Background: In April 2021, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing released new BSN essentials that emphasized population health. This inclusion of population health as an essential could improve prelicensure nursing students’ knowledge and skills in providing population health-based services. Also, it could help improve their attitude towards population health. Objective: To explore the challenges of nurse educators’ perception and experience associated with the integration of population health content to prelicensure nursing curricula. Methods: This is a secondary analysis of the qualitative data collected in an ongoing mixed-methods study exploring how population health content is integrated into prelicensure nursing curricula. The eligible participants, who have terminal degrees and teaching prelicensure nursing students, were recruited by email and posts on professional registered nursing organizations’ websites. The email interviews included semi-structured and demographic questions. The data was examined using content analysis. Nine participants’ responses were used for the preliminary data saturation. Question nine was compared across participants for this study. Results: There were three key challenges: 1. Lack of faculty involvement, comprehension, availability, and experience; 2. Lack of available experiential sites; 3. Students lacked the ability to relay content, interest, and flexibility. As nursing educators, one had 1-5 years of experience, three had more than six years of experience, and five had more than 10 years of experience. Five participants were faculty members, and four were curriculum coordinators at their respective institutions. Conclusion: More empirical evidence is needed to fully understand the challenges and ascertain the best solutions for improved integration of population health content in prelicensure nursing curricula. This is vital for certifying prelicensure nursing programs meet the AANC essentials on population health

Design and Synthesis of Solid State Materials Constructed from Polyoxomolybdate Clusters

    Get PDF
This work encompasses detailed investigations of the synthesis and structures of polyoxomolybdate materials. The design and synthesis of hybrid organic-inorganic materials constructed from various anionic polyoxomolybdate units and cationic secondary metal-ligand units, and the synthesis and ligand-exchange capacity of the giant polyoxomolybdate cluster Mo-132 are described. These studies aim to increase our understanding of the formation and physiochemical properties of these materials, and thereby aid in the ability to control and predict their structural chemistry. The analysis of a number of structural determinants in the oxomolybdenum-organodiphosphonate system aims to expand the current knowledge of this family of materials. We have focused on variables such as: the organic tether length of alkyldiphosphonate ligands; the size, flexibility, and number of nitrogen donor groups of secondary organoimine ligands; the oxidation state of the cationic transition metal center; and the incorporation of fluoride into the molybdodiphosphonate substructure. In order to explore the range of possible anionic charges that the polyoxomolybdate Mo-132 cluster may posses, ligand-exchange reactions were conducted. This has been accomplished through the incorporation of various ratios of ligands contributing different degrees of anionic charge into the molybdate framework. Assorted structural characterization techniques reveal a range of ligand exchange based on the pH of the reaction solution

Transforming Masculinist Political Cultures? Doing Politics in New Political Institutions

In the devolved legislative assemblies of Scotland and Wales the proportion of women representatives is approaching parity. This is in marked contrast to Westminster where one in five MPs are women. In this paper we explore the extent to which the masculinist political cultures characterising established political institutions are being reproduced in the National Assembly for Wales or whether its different gendering, both in the numbers of women representatives and in terms of its institutional framework, is associated with a more feminised political and organisational culture. Drawing on interviews with half the Assembly Members, women and men, we show that the political style of the Assembly differs from that of Westminster and that Assembly Members perceive it as being more consensual and as embodying a less aggressive and macho way of doing politics. AMs relate this difference to the gender parity amongst Assembly Members, to the institutional arrangements which have an \'absolute duty\' to promote equality embedded in them, and to the desire to develop a different way of doing politics. We suggest that the ability to do politics in a more feminised and consensual way relates not only to the presence of a significant proportion of women representatives, but also to the nature of the institution and the way in which differently gendered processes and practices are embedded within it. Differently gendered political institutions can develop a more feminised political culture which provides an alternative to the masculinist political culture characterising the political domain.Gender, Political Culture, New Political Institutions, Consensus Politics, Political Style, National Assembly for Wales

Small Satellite Capability Analysis: Communications Subsystem

    Get PDF
With improved technology, small satellites have opened space to customers such as universities conducting research, companies testing products, and countries unable to support a traditional large space program. As more small satellites operate in space, a theoretical concept of their capabilities is useful not only for satellite designers, but also current spacecraft operators and space situational awareness observers. This study examines the maximum communication capability of a S-band geostationary small satellite as part of a larger Small Satellite Capability Analysis study. Power production using body-mounted solar cells is maximized for cubic satellites with characteristic lengths from ten centimeters to one meter. The maximum data rate is calculated using link analysis and QPSK coding procedures. Multiple ground station sizes and allocated volumes for the transmitter are examined, and ideal conditions are used throughout the study. While the maximum data rate increases with satellite size and ground station antenna size, this procedure gives a “physics-only” solution that is far beyond the capabilities of current satellite components. Technological limits are applied to the solution to find the realistic maximum communication capability. A few general trends are apparent in the results. The input power required by the transmitter determines the minimum size satellite that can support a given transmitter. If only a small portion of the satellite volume is allocated for the transmitter, the transmitter volume also dictates the minimum size satellite that can support a given transmitter. The supported transmitter determines the output power and maximum bandwidth, which determine the resulting data rate. These limitations are the areas of technological development necessary to expand the future communication capability of small satellites. A trendline of allocated payload volumes based on satellite size is also developed to indicate the capability of the analyzed small satellite to accomplish other tasks. This is combined with the communication performance of satellites (with small transmitter-allocated internal volumes) to create a 3-D solution space for the overall capability of small satellites

Common Causes of IT Project Failure in Public Universities in Oklahoma

    Get PDF
Information technology (IT) project management is a dynamic field. It requires a project manager who knows how to manage a project and possesses a knowledge of technology. The purpose of this research is to find the common factors that contribute to IT project failure in public universities in Oklahoma and know what role facilitated the failed IT project. For the purposes of this study, the roles leading the projects are a certified project manager, a non-certified project manager, or a non-project manager. Also, IT projects for this study are ones that require hardware changes, software changes or integrate new technology. The goal of this study is to help public universities successfully implement IT projects. Successfully implementing an IT project in a public university might help the university be a better steward of both taxpayer funds and private donations

The Chinese Animation Industry: from the Mao Era to the Digital Age

Since the 1950’s the Chinese Animation industry has been trying to create a unique national style for China. The national style of the 1950’s and early 1960’s was one of freedom, fantasy, and creativity. With the success of “Heroic Little Sisters of the Grassland”/è‰ćŽŸè‹±é›„ć°ć§ćŠč(1965), the government administration, namely Jiang Qing of the “Gang of Four”, demanded that all animation should follow specific guidelines based on Social Realism guidelines. This in turn, ushered in a new national style of animation during the Cultural Revolution(1966-1976). During this ten-year period government policies imposed strict restrictions on animators and cause a drain of creative talents—setting the industry decades behind internationally. When the Mao Era ended in the late 1970s the Chinese animation industry enjoyed a brief period of domestic growth. But new challenges occurred when China opened its doors to the world in 1985, which allowed Japanese animation to come in like a storm. For the next two decades, Chinese media was flooded with Japanese anime, and Chinese animation struggled for a place on tv until the early 2000’s. This research asks the question of what factors have prevented Chinese animation from succeeding both internationally and globally. It also looks at how these factors have contributed both negatively and positively to the animation industry. The main factors attributing to China’s struggle from the 1940s until today are as follows: government policies, national style, and the influence of foreign animation in China

Impaired balance and gait function are highly prevalent and associated with reduced quality of life in those with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Recent evidence implicates the somatosensory system as a major contributor to balance dysfunction in this population. As part of the mini-symposium entitled Advanced Computational and Technological Approaches to Mitigating Mobility Dysfunction in People with Multiple Sclerosis, this presentation will discuss evidence supporting the role of reduced somatosensation in balance for those with MS and introduce a new paradigm to assess sensation during functional postures in the clinical and laboratory settings

Addressing Racial Disproportionality in the Juvenile Justice System: An Evaluation of the King County Juvenile Court 180-Program

    Get PDF
Restorative justice programs are frequently designed to divert youth from the criminal justice system and to decrease recidivism. In 2011, King County established a restorative justice program, the 180-program, to decrease new referrals and to decrease racial disproportionality in the juvenile court. While previous studies have found lower overall new referral rates for youth who completed the 180-program, gaps remain. The program has not been measured for likelihood of recidivism and completion rates based on race. The 180-program has been compared to other juvenile justice programs but has not been analyzed for its individual success and effectiveness. Informed by self-concept and labeling theories, this study re-assesses the 180- program’s success in confronting the disproportionality issue in the juvenile justice system. Purposive sampling of secondary data was utilized. Racial equity scoring and logistic regression was used as measurement/ analytic tools. Limitations and policy implications are discussed
