increase energy consumption while driving in the case of car-sharing systems and developing recommendations for users of car-sharing systems and system operators in relation to energy consumption. Based on data received from car-sharing system operators and to their demands that users move cars uneconomically and use too much energy, the authors performed a scientific experiment based on Hartley&rsquo
s plan. The authors made journeys with electric cars from car-sharing (measurements) in order to compare real consumption with data obtained from operators. As a result, the authors developed a list of factors that negatively affect the energy consumption of electric vehicles from car-sharing systems. As conclusion, a number of recommendations were developed for car-sharing system operators on how to manage their systems to reduce excessive energy consumption in electric vehicles.

Sinoatrial Wenckebach periodicity as an independent marker for the development of high-degree sinoatrial exit block
Background: The present study of patients with Wenckebach-type second-degree sinoatrial
block (W-block) evaluated the probability of the development of a more advanced grade of
sinoatrial block. Data on the clinical significance of W-block are limited. It is unknown
whether W-block predicts a more advanced grade of sinoatrial block.
Methods: Standard ECGs of 412 patients with symptoms that might have been related to
cardiac arrhythmias were reviewed for the presence of W-block. In the initial ECG W-block
occurred in 29. During the follow-up period of 62 ± 35 months the main end-point was the first
episode of type II second-degree sinoatrial block. An additional end-point was the occurrence of
a sinus pause greater than 3 s or the development of type II second-degree sinoatrial block.
Results: Of the 29 patients with W-block initially, 6 (20.7%) developed higher grade sinoatrial
block, and sinoatrial arrhythmic events occurred in 9 (31%). In the 383 patients without
W-block subsequent episodes of higher grade sinoatrial block occurred in 14 (3.7%) and sinoatrial
arrhythmic events in 28 (7.3%). A multivariate Cox analysis identified W-block as an independent
marker for developing type II second-degree sinoatrial block (HR = 3.72, 95% CI 1.39-9.99)
and for the occurrence of sinoatrial arrhythmic events (HR 3.01, 95% CI 1.37-6.58).
Conclusions: In patients with symptoms that might be caused by cardiac arrhythmias the
presence of W-block in a standard ECG indicates a high probability of developing a more
advanced grade of sinoatrial block. (Cardiol J 2007; 14: 391-395

Birth body length, birth body weight and birth head circumference in neonates born in a single centre between 2011 and 2016
Objectives: Access to updated and accurate standards for local populations is important for the interpretation of body measurements in neonates and may have an impact on the doctor’s recommendations for monitoring early childhood development. Study aim: to present individual mean values for the most prevalent body measurements (i.e. birth body length (BBL), birth body weight (BBW) and birth head circumference (BHC)) in neonates and compare them to the duration of pregnancy. Material and methods: The measurements (BBL, BBW and BHC) were collected and analyzed from over 27,000 neonates born in a single center. All women with single pregnancies with gestation ranging from 33 to 42 weeks were included in the study. Results: Mean values and statistically significant standard deviation values from population standards of BBL, BBW, and BHC were evaluated for neonates that were born between the 33rd and 42nd week of gestation. Analysis was conducted for the lower limit (10th percentile), average (50th percentile) and upper limit (90th percentile). Conclusions: This was the first time in Polish literature when population standards were presented for three body measurements of neonates. With the size of the cohort, these standards can be successfully implemented into routine clinical practice, especially for screening children with body size deficits.
Intragenomic diversity of Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. trifolii clover nodule isolates
BACKGROUND: Soil bacteria from the genus Rhizobium are characterized by a complex genomic architecture comprising chromosome and large plasmids. Genes responsible for symbiotic interactions with legumes are usually located on one of the plasmids, named the symbiotic plasmid (pSym). The plasmids have a great impact not only on the metabolic potential of rhizobia but also underlie genome rearrangements and plasticity. RESULTS: Here, we analyzed the distribution and sequence variability of markers located on chromosomes and extrachromosomal replicons of Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. trifolii strains originating from nodules of clover grown in the same site in cultivated soil. First, on the basis of sequence similarity of repA and repC replication genes to the respective counterparts of chromids reported in R. leguminosarum bv. viciae 3841 and R. etli CFN42, chromid-like replicons were distinguished from the pool of plasmids of the nodule isolates studied. Next, variability of the gene content was analyzed in the different genome compartments, i.e., the chromosome, chromid-like and 'other plasmids'. The stable and unstable chromosomal and plasmid genes were detected on the basis of hybridization data. Displacement of a few unstable genes between the chromosome, chromid-like and 'other plasmids', as well as loss of some markers was observed in the sampled strains. Analyses of chosen gene sequences allowed estimation of the degree of their adaptation to the three genome compartments as well as to the host. CONCLUSIONS: Our results showed that differences in distribution and sequence divergence of plasmid and chromosomal genes can be detected even within a small group of clover nodule isolates recovered from clovers grown at the same site. Substantial divergence of genome organization could be detected especially taking into account the content of extrachromosomal DNA. Despite the high variability concerning the number and size of plasmids among the studied strains, conservation of the location as well as dynamic distribution of the individual genes (especially replication genes) of a particular genome compartment were demonstrated. The sequence divergence of particular genes may be affected by their location in the given genome compartment. The 'other plasmid' genes are less adapted to the host genome than the chromosome and chromid-like genes
Blok zatokowo-przedsionkowy typu periodyki Wenckebacha jako niezależny wskaźnik prognostyczny wystąpienia wysokiego stopnia zatokowo-przedsionkowego bloku wyjścia
Wstęp: W przedstawianym badaniu, obejmującym pacjentów z blokiem zatokowo-przedsionkowym
drugiego stopnia typu periodyki Wenckebacha (dalej: blok Wenckebacha), oceniano prawdopodobieństwo
wystąpienia bardziej zaawansowanego bloku zatokowo-przedsionkowego. Dane
on przewidywać wystąpienie bardziej zaawansowanego bloku zatokowo-przedsionkowego.
Metody: Przeanalizowano występowanie bloku Wenckebacha w standardowych elektrokardiogramach
stopnia typu II. Dodatkowym ocenianym punktem końcowym było wystąpienie pauzy zatokowej
trwającej dłużej niż 3 s lub bloku zatokowo-przedsionkowego drugiego stopnia typu II.
Wyniki: Spośród 29 pacjentów, u których początkowo stwierdzano blok Wenckebacha, wyższego
stopnia blok zatokowo-przedsionkowy wystąpił u 6 osób (20,7%), a u 9 chorych (31%)
stopnia typu II. W wielozmiennej analizie Coxa blok Wenckebacha był niezależnym
wskaźnikiem prognostycznym wystąpienia bloku zatokowo-przedsionkowego drugiego stopnia
typu II (HR 3,72; 95% CI 1,39-9,99) oraz pauzy zatokowej lub bloku zatokowo-przedsionkowego
drugiego stopnia typu II (HR 3,01; 95% CI 1,37-6,58).
Wnioski: U pacjentów z objawami klinicznymi, które mogą wynikać z zaburzeń rytmu serca,
obecność bloku Wenckebacha w standardowym EKG wskazuje na duże prawdopodobieństwo
wystąpienia bardziej zaawansowanego bloku zatokowo-przedsionkowego. (Folia Cardiologica

New kind of polymer materials based on selected complexing star-shaped polyethers
In today’s analytical trends, there is an ever-increasing importance of polymeric materials for low molecular weight compounds including amines and drugs because they can act as carriers or capture amines or drugs. The use of this type of materials will allow the development of modern materials for the chromatographic column beds and the substrates of selective sensors. Moreover, these kinds of materials could be used as a drug carrier. Therefore, the aim of this study is presenting the synthesis and complexing properties of star-shaped oxiranes as a new sensor for the selective complexation of low molecular weight compounds. Propylene oxide and selected oxirane monomers with carbazolyl in the substituent were selected as the monomers in this case and tetrahydrofuran as its solvent. The obtained polymer structures were characterized using the MALDI-TOF. It was found that in the initiation step potassium hydride deprotonates the monomer molecule and takes also part in the nucleophilic substitution. The resulting polymeric material preferably cross-linked with selected di-oxiranes (1,2,7,8-diepoksyoktan in respect ratio 3:1 according to active center) was then used as a stationary phase in the column and thin layer chromatography for amine separation and identification. Sorption ability of the resulting deposits was determined using a quartz microbalance (QCMB). The study was carried out in stationary mode and flow cells to simulate actual operating phase conditions. Based on changes in electrode vibration frequency, the maximum amount of adsorbed analyte and the best conditions for its sorption were determined
The influence of chlorine in indoor swimming pools on the composition of breathing phase of professional swimmers
Objectives: Swimming is one of the most popular forms of physical activity. Pool water is cleaned with chlorine,
which - in combination with compounds contained in water - could form chloramines and trichloromethane in the
swimmer’s lungs. The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of swimming training in an indoor pool on
the composition of swimmers’ respiratory phase metabolomics, and develop a system to provide basic information
about its impact on the swimmer’s airway mucosa metabolism, which could help to assess the risk of secondary
respiratory tract diseases i.e. sport results, condition, and health including lung acute and chronic diseases).
Design: A group of competitive swimmers participated in the study and samples of their respiratory phase before
training, immediately after training, and 2 h after training were assessed.
Methods: Sixteen male national and international-level competitive swimmers participated in this study. Respiratory
phase analysis of the indoor swimming pool swimmers was performed. Gas chromatography combined with mass
spectrometry (GCMS) was used in the measurements. All collected data were transferred to numerical analysis for
trends of tracking and mapping. The breathing phase was collected on special porous material and analyzed using
GCMS headspace.
Results: The obtained samples of exhaled air were composed of significantly different metabolomics when
compared before, during and after exercise training. This suggests that exposition to indoor chlorine causes
changes in the airway mucosa Conclusion: This phenomenon may be explained by occurrence of a chlorine-initiated bio-reaction in the
swimmers’ lungs. The obtained results indicate that chromatographic exhaled gas analysis is a sensitive
method of pulmonary metabolomic changes assessment. Presented analysis of swimmers exhaled air indicates,
that indoor swimming may be responsible for airway irritation caused by volatile chlorine compounds and
their influence on lung metabolism
serca - uznanego czynnika ryzyka nagłego zgonu sercowego.
odstępu QT podczas wzrostów ciśnienia w dzień i w nocy.
Materiał i metody: Badaniem objęto 80 chorych: 34 osoby z nadciśnieniem
tętniczym i 46 pacjentów z nadciśnieniem tętniczym i przebytym zawałem serca.
Wykonano jednocześnie 24-godzinną rejestrację EKG i 24-godzinny automatyczny pomiar
ciśnienia tętniczego. Badanie holterowskie EKG przeprowadzono za pomocą rejestratora
12-kanałowego. Podczas jednoczesnej 24-godzinnej kontroli ciśnienia tętniczego
wyznaczano epizody zwyżki ciśnienia skurczowego powyżej 30 mm Hg i rozkurczowego
powyżej 20 mm Hg względem odpowiedniej wartości przed wzrostem. Pomiary odstępu
QT wykonywano przynajmniej w 8 odprowadzeniach elektrokardiogramu, oddzielnie
podczas zwyżek ciśnienia skurczowego i rozkurczowego, w dzień i w nocy. Dla każdej
zwyżki ciśnienia tętniczego 3-krotnie obliczano dyspersję odstępu QT; 10 minut
przed zwyżką, w trakcie zwyżki i 10 minut po zwyżce ciśnienia tętniczego. Za pomocą
badania echokardiograficznego oceniano odcinkowe zaburzenia kurczliwości, frakcję
wyrzutową i masę lewej komory serca.
Wyniki: Spoczynkowa dyspersja QT jest istotnie większa u chorych
z nadciśnieniem tętniczym i przebytym zawałem serca niż u osób z nadciśnieniem
tętniczym bez objawów choroby wieńcowej. Spontaniczne zwyżki ciśnienia tętniczego
istotnie zmniejszają dyspersję odstępu QT u chorych z nadciśnieniem tętniczym,
umiarkowanym przerostem lewej komory serca i bez objawów choroby wieńcowej oraz
powodują nieistotne zmniejszenie dyspersji odstępu QT u pacjentów z nadciśnieniem
tętniczym, umiarkowanym przerostem lewej komory i przebytym zawałem serca. Nie
stwierdzono istotnego wpływu częstości rytmu serca na dyspersję odstępu QT podczas
zwyżek ciśnienia tętniczego u chorych w badanych grupach. W grupie osób z nadciśnieniem
tętniczym zmniejszenie dyspersji odstępu QT podczas zwyżki ciśnienia było spowodowane
głównie skróceniem maksymalnego odstępu QT. Dalsze zmniejszenie dyspersji odstępu
QT po zwyżce ciśnienia tętniczego wynikało zwłaszcza z wydłużenia minimalnego
odstępu QT. Natomiast u chorych z nadciśnieniem tętniczym i po zawale serca zależności
te były mniej widoczne, chociaż zachowały się zbliżone tendencje. U osób po zawale
serca, u których występowało niedokrwienie mięśnia sercowego, podczas wzrostu
ciśnienia tętniczego, spoczynkowa dyspersja odstępu QT podczas zwyżki i po zwyżce
ciśnienia były nieistotnie większe w porównaniu z chorymi bez niedokrwienia.
Wnioski: Dyspersja odstępu QT zmniejsza się istotnie podczas
zwyżek ciśnienia tętniczego skurczowego i rozkurczowego, zarówno w dzień, jak
i w nocy, u chorych z nadciśnieniem tętniczym, a nieistotnie u pacjentów po zawale
serca. (Folia Cardiol. 2003; 10: 61-69
