Novel 1,2,4-triazole clubbed with 1,3,4-oxadiazole motifs as efficient antimicrobial agents from N-arylsydnone as synthon

1,2,4-Triazoles and 1,3,4-oxadiazoles independently are very important pharmacophores. In view of this, a new class of 1,2,4-triazole clubbed with 1,3,4-oxadiazole motifs have been prepared and characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and mass spectral analysis. Molecular docking of all the title compounds into S. aureus tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase (PDB: 1JIJ) and lanosterol 14α-demethylase complex with standard inhibitor Fluconazole (PDB: 3KHM) was performed which snugly fitted into the active site thus explaining their excellent inhibitory activity exhibiting their possible antibacterial and antifungal activity, respectively. Drug-likeliness, Drug score values and toxicity prediction analyses of all the title compounds have shown favourable values and these molecules belong to Class 4 and Class 5 categories which make them useful scaffolds. Interestingly, the compounds 7h, 7i, 7k, 7u and 7v have exhibited majestic antibacterial activity. Also, these compounds have shown antifungal activity against all pathogenic fungal strains with lower MIC value ranging from 0.50 - 4.00 µg/mL

Stage Call: Cardiovascular Reactivity to Audition Stress in Musicians

Auditioning is at the very center of educational and professional life in music and is associated with significant psychophysical demands. Knowledge of how these demands affect cardiovascular responses to psychosocial pressure is essential for developing strategies to both manage stress and understand optimal performance states. To this end, we recorded the electrocardiograms (ECGs) of 16 musicians (11 violinists and 5 flutists) before and during performances in both low- and high-stress conditions: with no audience and in front of an audition panel, respectively. The analysis consisted of the detection of R-peaks in the ECGs to extract heart rate variability (HRV) from the notoriously noisy real-world ECGs. Our data analysis approach spanned both standard (temporal and spectral) and advanced (structural complexity) techniques. The complexity science approaches—namely, multiscale sample entropy and multiscale fuzzy entropy—indicated a statistically significant decrease in structural complexity in HRV from the low- to the high-stress condition and an increase in structural complexity from the pre-performance to performance period, thus confirming the complexity loss theory and a loss in degrees of freedom due to stress. Results from the spectral analyses also suggest that the stress responses in the female participants were more parasympathetically driven than those of the male participants. In conclusion, our findings suggest that interventions to manage stress are best targeted at the sensitive pre-performance period, before an audition begins

Cardiac arrest following ventilator fire: A rare cause

Operating room fires are rare events, but when occur they result in serious and sometimes fatal consequences. Anaesthesia ventilator fire leading to cardiac arrest is a rare incident and has not been reported. We report a near catastrophic ventilator fire leading to cardiac arrest in a patient undergoing subtotal thyroidectomy. In the present case sparks due to friction or electrical short circuit within the ventilator might have acted as source of ignition leading to fire and explosion in the oxygen rich environment. The patient was successfully resuscitated and revived with uneventful recovery and no adverse sequelae. The cardiac arrest was possibly due to severe hypoxia resulting from inhalation of smoke containing high concentrations of carbon monoxide and other noxious gases

Expedient synthesis of 1,2,4-triazolin-3-one derivatives as DNA cleavage and antioxidant agents

The present study involves the synthesis of fluoren-9-ylidene 5a-e and isoindolin-1,3-dione derivatives 5f-j appended to 1,2,4-triazolin-2-one under solvent and neat conditions. The title compounds have been evaluated for the extent of cell penetration through biological membranes (clogP) and drug score has been calculated and further screened for DNA cleavage and antioxidant activities

Synthesis of 3-aryl-4-({2-[4-(6-substituted-coumarin-3-yl)-1,3-thiazol-2-yl]hydrazinylidene}methyl/ethyl)-sydnones using silica sulfuric acid and their antidiabetic, DNA cleavage activity

A novel one-pot synthesis of sydnones appended to coumarins (4a–r) via thiazole in presence of silica sulfuric acid as a heterogeneous catalyst is discussed. The use of low cost and reusable silica sulfuric acid as catalyst makes this process feasible and convenient. Further, the title compounds were screened for their α-amylase inhibition (antidiabetic) as well as DNA cleavage activities

Computed Tomographic findings in Patients with Craniofacial Fibrous Dysplasia: A Case Series

    No full text
Craniofacial Fibrous Dysplasia (CFD) is a rare developmental non inheritable, non neoplastic fibro-osseous disease of the bone, which can be monostotic or polyostotic. The term CFD is used to describe FD where the lesions are confined to contiguous bones of the craniofacial skeleton. This is a case series of 18 patients with features of FD in facial and skull bones on Computed Tomography (CT). CT findings of CFD in relation to lesion location, number, appearance, and gender of the patient were documented. Out of the 18 patients, 10 were males and eight were females. The mean age was 36.4 years with a range of 13 to 77 years. Single bone involvement was seen in 15 patients, and multiple bone involvement was seen in three patients. Among the cases with single bone involvement, the ethmoid bone was involved in the majority of the cases (n=5), while the sphenoid and temporal bones were equally involved in four patients. Two cases showed lesions in the frontal bone. Ground glass attenuation was seen in the majority (n=13) of the cases. Four cases showed mixed attenuation, and sclerosis was seen in one patient. CT is the investigation of choice for craniofacial dysplasia, which can help in the diagnosis and extent of the disease. Apart from diagnosis, CT is helpful in monitoring progression and treatment planning of the disease. CT is the first investigation of choice for craniofacial dysplasia since a plain radiograph of the skull can show a complex appearance due to overlapping structures

In the title compound, C8H6ClN3O, the dihedral angle between the 1,2,4-triazole and benzene rings is 4.60 (9)° and an intramolecular C-H...O interaction closes an S(6) ring. In the crystal, inversion dimers linked by pairs of N-H...O hydrogen bonds generate R22(8) loops and C-H...O interactions link the dimers into [100] chains. Weak [pi]-[pi] stacking interactions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.644 (1) Å] are also observed
