    Ακολουθώντας τις καθιερωμένες μεταφορές που περιγράφουν τη μετάφρασημε ερμηνευτικούς όρους, ως τη μεταβίβαση και ανάκτηση ενός κατά ταάλλα απροσπέλαστου νοήματος, το άρθρο προτείνει να κοιτάξουμε πέρα απόαυτή τη συμβατική αυτοπαρουσίαση και να επικεντρωθούμε στην υβριδική,πλουραλιστική φύση των μεταφρασμένων κειμένων" προτείνει ακόμη να εστιάσουμετην προσοχή μας στους προκαθορισμένους αυτοαναφορικούς τρόπους μετους οποίους οι μεταφράσεις αναπαριστούν τα κείμενα-πηγές τους. Όμως, εφόσονη περιγραφή της μετάφρασης είναι επίσης μια μορφή μετάφρασης τηςμετάφρασης, πρέπει να συμφιλιωθούμε με την υβριδική φύση των δικών μαςπεριγραφών. Από αυτή την άποψη οι Μεταφραστικές Σπουδές θα μπορούσαννα διδαχθούν από το παράδειγμα της Εθνογραφίας, όπου η επίγνωση των προβλημάτωντης αναπαράστασης της ετερότητας έχει οδηγήσει σε αυτοστοχα-στικές και αυτοκριτικές πρακτικές. Εαν η μετάφραση καθεαυτή δεν είναι ποτέαθώα, το ίδιο ισχύει και για τις περί αυτήν θεωρήσεις μας.     On modelling translation: models, norms and the field of translation

    In this paper I should like to look at translation as a modelling activity, in a double sense. First, translating can be considered as constructing a 'model' of a source text. This allows us to explore to what extent the concepts of model theory might be applicable to translation and what kind of insight, if any, might be derived from such an exercise. Secondly, inasmuch as translating involves textual production in a social and cultural environment, we may inquire into the norms which govern this process and the place and function of discursive models and prototypes in relation to norm

    This dissertation offers a structural and comparative investigation into some of the 'principles of construction' operative in Modernist poetry in the English, French and German language areas in the first decades of the twentieth century. While the general scope of the study is fairly broad, its thematic focus is restricted to questions of poetic structuration and related theoretical issues. The method of analysis and description leans towards Formalist and Structuralist approaches to literature, and incorporates a diachronic as well as a synchronic dimension. Taking as a starting-point, in chapter 1, the synthetic and idealist conception which informs Mallarmé's Symbolist poetic system, the main body of the work then explores, in the eight chapters which follow, the poetic theories and practices of a representative selection of Modernist poets (Apollinaire, Arp, Ball, Heym, Hulme, Jacob, Pound, Reverdy, Trakl). The central argument pursued throughout these chapters rests on the contention that the diverse and often highly paradoxical modes of Modernist poetic writing are to be understood in relation (in opposition) to the basic categories of the Mallarmean aesthetic. The Modernist repudiation, whether implicit or explicit, of the Symbolist norm represents much more than a stylistic reaction. It implies, within the larger series of 'the Modern', a major theoretical reorientation, the construction of a new, non-idealist poetic, and the replacement of a metaphorical by a metonymic conception of poetic writing. The result is a radically altered approach to the function and finality of poetic language, to the status and nature of the poem, to the relation between poem and poet, between the poem and reality, and between the poet and reality. It is this momentum of reconsideration and reassessment which defines the space within which the various modes of Modernism come into being. In practice, the Modernist poem develops a powerful internal dialectic between on the one hand an impulse towards fragmentation and deconstruction, and, on the other, a tendency to objectivation, control, and reconstruction. In the Expressionist branch, where the role of socio-cultural elements is a contributory factor, the first impulse is particularly in evidence, and reveals strong existential overtones. The more 'constructivist' movements (Cubism, Imagism, Vorticism) appear preoccupied with the notion of the poem as a self-sufficient, self-reflexive entity, appealing at the same time to complementary moments of classicism and exploration. The paradoxes inherent in both branches of Modernism are finally radicalized in the Dadaist venture, which presents the point where the Modernist reconsideration of the categories of poetic writing reaches its ultimate extreme, while simultaneously creating the conditions for its transcendence

    Film remakes, the black sheep of translation

    Film remakes have often been neglected by translation studies in favour of other forms of audiovisual translation such as subtitling and dubbing. Yet, as this article will argue, remakes are also a form of cinematic translation. Beginning with a survey of previous, ambivalent approaches to the status of remakes, it proposes that remakes are multimodal, adaptive translations: they translate the many modes of the film being remade and offer a reworking of that source text. The multimodal nature of remakes is explored through a reading of Breathless, Jim McBride's 1983 remake of Jean-Luc Godard's À bout de souffle (1959), which shows how remade films may repeat the narrative of, but differ on multiple levels from, their source films. Due to the collaborative nature of film production, remakes involve multiple agents of translation. As such, remakes offer an expanded understanding of audiovisual translation

    Prognostic value of total tumor volume in patients with colorectal liver metastases:A secondary analysis of the randomized CAIRO5 trial with external cohort validation

    Background:This study aimed to assess the prognostic value of total tumor volume (TTV) for early recurrence (within 6 months) and overall survival (OS) in patients with colorectal liver metastases (CRLM), treated with induction systemic therapy followed by complete local treatment.Methods: Patients with initially unresectable CRLM from the multicenter randomized phase 3 CAIRO5 trial (NCT02162563) who received induction systemic therapy followed by local treatment were included. Baseline TTV and change in TTV as response to systemic therapy were calculated using the CT scan before and the first after systemic treatment, and were assessed for their added prognostic value. The findings were validated in an external cohort of patients treated at a tertiary center. Results:In total, 215 CAIRO5 patients were included. Baseline TTV and absolute change in TTV were significantly associated with early recurrence (P = 0.005 and P = 0.040, respectively) and OS in multivariable analyses (P = 0.024 and P = 0.006, respectively), whereas RECIST1.1 was not prognostic for early recurrence (P = 0.88) and OS (P = 0.35). In the validation cohort (n = 85), baseline TTV and absolute change in TTV remained prognostic for early recurrence (P = 0.041 and P = 0.021, respectively) and OS in multivariable analyses (P &lt; 0.0001 and P = 0.012, respectively), and showed added prognostic value over conventional clinicopathological variables (increase C-statistic, 0.06; 95 % CI, 0.02 to 0.14; P = 0.008). Conclusion: Total tumor volume is strongly prognostic for early recurrence and OS in patients who underwent complete local treatment of initially unresectable CRLM, both in the CAIRO5 trial and the validation cohort. In contrast, RECIST1.1 did not show prognostic value for neither early recurrence nor OS.</p
