Stochastic analysis of spectral broadening by a free turbulent shear layer

    Get PDF
The effect of the time-varying shear layer between a harmonic acoustic source and an observer on the frequency content of the observed sound is considered. Experimental data show that the spectral content of the acoustic signal is considerably broadened upon passing through such a shear layer. Theoretical analysis is presented which shows that such spectral broadening is entirely consistent with amplitude modulation of the acoustic signal by the time-varying shear layer. Thus, no actual frequency shift need be hypothesized to explain the spectral phenomenon. Experimental tests were conducted at 2, 4, and 6 kHz and at free jet flow velocities of 10, 20, and 30 m/s. Analysis of acoustic pressure time histories obtained from these tests confirms the above conclusion, at least for the low Mach numbers considered

Career development that makes others give different views such as appreciation, recognition, appreciation and higher social status in the eyes of society. This is what makes a person want to develop. But they are confronted with the reality that makes it negative. Require success or goals to be achieved and make someone doubt the ability required to fear success. This study aims to determine the effect of fear of success on career development and interaction on achievement motivation and fear of success on career development. This type of research is quantitative with associative research. The population in this study are companies that work at PT. PLN (Persero) Bulukumba Area. The technique of taking samples uses the saturated sample method. The sample in this study was 70 respondents. Data analysis uses simple linear regression analysis and moderation regression analysis by obtaining approved difference values. The results of research with simple linear regression show a fear of positive and significant success in career development. Analysis of moderating variables with the difference in assessment proves achievement motivation is not able to moderate the fear of success in career development. &nbsp

Nonlinear regression of stable random variables

Let (X1,X2) be an α-stable random vector, not necessarily symmetric, with 0<α<2. This article investigates the regression E(X2∣X1=x) for all values of α. We give conditions for the existence of the conditional moment E(|X2|p|X1=x) when p≥α, and we obtain an explicit form of the regression E(X2∣X1=x) as a function of x. Although this regression is, in general, not linear, it can be linear even when the vector (X1,X2) is skewed. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for linearity and characterize the asymptotic behavior of the regression as x→±∞. The behavior of the regression functions is also illustrated graphically

Revised version of a paper by Lowell Hardin describing the selection process, roles, duties, of IARC board members and the organization of IARC boards. A draft version, prepared with the assistance of a small advisory committee of experienced center trustees, was considered and approved at the CGIAR meeting in November 1984. This document remained a standard part of the orientation of new center board members for a long period
