Андрокур в терапии больных раком предстательной железы
Androcur is one of basic drugs for the hormonal treatment of patients with prostate cancer. A great number of randomized studies showing the efficacy of androcur alone and in combination with other hormonal treatments have been completed. When orally or intramuscularly administered, the drug is well tolerated, showing the equal efficacy. Androcur used before treatment with luteinizing hormone-realizing hormone agonists is effective in inhibiting the «flash» syndrome. A combination of the agent with surgical or medical castration enhances the efficiency of therapy and improves the quality of life, by reducing the incidence of adverse reactions, such as hot flashes and hyperhidrosis. Androcur therapy prior to radical prostatectomy decreases the frequency of positive surgical edge while neoadjuvant therapy used before radiotherapy enhances the efficiency of radiation and reduces the number of local recurrences.

Observation of time quasicrystal and its transition to superfluid time crystal
We report experimental realization of a quantum time quasicrystal, and its
transformation to a quantum time crystal. We study Bose-Einstein condensation
of magnons, associated with coherent spin precession, created in a flexible
trap in superfluid He-B. Under a periodic drive with an oscillating
magnetic field, the coherent spin precession is stabilized at a frequency
smaller than that of the drive, demonstrating spontaneous breaking of discrete
time translation symmetry. The induced precession frequency is incommensurate
with the drive, and hence the obtained state is a time quasicrystal. When the
drive is turned off, the self-sustained coherent precession lives a
macroscopically-long time, now representing a time crystal with broken symmetry
with respect to continuous time translations. Additionally, the magnon
condensate manifests spin superfluidity, justifying calling the obtained state
a time supersolid or a time super-crystal
Summing Over Inequivalent Maps in the String Theory Interpretation of Two Dimensional QCD
Following some recent work by Gross, we consider the partition function for
QCD on a two dimensional torus and study its stringiness. We present strong
evidence that the free energy corresponds to a sum over branched surfaces with
small handles mapped into the target space. The sum is modded out by all
diffeomorphisms on the world-sheet. This leaves a sum over disconnected classes
of maps. We prove that the free energy gives a consistent result for all smooth
maps of the torus into the torus which cover the target space times, where
is prime, and conjecture that this is true for all coverings. Each class
can also contain integrations over the positions of branch points and small
handles which act as ``moduli'' on the surface. We show that the free energy is
consistent for any number of handles and that the first few leading terms are
consistent with contributions from maps with branch points.Comment: 17 pages, 5 eps figures contained in a uuencoded file, UVA-HET-92-1
A preliminary factor analytic investigation into the first-order factor structure of the Fifteen Factor Plus (15FQ+) on a sample of Black South African managers
The original publication is available at http://www.sajip.co.zaMoyo, S. & Theron, C. 2011. A preliminary factor analytic investigation into the first-order factor structure of the Fifteen Factor Plus (15FQ+) on a sample of Black South African managers. SA Journal of Industrial Psychology, 37(1), 1-22, doi: 10.4102/sajip.v37i1.934.Orientation: The Fifteen Factor Questionnaire Plus (15FQ+) is a prominent personality
questionnaire that organisations frequently use in personnel selection in South Africa.
Research purpose: The primary objective of this study was to undertake a factor analytic
investigation of the first-order factor structure of the 15FQ+.
Motivation for the study: The construct validity of the 15FQ+, as a measure of personality, is
necessary even though it is insufficient to justify its use in personnel selection.
Research design, approach and method: The researchers evaluated the fit of the measurement
model, which the structure and scoring key of the 15FQ+ implies, in a quantitative study that
used an ex post facto correlation design through structural equation modelling. They conducted
a secondary data analysis. They selected a sample of 241 Black South African managers from
a large 15FQ+ database.
Main findings: The researchers found good measurement model fit. The measurement model
parameter estimates were worrying. The magnitude of the estimated model parameters
suggests that the items generally do not reflect the latent personality dimensions the designers
intended them to with a great degree of precision. The items are reasonably noisy measures of
the latent variables they represent.
Practical/managerial implications: Organisations should use the 15FQ+ carefully on Black
South African managers until further local research evidence becomes available.
Contribution/value-add: The study is a catalyst to trigger the necessary additional research
we need to establish convincingly the psychometric credentials of the 15FQ+ as a valuable
assessment tool in South Africa.Publisher's versio
Some New/Old Approaches to QCD
This is a talk delivered at the Meeting on Integrable Quantum Field Theories,
Villa Olmo and at STRINGS 1992, Rome, September 1992. I discuss some recent
attempts to revive two old ideas regarding an analytic approach to QCD-the
development of a string representation of the theory and the large N limit of
QCD.Comment: 20 page
Применение эритропоэтинов в онкоурологической практике
Treatment of complications due to both early and end-stage urological cancers and those resulting from chemo- or radiotherapy is currently a topical problem.Anemia in cancer patients is a complex syndrome that is caused by the disease and may be treatment induced with the blood level of hemoglobin being below the normal physiological range (< 12 g/dl).A great number of causes of anemia are known in urologic cancer patients. These include chemotherapy for disseminated cancer of the testicle, urinary bladder, and prostate; radiotherapy for prostate cancer; concomitant chronic renal failure in renal cancer; metastatic bone marrow involvement in prostate, renal and urinary bladder cancers; hemorrhages in bladder tumors; profuse bleedings from the bladder and rectum in radiation-induced cystitis and rectitis. A reduction in the level of hemoglobin below the normal physiological range affects not only prognosis and quality of life, but also the course of the disease and the efficiency of specific treatment. Detection of anemia in urological cancer patients and its treatment are required to improve the quality of life and the indices of specific treatment. In a malignant process, anemia is generally chronic and frequent blood transfusions substantially increase the risk for adverse reactions (transmission of viral infections, allergic and immunological reactions). The use of recombinant human erythropoietin is an alternative approach that has been recently widely used to correct and prevent anemia in cancer patients. In the past 10 years, numerous prospective and retrospective studies dealing with the treatment of cancer-induced and postcytostatic anemia in patients with solid tumors and lymphoproliferative diseases. They have demonstrated the efficacy of erythropoietin alpha (Eprex®) that considerably increases blood hemoglobin levels and improves life quality indices.

PHARMACOECONOMICAL RESEARCH OF THE USE OF SORAFENIB IN MALIGNANT TUMORS
Purpose. Pharmacoeconomic rationale for the use of sorafenib in malignant tumors in comparison with drugs that are included in the list of pharmaceuticals to provide to certain categories of citizens.Method of the study. Pharmacoeconomic rationale for the use of sorafenib in this study is made by analyzing the impact on the budget. The calculated costs of treatment with sorafenib at a hypothetical group of 100 patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (MRCC), hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and differentiated thyroid cancer resistant to radioactive iodine (DCT). These costs were compared with costs of treatment of a similar group of 100 patients, with treatment of MRCC applied bevacizumab (original or generic) in combination with interferon α, and patients with HCC and DCT were excluded from receiving drugs from a program of providing with necessary medicines (PNM). As a result the potential economic effect of the inclusion of sorafenib in the list of PNM was calculated.Results. Treatment of MRCC is cheaper with the use of sorafenib compared to bevacizumab in combination with interferon α: savings is 592 878 rubles in the original use of bevacizumab and 274 976 rubles in the use of generic bevacizumab for one patient-year. If we use sorafenib in a group of 100 people with MRCC, HCC and DCT suitable for treatment with sorafenib, the overall expenses are more than 175 million rubles, while using the original combination of bevacizumab with interferon α – more than 204 million rubles, and in the application of the generic combination of bevacizumab with interferon α – more than 176 million rubles, while in the two last cases the treatment of patients with HCC and DCT is not carried out. The total amount of annual budget savings in the treatment of 100 patients is more than 28.5 million rubles at the account of original of bevacizumab or more than 1 million rubles in accounting of generic bevacizumab.Conclusion. The inclusion of the targeted drug sorafenib in the list of pharmaceuticals to provide certain categories of citizens is economically justified. The use of sorafenib, instead of the combination of bevacizumab + interferon-α in patients with MRCC gives us the opportunity to release the funds and provide a systemic treatment of patients with other malignancies (HCC, DCT) while reducing the burden on the budget
