Diphosphorylation of myosin light chain in smooth muscle cells in culture Possible involvement of protein kinase C

    Get PDF
AbstractProstaglandin (PG) F2α (30 μM) stimulated both monophosphorylation and diphosphorylation of myosin light chain (MLC) in a smooth muscle cell line (SM-3). The diphosphorylation was significantly decreased by treatment with the protein kinase C inhibitor staurosporine (30 nM, 30 min) from 20.1% of total MLC to 4.5%. The protein kinase C down-regulation treatment of SM-3 cells with phorbol dibutyrate suppressed to 8.7% the MLC diphosphorylation activity in the SM-3 cells. This down-regulation treatment had little effect on the monophosphorylation. We propose that the MLC diphosphorylation in PGF2α-stimulated SM-3 cells in culture may be regulated through mechanisms sensitive to protein kinase C

    人口減少社会における学校の役割について : N県N市の学校統合の事例をもとに

    Get PDF

A Case of Asymptomatic Left Ventricular Dysfunction during the Treatment of Metastatic Breast Cancer with Trastuzumab

We report a case of 29-year-old Japanese female with a history of resection of primary carcinoma of the right breast. After a partial response by chemotherapy with pirarubicin and docetaxel for lung metastasis, the patient developed multiple brain and bone metastases. As the degree of overexpression of human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2) was (2+), trastuzumab was administered in combination with paclitaxel. Asymptomatic left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction evaluated by echocardiography was observed ten weeks after the beginning of the treatment. After two weeks of discontinuation of the therapy, however, LV function showed rapid recovery and the resumed use of trastuzumab did not cause further cardiac deterioration. The patient died of sudden respiratory failure due to cerebral herniation and not to heart failure

Combination chemotherapy for small cell carcinoma of the lung: evaluation of four-drug combination of cyclophosphamide, vincristine, methotrexate, and procarbazine.

Forty-one patients with small cell carcinoma of the lung were treated with a four-drug combination of cyclophosphamide, vincristine, methotrexate, and procarbazine. The response rate was 68% (28 responded among 41 patients), with 10 complete responses (24%) and 18 partial responses (44%). The median survival time from the initiation of chemotherapy was 11 months for patients with limited disease and 8 months for those with extensive disease. Patients who achieved complete response survived significantly longer than those who did not; the median survival time for complete responders was 14.5 months, compared to 8.5 months for partial responders and 6 months for non-responders. Myelosuppressive toxicity remained within acceptable limits, with 5% incidence of leukocytopenia (less than 1,000/microliter) and 7% incidence of thrombocytopenia (less than 50,000/microliter) following the first course of the regimen.</p

A case of esophageal cancer with mesojejunal lymph node metastasis after total gastrectomy

A 56-year-old man was diagnosed with esophageal cancer by upper gastrointestinal endoscopy for examination of dysphagia. The patient had undergone total gastrectomy and jejunal interposition 4 years previously for a gastric cancer at the pT1N0M0 stage according to the UICC-TNM classification. Enhanced CT findings revealed a 3-cm-diameter mass located near the superior mesenteric artery. We conducted subtotal esophagectomy associated with partial jejunectomy including mesojejunectomy. The mass was histologically diagnosed to be mesojejunal lymph node metastasis from esophageal cancer. Mesojejunal lymph node metastasis from esophageal cancer developing after total gastrectomy has been reported in only three cases including ours. The present lymph node metastases may have occurred via the newly developed lymphatic drainage route through the esophagojejunostomy, and this metastatic lymph node can be considered the regional lymph node. Therefore, resection of the interposed jejunal limb with mesojejunectomy may be rational in surgery on esophageal cancer developing after total gastrectomy

Coincidence analysis to search for inspiraling compact binaries using TAMA300 and LISM data

Japanese laser interferometric gravitational wave detectors, TAMA300 and LISM, performed a coincident observation during 2001. We perform a coincidence analysis to search for inspiraling compact binaries. The length of data used for the coincidence analysis is 275 hours when both TAMA300 and LISM detectors are operated simultaneously. TAMA300 and LISM data are analyzed by matched filtering, and candidates for gravitational wave events are obtained. If there is a true gravitational wave signal, it should appear in both data of detectors with consistent waveforms characterized by masses of stars, amplitude of the signal, the coalescence time and so on. We introduce a set of coincidence conditions of the parameters, and search for coincident events. This procedure reduces the number of fake events considerably, by a factor 104\sim 10^{-4} compared with the number of fake events in single detector analysis. We find that the number of events after imposing the coincidence conditions is consistent with the number of accidental coincidences produced purely by noise. We thus find no evidence of gravitational wave signals. We obtain an upper limit of 0.046 /hours (CL =90= 90 %) to the Galactic event rate within 1kpc from the Earth. The method used in this paper can be applied straightforwardly to the case of coincidence observations with more than two detectors with arbitrary arm directions.Comment: 28 pages, 17 figures, Replaced with the version to be published in Physical Review

The GSMaP Precipitation Retrieval Algorithm for Microwave Sounders-Part I: Over-Ocean Algorithm

Abstract-We develop an over-ocean rainfall retrieval algorithm for the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit (AMSU) based on the Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP) microwave radiometer algorithm. This algorithm combines an emissionbased estimate from brightness temperature (Tb) at 23 GHz and a scattering-based estimate from Tb at 89 GHz, depending on a scattering index (SI) computed from Tb at both 89 and 150 GHz. Precipitation inhomogeneities are also taken into account. The GSMaP-retrieved rainfall from the AMSU (GSMaP_AMSU) is compared with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) standard algorithm (NOAA_AMSU)-retrieved data using Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) data as a reference. Rain rates retrieved by GSMaP_AMSU have better agreement with TRMM estimates over midlatitudes during winter. Better estimates over multitudes over winter are given by the use of Tb at 23 GHz in the GSMaP_AMSU algorithm. It was also shown that GSMaP_AMSU has higher rain detection than NOAA_AMSU.
