Proatividade Inovadora em Produção e Consumo Sustentáveis no Brasil: das Intenções às Ações Organizacionais Fundamentais

    Get PDF
The purpose of this essay is to reflect on proactively innovative organizational actions in sustainability in order to achieve sustainable production and consumption goals (SPC). The essay will emphasize that sustainability leadership, people management for sustainability and supply chain management for sustainability all form a triad of fundaments that can contribute to overcoming "business as usual" towards "sustainable business". We alert to the fact that the concretization of such aspirations requires the amalgamation of two terms, namely, organizational "proactivity" and "innovation", without which, the route to building more sustainable organizations tends to be inaccessible

Environmental technologies: In search of a meaning

    Get PDF
This article searches for a more complete meaning for an expression which has been more and more adopted by academic and managerial forums: environmental technology. The development, adoption and diffusion of environmental technologies require that social agents, institutions and social sectors have a common and proper understanding of the meaning of environmental technology. However, the state of the art conceptual proposals are unable to answer the challenge of finding a clear definition of the term. This article explores the term's taxonomy and identifies it's development and dissemination process, giving a fuller meaning for environmental technology

Sustainability as a dynamic organizational capability: A systematic review and a future agenda toward a sustainable transition

    Get PDF
Sustainability is a managerial trend that plays an important role in the contemporary organizational strategy. A company's capability to make sustainability more dynamic and integrated with strategies, transforming it into a business asset, has yet to be studied. This process of adaptation is reflected through innovative practices. However, there is still a gap between these practices and the organization's strategies and capabilities. The aim of this work was to conduct a systematic literature review of the dynamic capabilities for sustainability. Afterward, it was possible to systematize the available knowledge, assessing the current lack of research integrating both themes. The mainstream literature was classified and coded, resulting in a framework for what has been done to date, with recommendations to guide future research. Results show that more research is needed on dynamic capabilities for sustainability, especially in emerging economies in general. Future studies should also consider mixed methodologies and comparative perspectives in multiples sectors or in the services sector. There's also space to discuss managerial innovations toward sustainability through research alliances between different institutions around the world. In short, there are few studies that connect both themes- corporate sustainability and dynamic capabilities-and for this reason there is an opportunity for future studies seeking to identify what kind of dynamic capabilities can be developed to more effectively overcome the emerging sustainability challenges

Straws in the wind of climate change: challenges, opportunities, and the role of production function in the context of global warming

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to enlighten the implications of climate change for organizations. To deal with this subject, the follow issues are analyzed: concept of environmental intelligence; opportunities which justify the adoption of these strategies, and the main role performed by the production function to implement such strategies. Finally, concepts of prior theoretical models are taken into account

Putting environmental technologies into the mainstream: Adoption of environmental technologies by medium-sized manufacturing firms in Brazil

    Get PDF
The aim of this research is to analyze how critical success factors (CSFs) can influence the adoption of environmental technologies by Brazilian manufacturing companies. In terms of conceptual background, this research fits within the context of environmental management in corporate organizations, focusing on the adoption of environmental technologies in the manufacturing context and their critical success factors. In terms of methodology, this research is based on a case study conducted on two medium-sized industrial companies located in Brazil (company “Alfa” and company “Beta”). The results show the emergence of a new CSF called employee empowerment, which derives from learning and benchmarking initiatives. Two CSFs can be highlighted as the most relevant and unanimously present in both company “Alpha” and company “Beta”: support from senior management and employee empowerment through learning and benchmarking. In addition, communication and cultural organizational changes were relevant CSFs, especially for Beta. Furthermore, there is a potential synergistic relationship between CSFs and the maturity level of environmental management. For example, Beta was positioned on a more advanced environmental level as well as had greater intensity in terms of CSFs than Alpha. This work can be considered one of the first researches relating CSFs and the adoption of environmental technologies in medium-sized firms in Brazil

Adoption of green supply chain management practices: Mechanisms of induction and the role of focal companies ST

    Get PDF
The goal of this study is to analyze how green supply chain management (GSCM) practices are induced, both internally and externally, by focal companies on their supply chains located in the Brazilian high-tech segment. Eight case studies are conducted through the triangulation of data sources: interviews, observations and secondary data collection. The findings reveal specific mechanisms for inducing GSCM practices internally and externally, the principal of which are environmental training, logistics activities, the selection and evaluation of suppliers and green marketing. The focal firm is also identified as the vector in this process, inducing the adoption of green supply chain practices in the chain as a whole

Eco-innovation and technological cooperation in cassava processing companies: structural equation modeling

    Get PDF
The generation of wealth, sustained by productive activities of agro-industries, leads to the production of wastes and uses natural resources, interfering in the environmental pillar of sustainability. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether cassava processing companies generate eco-innovations by means of technological cooperation, and the degree of participation of agents in these interactions. The quantitative method used the structural equation modeling for data analyses. The results indicated a relationship between technological cooperation and the generation of eco-innovation. The model developed showed the significance between variables and exposed the main aspects that generate eco-innovation from technological cooperation. A cooperation process allows a reduction in the burning of fossil fuels, reducing the emission of methane gas, which aggravates the greenhouse effect, also reducing odor, and ultimately, providing financial gains to agribusiness

Green project management practices, green knowledge acquisition and sustainable competitive advantage: empirical evidence

    Get PDF
Purpose: This study aims to envisage the impact of green project management (GPM) practices on sustainable competitive advantage (SCA). Moreover, this study also accessed the mediating role of green knowledge acquisition (GKA) as a mechanism between GPM and SCA. Design/methodology/approach: Using a quantitative field survey, the data were collected from the multi-sector manufacturing enterprises (n = 265) in Pakistan. The measurement and structural model were tested through Analysis of Moment Structure by conducting a covariance structure analysis. Findings: The findings suggest that GPM practices are positively related to SCA. In addition to this direct effect, GKA play a significant role in explaining the associations between GPM practices and SCA. The findings bring essential insights for the enterprises, policymakers, practitioners and project managers to promote GPM practices for low-carbon projects to achieve SCA. Research limitations/implications: The data used in this study is cross-sectional in nature. The geographic location is limited to firms in Pakistan, while well-validated subjective measures are used to make the survey more convenient for participants. Practical implications: The practitioners in general, while project managers in particular, are recommended to implement GPM practices and GKA to achieve high performance of SCA. Originality/value: To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is one of the first studies to examine GPM practices and its effect on SCA directly and via GKA in a single model
