Entrepreneurial learning in family business
This paper draws on a situated learning perspective to examine learning in the context of family business. It draws on the experience of two generations, the founders of a business and their successors from the next generation of the same family. In-depth interviews provide an insight into learning about business as articulated by families who own and manage a business spanning more than one generation. The study relies on their narratives as a way of knowing and as a form of communication. Narrative interpretation throws into relief aspects of learning in the context of a family business. A review of the entrepreneurial learning literature offers theoretical insights but it also highlights the existing research focus on the individual, predominately male, entrepreneur. This paper challenges that assumption and reveals the complex intergenerational dynamics of family and business. It contributes towards a re-conceptualisation of entrepreneurial learning as socially situated, embedded in participation in the social practices of the family and the business

An Analysis of College-aged Women’s Personal Relations
Current communication literature regarding personal relations is limited by its focus on romantic, friendship and friends with benefits relations. To better understand the types of relations college-aged women practice, this study sought to explore (a) the types of cross-sex relations college-aged women practice (b) the reasons they give for practicing the relations and (c) the identities they construct by practicing the relations. Results indicated a myriad of relational types. Types were categorized under three supra-categories and were explored in terms of their description, initiation, maintenance and communication rules, as well as their benefits and drawbacks. Identities associated with the relations were also examined, along with relational fluidity, commitment and intimacy
Determination of efficiencies, loss mechanisms, and performance degradation factors in chopper controlled dc vehical motors. Section 2: The time dependent finite element modeling of the electromagnetic field in electrical machines: Methods and applications
The time dependent solution of the magnetic field is introduced as a method for accounting for the variation, in time, of the machine parameters in predicting and analyzing the performance of the electrical machines. The method of time dependent finite element was used in combination with an also time dependent construction of a grid for the air gap region. The Maxwell stress tensor was used to calculate the airgap torque from the magnetic vector potential distribution. Incremental inductances were defined and calculated as functions of time, depending on eddy currents and saturation. The currents in all the machine circuits were calculated in the time domain based on these inductances, which were continuously updated. The method was applied to a chopper controlled DC series motor used for electric vehicle drive, and to a salient pole sychronous motor with damper bars. Simulation results were compared to experimentally obtained ones
Community detection with spiking neural networks for neuromorphic hardware
We present results related to the performance of an algorithm for community
detection which incorporates event-driven computation. We define a mapping
which takes a graph G to a system of spiking neurons. Using a fully connected
spiking neuron system, with both inhibitory and excitatory synaptic
connections, the firing patterns of neurons within the same community can be
distinguished from firing patterns of neurons in different communities. On a
random graph with 128 vertices and known community structure we show that by
using binary decoding and a Hamming-distance based metric, individual
communities can be identified from spike train similarities. Using bipolar
decoding and finite rate thresholding, we verify that inhibitory connections

Disentangling Access and View Amenities in Access-Restricted Coastal Residential Communities
In coastal communities with uniform flood risk, amenity value is comprised of two components – view and access. Having controlled for view, it is assumed that any residual amenity value represents the benefit derived from accessing the beach for leisure/recreational purposes. However, as properties closer to the beach typically have improved viewsheds, the two amenities are highly correlated, and disentangling view and access is problematical.
