    Parameter fitting in three-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with various regularizations

    We study the three-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with various regularization procedures. We perform parameter fitting in each regularization and apply the obtained parameter sets to evaluate various physical quantities, several light meson masses, decay constant and the topological susceptibility. The model parameters are adopted even at very high cutoff scale compare to the hadronic scale to study the asymptotic behavior of the model. It is found that all the regularization methods except for the dimensional one actually lead reliable physical predictions for the kaon decay constant, sigma meson mass and topological susceptibility without restricting the ultra-violet cutoff below the hadronic scale.Comment: 22 pages, 10 figure

    Modification of triaxial deformation and change of spectrum in $^{25}_{\ \Lambda}MgcausedbyMg caused by \Lambda$ hyperon

    The positive-parity states of  Λ25^{25}_{\ \Lambda}Mg with a Λ\Lambda hyperon in ss orbit were studied with the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics for hypernuclei. We discuss two bands of  Λ25^{25}_{\ \Lambda}Mg corresponding to the Kπ=0+K^\pi=0^+ and 2+2^+ bands of 24^{24}Mg. It is found that the energy of the Kπ=2+ΛsK^\pi = 2^+ \otimes \Lambda_s band is shifted up by about 200 keV compared to 24^{24}Mg. This is because the Λ\Lambda hyperon in ss orbit reduces the quadrupole deformation of the Kπ=0+ΛsK^\pi = 0^+ \otimes \Lambda_s band, while it does not change the deformation of the Kπ=2+ΛsK^\pi = 2^+ \otimes \Lambda_s band significantly.Comment: 19 pages, 3 figure

    Odd Sensation Induced by Moving-Phantom which Triggers Subconscious Motor Program

    Our motor actions are sometimes not properly performed despite our having complete understanding of the environmental situation with a suitable action intention. In most cases, insufficient skill for motor control can explain the improper performance. A notable exception is the action of stepping onto a stopped escalator, which causes clumsy movements accompanied by an odd sensation. Previous studies have examined short-term sensorimotor adaptations to treadmills and moving sleds, but the relationship between the odd sensation and behavioral properties in a real stopped-escalator situation has never been examined. Understanding this unique action-perception linkage would help us to assess the brain function connecting automatic motor controls and the conscious awareness of action. Here we directly pose a question: Does the odd sensation emerge because of the unfamiliar motor behavior itself toward the irregular step-height of a stopped escalator or as a consequence of an automatic habitual motor program cued by the escalator itself. We compared the properties of motor behavior toward a stopped escalator (SE) with those toward moving escalator and toward a wooden stairs (WS) that mimicked the stopped escalator, and analyzed the subjective feeling of the odd sensation in the SE and WS conditions. The results show that moving escalator-specific motor actions emerged after participants had stepped onto the stopped escalator despite their full awareness that it was stopped, as if the motor behavior was guided by a “phantom” of a moving escalator. Additionally, statistical analysis reveals that postural forward sway that occurred after the stepping action is directly linked with the odd sensation. The results suggest a dissociation between conscious awareness and subconscious motor control: the former makes us perfectly aware of the current environmental situation, but the latter automatically emerges as a result of highly habituated visual input no matter how unsuitable the motor control is. This dissociation appears to yield an attribution conflict, resulting in the odd sensation

    The disintegrin echistatin in combination with doxorubicin targets high-metastatic human osteosarcoma overexpressing ανβ3 integrin in chick embryo and nude mouse models.

    Echistatin, a cyclic RGD peptide, which is an antagonist of αvβ3 integrin (disintegrin), inhibited human osteosarcoma in the chick chorioallontoic membrane (CAM) model and tumor growth and pulmonary metastases in a nude mouse orthotopic model. A high-metastatic variant of human osteosarcoma, 143B-LM4, overexpressing αvβ3 integrin was used. Tumor angiogenesis by high-metastatic variant 143B-LM4 cells in the CAM was significantly inhibited by echistatin (P<0.05) as was overall growth. A doxorubicin (DOX)-echistatin combination inhibited orthotopic tumor growth compared to untreated control (P<0.01) or DOX alone (P<0.05) in nude mice. Tumor-bearing mice treated with the DOX-echistatin combination survived longer than those treated with DOX alone or control PBS (P<0.01 and P<0.01, respectively). Echistatin also inhibited experimental lung metastasis of 143B-LM4 cells in nude mice. These results suggest that DOX in combination with a disintegrin has potential to treat osteosarcoma and that αvβ3 integrin may be a target for osteosarcoma

    The in vitro efficacy of the disintegrin echistatin was tested on a high-metastatic variant of 143B human osteosarcoma, 143B-LM4, which over-expresses αvβ3 integrin. Echistatin is an RGD cyclic peptide and an antagonist of αvβ3 integrin. In the present study, echistatin inhibited cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and adhesion of 143B-LM4 cells. 143B-LM4 cell proliferation decreased after treatment with echistatin in a time-dependent and dose-dependent manner (P <0.01). In vitro migration and invasion of 143B-LM4 cells were also inhibited by echistatin in a dose-dependent manner (P <0.01, respectively). Cell adhesion to vitronectin of 143B-LM4 cells was also inhibited by echistatin in a dose-dependent manner (P <0.01). These results suggest that αvβ3 integrin may be an effective target for osteosarcoma

    The Formation and Development of Shopping Areas in Chiang Mai, Thailand from the Foundation of Chiang Mai (1884) to 2000: the Transition of Shopping Streets to Complex Shopping Buildings

    This study of the formation and transformation process of shopping streets in Chiang Mai, Thailand aims to identify relative social factors and urban developments, based on architectural data, in order to examine the spatial transformation of shopping streets into complex shopping buildings; in order to understand the transformation process, the research also makes use of historical data, detailing past events significant to the process. The formation of shopping spaces in 1884 falls into two categories pertaining to urban elements: permanent elements such as the river and streets, and temporary elements such as the public plaza that has convertible functions. The river in Chiang Mai is a significant historical route for long distance transportation that directly affected street formation, trading space along the street, and the development of the shopping street. The process of the formation of the shopping street before the 20th century organically followed from the pattern of the urban configuration. The development of permanent urban elements such as street and transportation routes, especially the 1921 opening of the train in Chiang Mai, affected transportation by river and the shopping street directly related to the river, but promoted the areas surrounding the train station. The establishment of shopping streets from 1920 are the consequence of the development of permanent urban elements such as street and public transportation. Urban expansion also affected the shopping street in Chiang Mai. The shopping street lost its role as a place of trade due to developments in the 1980s, which gave priority to cars over pedestrians. These irreversible changes to the urban environment, and the shaping of the trading area, are not mainly caused by urban developments, but come from economic stimulation from government policies, especially for the promotion of tourism. This study of the formation of shopping streets in Chiang Mai describes the key factors of formation and transformation of shopping streets and identifies key factors that should be focused on, including economic advantage and sustainable urban development
