Does Applying Screenshot Annotations Enhance Learning Effectiveness? The Moderating Role of Course Difficulty

    Get PDF
The rapid growth of information technologies has given rise to a variety of e-learning platforms. However, simply providing multimedia instructional materials does not necessarily improve users’ understanding of the instructional content. The study makes use of Flickr annotations, including stickers, drawings, and texts, to improve users’ learning performance while learning computer software. All users are able to upload screenshots to Flickr to demonstrate computer software problems and troubleshooting software. To clarify what their screenshots mean, they can describe their problems or provide their opinions by attaching annotations to a specific screenshot. Through the use of annotations, Flickr provides the users with an easier way to describe or understand problems. This study comprised a three-course investigation. In addition to understand users’ learning effectiveness, two context-related factors, peer opinion and personal innovativeness, were chosen as the basis for the research model. Based on data collected from 281 students, the results indicated that peer opinion had a positive effect on intention, whereas the effect of personal innovativeness, surprisingly, was negative rather than positive. Besides, the results based on the three computer software courses with different levels of difficulty confirmed the moderating effect of course difficulty

High-Mobility Workers’ Expectations of Mobile Business Applications

The popularity of smartphones has provided new opportunities for mobile (m)-businesses in recent years. This study implements a qualitative research design using the Delphi method and attempts to gain an insight into the expected value of m-business apps from the high-mobility workers’ perspective. Three major value propositions are gathered during the study, including ubiquity, time efficiency, and collaboration. We also conclude that task-technology fit is a key factor when pursuing user satisfaction due to the limited screen size of smartphones. In the context of m-business, users expect simple interfaces instead of sophisticated functions or training sessions. The work-life conflict was investigated as a potential reason for resistance to m-business; however, none of the interviewees in this study identified such conflicts

Investigating the Effect of Pre-Purchase Search and Ongoing Search on Post-Purchase Dissonance

    Get PDF
In the era of Internet, the issue of information search has obtained attention since the Internet provides more convenient search channel for consumers to change consumers’ searching behaviours. The purpose of this study aims to understand how different types of information search influences consumers’ post-purchase mental state while their amount of information search are influenced by the consumers’ product knowledge. The result shows that consumer product knowledge has positive influence on different types of information search, and has negative influence on post-purchase dissonance. Meanwhile, online pre-purchase search and post-purchase search have negative influence on post-purchase dissonance

Piyo Piyo, yellow duck, from Cayman Tung Ling Industrial Co., Ltd. is not unfamiliar to those who were born in the 70’s and 80’s, merchandise and toys of the brand are their childhood memories. Tung Ling’s Piyo Piyo was found in 1988, over the years, it has over 400 retail branches around the world; however, in this Internet prospered 21st era, even an old brand, such as Tung Ling needs to use its advantages to elevate itself from competitions, especially in e-commerce field. One of the major tasks for Tung Ling is to build and develop a method for e-commerce, and the founder of the company listed this effort as one of the ten key accomplishments within the next 10 years; moreover, it will have more professionals and active discussions regarding the matter in order to thrive in web commerce

Concerning Mobile Multitasking Post-Behavior State of Mind

    Get PDF
With the growing popularity of mobile web service and mobile devices, mobile multitasking behaviour is becoming an important issue for mobile commerce among practitioners and academics. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of polychronicity preference, mobile self-efficacy and anxious trait on multitasking behaviour and the multitasking post-behaviour state of mind. The result shows that polychronicity preference has direct influence on users’ multitasking behaviours and negative influence toward easiness state of mobile multitasking post-behaviour state of mind. Mobile self-efficacy has positive influence on mobile multitasking behaviours while anxiety trait only has negative influence on a portion of the mobile multitasking behaviours. Mobile multitasking has direct influence on post-behaviour state of mind

How the Activities of Federal Virtual Community Impact the Characteristics of Knowledge Worker Team -A Case Study Approach

    Get PDF
Abstract: In a quest to find out how the use of virtual communities may impact the characteristics of knowledge worker teams, a novel kind of virtual community is discovered -the federal virtual community (FVC). Unlike conventional centralized virtual communities, FVC adopts a distributed community structure. Ourinet, an open source software community and an FVC, is examined to uncover the strengths of an FVC and what it takes to ensure the quality of project output from members. A conceptual model is derived form the literatures and then modified according to the case analysis. The model infers that clear positioning and advanced communication mechanisms alone, are not sufficient in operating such a virtual community. Effective face-to-face communications and formal contracts from the physical world are still necessary in assuring good output quality

Deep eutectic solvents as smart cosubstrate in alcohol dehydrogenase-catalyzed reductions

Alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) catalyzed reductions in deep eutectic solvents (DESs) may become efficient and sustainable alternatives to afford alcohols. This paper successfully explores the ADH-catalyzed reduction of ketones and aldehydes in a DES composed of choline chloride and 1,4-butanediol, in combination with buffer (Tris-HCl, 20% v/v). 1,4-butanediol (a DES component), acts as a smart cosubstrate for the enzymatic cofactor regeneration, shifting the thermodynamic equilibrium to the product side. By means of the novel DES media, cyclohexanone reduction was optimized to yield maximum productivity with low enzyme amounts (in the range of 10 g L−1 d−1). Notably, with the herein developed reaction media, cinnamaldehyde was reduced to cinnamyl alcohol, an important compound for the fragrance industry, with promising high productivities of ~75 g L−1 d−1.Fil: Chanquia, Santiago Nahuel. Observation of Space-Charge-Limited Transport in InAs Nanowires

Recent theory and experiment have suggested that space-charge-limited transport should be prevalent in high aspect-ratio semiconducting nanowires. We report on InAs nanowires exhibiting this mode of transport and utilize the underlying theory to determine the mobility and effective carrier concentration of individual nanowires, both of which are found to be diameter-dependent. Intentionally induced failure by Joule heating supports the notion of space-charge-limited transport and proposes reduced thermal conductivity due to the nanowires polymorphism
