Measurement of the Pion Polarizability at COMPASS
The value of the pion polarizability is predicted with high precision by
Chiral Perturbation Theory. However, the existing experimental values are at
tension with this prediction as well as among themselves. The COMPASS
experiment at the CERN SPS accesses pion-photon reactions via the Primakoff
effect, where high-energetic pions react with the quasi-real photon field
surrounding the target nuclei. Flagship channel is the Primakoff reaction in
which a single real photon is produced, giving access to pion Compton
scattering. Using this process the pion polarizability is extracted from the
measured cross-section shape. End of 2009 COMPASS performed a measurement of
the pion polarizability using a nickel target. The large amount of data
collected in combination with the possibility to study systematic effects using
the analogous reaction with a muon beam, the most precise experimental value to
date was determined.Comment: Proceedings for the XV International Conference on Hadron

Radiative corrections to the neutral-current Drell-Yan process in the Standard Model and its minimal supersymmetric extension
An adequate description of the neutral-current Drell-Yan process at the
Tevatron and the LHC, in particular, requires the inclusion of electroweak
radiative corrections. We extend earlier work in this direction in various
ways. First, we define and numerically compare different methods to describe
the Z-boson resonance including next-to-leading order electroweak corrections;
moreover, we provide explicit analytical expressions for those. Second, we pay
particular attention to contributions from photon-photon and photon-quark
collisions, which involve photons in the initial state, and work out how their
impact can be enhanced by selection cuts. Third, we supplement the O(\alpha)
corrections by universal electroweak effects of higher order, such as universal
two-loop contributions from \Delta\alpha and \Delta\rho, and the leading
two-loop corrections in the high-energy Sudakov regime as well as multi-photon
radiation off muons in the structure-function approach. Finally, we present
results on the complete next-to-leading order electroweak and QCD corrections
within the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model.Comment: 57 pages, latex, 19 figures, 7 tables; photon PDF factorization

The conditional entropy power inequality for quantum additive noise channels
We prove the quantum conditional Entropy Power Inequality for quantum
additive noise channels. This inequality lower bounds the quantum conditional
entropy of the output of an additive noise channel in terms of the quantum
conditional entropies of the input state and the noise when they are
conditionally independent given the memory. We also show that this conditional
Entropy Power Inequality is optimal in the sense that we can achieve equality
asymptotically by choosing a suitable sequence of Gaussian input states. We
apply the conditional Entropy Power Inequality to find an array of
information-theoretic inequalities for conditional entropies which are the
analogues of inequalities which have already been established in the
unconditioned setting. Furthermore, we give a simple proof of the convergence
rate of the quantum Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup based on Entropy Power
Inequalities.Comment: 26 pages; updated to match published versio
Differential forms in positive characteristic avoiding resolution of singularities
This paper studies several notions of sheaves of differential forms that are
better behaved on singular varieties than K\"ahler differentials. Our main
focus lies on varieties that are defined over fields of positive
characteristic. We identify two promising notions: the sheafification with
respect to the cdh-topology, and right Kan extension from the subcategory of
smooth varieties to the category of all varieties. Our main results are that
both are cdh-sheaves and agree with K\"ahler differentials on smooth varieties.
They agree on all varieties under weak resolution of singularities. A number of
examples highlight the difficulties that arise with torsion forms and with
alternative candiates.Comment: The new version contains a considerable improvement on the earlier
version. Following the remark of a referee, we are now able to show
cdh-descent for differential forms on smooth varietie
The Centrality of Religiosity Scale (CRS)
The Centrality of Religiosity Scale (CRS) is a measure of the centrality, importance or salience of religious meanings in personality that has been applied yet in more than 100 studies in sociology of religion, psychology of religion and religious studies in 25 countries with in total more than 100,000 participants. It measures the general intensities of five theoretical defined core dimensions of religiosity. The dimensions of public practice, private practice, religious experience, ideology and the intellectual dimensions can together be considered as representative for the total of religious live. From a psychological perspective, the five core-dimensions can be seen as channels or modes in which personal religious constructs are shaped and activated. The activation of religious constructs in personality can be regarded as a valid measure of the degree of religiosity of an individual. The CRS thus derives from the five dimensional measures a combined measure of the centrality of religiosity which is suitable also for interreligious studies. The paper presents the theoretical basis and rationale of its construction with different versions of the CRS in 20 languages with norm values for 21 countries. Furthermore, the paper presents versions of different extension and describes specific modifications that were developed for studies with Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims
